We booked 3d2n package and wish we'd stay longer. The trip exceeded our expectations in every way. The place and the rooms are beautiful, well furnished and sealed off so no jungle creatures could come in. The food was excellent and the staff went extra length to cater for our every need (they considered all guests' dietary needs like vegan or no fish). Gert and his staff know every guest by name and you can really get personalized experience. The owners can also tell you many interesting facts about Borneo and the animals themselves. During the tours we saw elephants, crocodilles, proboscis monkeys, wild boars etc.etc. it was definitely the highlight of our vacation, we would choose this place again and we hope we can come back some day :) thank you!!!
Gert was wonderful and took good care of us. Food was great, he took great care to ensure I always had a spicy accompaniment. Don't let the steps up scare you, a bit daunting in the dark with a torch but you'll need to burn off the calories somehow! Needless to say the boat rides were terrific, we were very lucky and saw every 'major attraction' among the beautiful creatures of Sandakan - pygmy elephants (one with a baby), orangutans from a distance (both with babies!), countless proboscis monkeys, silver leaf ones and numerous macaques, both long and short tailed varieties....even a Borneo Gibbon from afar! My highlight was a rhinoceros hornbill since I'm a birder, we also saw a black hornbill, oriental darters and numerous eagles and Kingfishers. The Kinabatangan river is a place so replete with nature and bountiful things...my only hope is that it stays that way.…
Beautiful lodge done to a really high standard. The owner is absolutely lovely and spent loads of time with us educating us about the palm oil plantations. There are NO LEECHES here!!! It is set away from the river where it is drier so there are absolutely no leeches! For anyone worried about staying in the jungle - please stay here! Absolutely no creepy crawlies or leeches in sight! If you are very lucky you might spot their resident orangutan who pops by about once a week or so.
We did 3D2N and it was just what we needed at the end of our trip to Borneo. we arrived to a delicious lunch, had time to freshen up in our beautiful rooms then off we went on a river cruise, and we spotted a crocodile, hornbills, macaques, proboscis monkeys and an orangutan. That was just the beginning, it was wonderful . All meals were generous and delicious, all tours were thoughtful and thorough. Jason has great attention to detail and a wealth of knowledge. The stairs up to the resort aren't that bad. A truly wonderful experience!
We had a truly fantastic 3 days at the Last Frontier. We were with our 2 children aged 9 and 12 and there was no problem us all sharing a room - plenty of space. We all agreed that the river cruise was the highlight of our entire holiday. Jason, Gert and all the team were very friendly and professional, the food was truly excellent, the locaton is fantastic all in all brilliant! The children didn't mention there being no TV once. Don't be put off by the reviews that mention all the steps, they are not that bad!
