Travelers' Choice
Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island located three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia along the Straits of Malacca. This piece of paradise has been 2 million years in the making, and here you will find one of the world's premier resorts nestling in the shade of forest giants as old as the land. You will find no other resorts - just secluded bays curled around pristine beaches, evening skies woven with colour, and a deep sense of serenity reserved exclusively for our guests. A combination of luxury, natural beauty and age-old wilderness woven together to produce an environment where peace and magically memorable moments are the currency. Of the island's 300 acres, only a fraction has been developed to house the Resort and its eight Estates. Wooden buildings blend seamlessly into the forest as if nature had been the architect dictating how walls curve around foliage, and roofs open up to allow trees to continue on their journey to the sky. Nature is respected here, almost revered, and it rewards visitors in ways that simply need to be experienced.

My husband and I chose to have our honeymoon at Pangkor Laut Resort two days after our wedding, and it was the best trip of our lives so far. We had a good first impression of the resort even before we reached the resort. We had arranged in advance for land transfer from Ipoh airport to Marina Island Pangkor, and we thought to have the driver pick us up at 10am even though our flight landed at 8.30am (just in case we faced delays with our flight or at immigration) but we were surprised when he was already waiting for us when we landed at 8.30am. After a 1.5h road trip from the airport to the office, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and towel, and was then escorted to PLR on a speedboat with one other couple (which made us feel special, haha). Upon arrival at the resort, we were again welcomed with a little refreshment and had a staff attend to us immediately, helping us to plan our itinerary for the rest of the week that we were staying there. As we were still early and the rooms were not ready, we had lunch at the Feast Village and then rested in the library, which was very cosy with a good selection of books (only downside was there were so many house lizards, though I am not sure if anything could be done to prevent them from coming). Our room at the Garden Villa was wide and spacious, and we received a congratulatory drink from the resort to celebrate our wedding as well. (It was a nice gesture, but nothing could compare to the attentiveness of the different staff we met over the week, who, upon noticing the henna stains on our hands, congratulated us warmly in person). We also loved that the Garden Villa was so near to the Feast Village and Uncle Lim's Kitchen, which we kept going back to for breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as the food options across the two kitchens were varied and more importantly, delicious. The service at the kitchens were also amazing - Chef Liza was so friendly and approachable that she made us feel at home, and Masum and Nadim went out of their way to make each dining experience feel special for us (such as seating us at places where we would have unobstructed views of the beach, and offering to take photos of us without us even thinking of it). Other experiences we had at the resort were going for the jungle walk, swimming at Emerald Bay and having lunch at Chapman's Bar, and yoga. However, our favourite activity on the resort was going for the spa experience. It was so refreshing and phenomenal, and truly, no other spa can beat PLR's spa. We were pampered from head to toe, and the different bath experiences set the spa apart from other spas out there. The staff were also so knowledgeable and generous with sharing what they know, that both my husband and I learnt so much about the natural ingredients used in our sessions. Definitely made the experience more meaningful and personal for us, and after a hectic wedding weekend, the spa made us feel well rested and rejuvenated. We also got a free room upgrade to the Spa Villa on our last two nights, as a burst water pipe affected our water supply to the Garden Villa. The Spa Villa was also wide and spacious, with a marvellous view of the sea. However, we had to take the shuttle to get around the resort especially during meal times, which was a slight hassle for us as we had gotten used to the proximity of our favourite restaurants from our initial villa. In addition, the Spa Village was pretty dark after sundown, so walking from the shuttle stop to the villas when no other guests were around felt a little eerie. I wonder if adding more lights around the Spa Village would improve the experience? Nonetheless, we had a really fantastic time at PLR. We concluded our trip with another speedboat ride back to Marina Island Pangkor, but this time, with no other guests on board (definitely felt special here). We sorely miss PLR and the exceptional hospitality there, and we look forward to returning and meeting everyone again in the near future. Thanks for the wonderful memories, PLR! p.s. The resort looks better in person than in the website photos :')

I just wanted to say that it is so nice to be able to come back to our favourite holiday destination and be greeted by many of your team who we have not seen for 3 years. We stayed in the Spa villas, which are truly beautiful. They’re very spacious and very well equipped. They have great views We enjoyed the walk every morning through the Spa Village to go to breakfast. I would like you to please pass on our heartfelt gratitude to all your team for their kindness during our stay. Executive Chef Danny , again Danny has proved that he is an amazing, humble chef with super kindness to all the guests and specially his team. Thank you thank you thank you for everything. Roti Channi team for the lovely food and my cooking class. Morgan , always happy and helpful. Nice to see that he’s looking well after his weigh loss !!! Mr Vijay , good to see him again. Sam Spa , so nice to see her again and her smiling face and great attitude. Ria spa treatment & Hariyati & Puspa They are the best therapists. Thank you. Darwin F&B manager. Great to see such a determined, happy and loyal person move up the ranks at PLR. Well done. Mr Ong superman in daytime and Batman at night. !!!! A true gentleman, thank you for your lovely gesture and taking time out to listen to us. Mr Segar. So nice to see you after such a long time. Thank you for everything. Dr Jay Saab. I would like to thank him for all his viral health advice he gave me and assisted me with my diet whilst there. Also a great and talented Yoga instructor, thank you for the classes !!!! Chef Ali. At fisherman’s, amazing meal you prepared for my wife’s birthday meal there. Thank you thank you thank you to Parbin coffee man Santosh Mirzan Dewa Tohid @emerald bay This is just to name a few who also side the rest of your team made our stay really memorable I just wanted to kindly make a few suggestions. Maybe to discuss with your team. The yoga classes are fully booked most days, and it is quite tight there. I suggest having a discussion and maybe using the old Beautiful Uncle Lim’s restaurant. There is more room and a great breeze that passes in the mornings. More people could also attend The new Uncle Lims , it’s a very beautiful restaurant, thank you to all the staff there but it would be nice to have the old red lights there that make it look a little bit more like the old one and maybe some authentic signage. The food was amazing everywhere, the standard and quality in my view is as good as or if not better. Then we came in 2019. Again, I truly look forward to being able to come back to this special place in the near future, thank you to everybody for making it so special.

Stayed for 2 nights on the residents package. 1) On arrival at the Marina. Was charged 25RM per 12 hours parking. No signs, nor for warning on the website. Paid a total of 75RM for parking. For Malaysia this is super high. Clearly the Resort parking is taking advantage here? 2) On entering the check in lounge in Marina. The lady did not welcome me nor offer me a seat. She said I have to pay 500RM extra for my daughter as should would be 12 in two weeks time. The website clearly states 11 and under will pay a 200RM supplement. After standing my ground the lady conceded. She across to me as rude. 3) At the resort, someone in the breakfast restaurant spoke to my wife rude manner. When she was simply asking in her gentle manner the resort restaurants. 4. We booked a Beach Villa. We were given one of the best beach villa they had. 5. The beach villa is extremely dated inside. 6. There is no flexible shower and no bidet hose. Its not possible to wash your body properly as no hose. 7. The taps in the bathroom are old fashioned. 8. The room does not become cool. 9. The flush in the toilet broke. 10. There is an extremely steep ride to the swimming beach in a converted VAN. Its not possible to walk there due to the steep incline. 11. 1 waiter at the breakfast place was rude to me for both breakfasts. He kept saying my family of 3 could not sit on a table for 4! 12. Horn bills came to the Beach villa and ate from my hands. This was an amazing experience. 13. On checkout the sofa in the reception smelt so bad from sweat of other guests. It was so bad I had to move. 14. The food quality at the resort was really good. 15. Seeing the fruit bats was amazing. 16. The Qiblah is hidden in the wardrobe. Why would they hide the Qiblah? 17. Very beautiful resort. Would love to go back one day.

I had the Hillview Villa. Was there 3 days 2 nights. The elevator didn’t work for 2 full days & nights so you can imagine how many steps I have to take to go back and forth from the villa to the reception, breakfast lunch, dinner and the beach and activities. I am 61 to make it worse. No one seems to be doing anything about the breakdown. As for the room (No. 345), I didn’t get any views of the sea due to thick plantation and the outdoor bathtub was dirty with leaves. Had stayed at other places with rates more than RM1k a night but never faced this. Should improve if they want customers to return or recommend.

Dear NoritaMohdNoh Thank you for taking your time to write a review about your stay in Pangkor Laut Resort. I am sad to learnt that you did not enjoyed your stay due to the lift incident, this incident should not be happening and I would like to sincere apology that it happened during your stay. Nevertheless, the issue has been rectified and the lift is running smoothly now. However, thank you for mentioning the view of room 345. I informed my grounds team to do some trimming over that balcony, so that it won't happen for the future guest. Once again, thank you for staying with us and sharing your feedback. I hope you may return again in the future and have a relaxing stay. Sincerely Ong Hend Ley Resident Manager

My husband caught very bad salmonella poisoning on our 5th day there, so our review is probably somewhat coloured by that experience.. but even so, it’s not 5 star… I would probably avoid staying there if pregnant or clinically vulnerable. We don’t know exactly what caused it - our doctor back home says it’s likely to be the water. Their water is provided in reusable glass bottles, which we initially thought was good from an eco point of view - but now in hindsight I wonder if the water is properly treated (it isn’t mineral water) and if the bottles sterilised well enough? Or it could have come from the breakfast buffet which had flies around the food, bread, cakes, jams, salad and cooked meats. They have a doctor on site who you have to pay for and he was helpful. Thank goodness as my husband was so ill he was passing out. That aside, the good things were: - We stayed in a Spa villa, and this was lovely and quiet. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom large with plenty storage (although no fan in bathroom so it wasn’t comfortable) It is a bit of a walk (1 -1.5 miles or so) to get to the main areas for breakfast / lunch, but good exercise if you can deal with the heat! - The Spa village is wonderful and the staff there at the spa and the pool area are extremely helpful, proactive and kind. Lots of shady areas to keep out of the sun. Lamu bar has a very small range of cold healthy salads which are fine if you are not hungry. - The treatments in the Spa were fantastic. Truly the best I have had. The highlight was a session with the Chinese doctor there who did cupping and a massage, and it was so helpful for my sore back. She gave advice on diet and acupressure points too. - Overall the staff in the restaurants are lovely. Too many people to mention by name. We really appreciated the kind service by all. - Good food and cute hornbills at the Royal bay bar (although I worry now about sanitising the tables after the birds have gone on them!) - Brilliant nature walk with guide through the jungle - Nice warm dip in the sea at Emerald bay, with stunning views - The gym is good with decent equipment. Where PL falls down is… Eating and drinking is the biggest area of disappointment - There are actually no real options for pre or post dinner drinks - there is one tiny bar with only about 3 seats which is more an overflow area for Uncle Lims, not a nice space to relax. I suppose you could go to Chapmans at Emerald bay, but that’s a hassle for every evening as a bit of long wait for the shuttle bus after etc - It would be great if they opened the Royal bay bar for longer, it closes early. - Dining options were limited for the length of stay we stayed (6 nights): - Uncle Lims is good quality with lovely service - but a limited menu if you want to eat more than twice there - Fisherman’s Cove is mostly fish (but very nice food and service) with very small range of starters - Feast village is average / basic - eg curries and noodles or a basic pasta. Quality not great - eg the chicken curry had lots of small bones and all of the “hot” food was lukewarm / cool so we didn’t enjoy it. The puddings however were wonderful! - The breakfast buffet was average vs other 5 star places we’ve stayed in Asia (although good range of breads and fresh pancakes). Couldn’t have jam though on them due to flies sitting on the open jam pots 2. Orientation / ease - No map, you have to take a picture on your phone or use WiFi QR code. - There is no shop = no opportunity to buy anything apart from souvenirs. Eg no toiletries, sun lotion, headache pills, crisps / snacks / soft drinks etc. - There is no room service menu provided in paper or online even - So you have to call reception to find out if you can get anything, and order from a very limited choice of bento boxes if you have to stay in your villa / when ill.

Dear gillleighhayes First of all, thank you for taking your time to complete this review about your stay in Pangkor Laut Resort. I am sad to learnt that you had a mixed felling about your experience with us, However, I would like to extend my sincere apology to you and your husband. Nevertheless, in Pangkor Laut Resort we do have proper control towards food safety and food hygiene. Quarterly, we do have 3rd party company to conduct water treatment in various areas around the island and the result has shown negative issue with our water. In the kitchen, we also follow the standard procedure of food safety like temperature check, routine cleaning and so on. Moreover, we did not received any other case of food bone illness in the same period of time. Having said, I had shared your feedbacks to my culinary team as well and to look into areas of improvement. We will do our best to adjust the menu and so on. On the positive side, I would like to thank you for mentioning the Chinese doctor, the restaurant staff and also the Naturalist. I had also shared your compliments to the team and it was well received by them. Once again, thank you for the review and I hope your husband has a speedy recovery. This place really is a true island paradise. We stayed in a Spa Villa in the Spa area, the area of the resort where children under 16 are not permitted. We arrived during a period of 2 public holidays so there were quite a lot of children in the other areas of the resort so we were pleased to be in the Spa area. The room was BIG and the bathroom HUGE. The shower has so much water pressure it was like standing under a waterfall. The aircon is brilliant so no need to worry about overheating. The staff were all so very courteous, helpful and friendly that it’s impossible to say a bad word about any of them. The delightful barman at the bar in the spa area even ran over to another bar (a good 10 min walk) to get us drinks he didn’t usually serve at his bar. The service here really is very very impressive. The hotel manager, Cegar, clearly has good customer service at the top of his list of priorities and he’s very much succeeded. He even arranged for the five of us to have dinner on the beach at Emerald Bay - which is a beautiful location by day and a gorgeous spot for dinner by torchlight. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The hotel puts in huge efforts to manage the plastic pollution that blows its way across the sea from the mainland and they have an army of cleaners and gardeners out every morning to clear what has washed up overnight so the beaches are beautiful for the guests. We are in every restaurant and enjoyed the food. The Fisherman’s Cove restaurant was our favourite - excellent ‘catches of the day’ and a beautiful Wagu fillet. Coming from the U.K., we found the food and drinks to be very reasonably priced. For example, all the dishes served at the restaurant/bar on Emerald Bay were 60myr - about £12. The drinks were similarly well priced, especially during the happy hours at the bars when there is a BOGOF offer. If you like your spa treatments, this really is the place to come. The Spa area is amazing. When we were here we purchased their voucher offer that gave us 15 vouchers for the price of 10. A great deal that cost about £560 but for that price we had 3 hr treatments for 2 people on 3 days. Excellent value. This hotel really is a gem and we are already trying to find reasons to come back

We had issues initially when we started our journey but once we reached the resort, I should say we were treated like royalties! Service was top notch from everyone, from management right down to every single person who catered to us from breakfast to dinner and all in between! Stayed 3 nights and I should say it was the best 3 nights I have had in a long time! Highly recommend and will definitely venture again.

I can’t recommend Pangkor Laut more - it is the most beautiful and amazing hidden gem in Malaysia and a MUST visit! My family and I traveled here, and I got engaged to my fiancé while on the island!!! Relaxing and filled with romance, this resort is the height of luxury in the heart of the jungle. This is my parents’ fourth time on Pangkor Laut island and we all absolutely love the experience every time. We will come back for years to come. There are so many beautiful memories here! This is truly a luxury experience with everything you could ask for. You don’t have to go to the Maldives and pay an exorbitant price for heaven - come to Malaysia! The staff are all incredibly kind, professional, & go above and beyond. From the careful attention to detail, to the beautiful flora and fauna all over the island (we saw fruit bats, macaque monkeys, monitor lizards, crabs, and more), to the catered meals by expert chefs, an absolutely incredible and extensive breakfast buffet (they make you fresh juice with any ingredients you’d like!), to the must-experience spa village with a one of a kind, beautiful 5-part bathhouse (my favorite part! So unique and luxurious!), this resort is a must-visit. There are several kinds of rooms you can choose from, from hill villas to sea villas to beach villas & even private mansions. The resort even caters classes for you such as complimentary yoga, nature walks, qi gong, & more. Don’t miss out on this experience, book now! It’s our favorite place on earth. I wish I could gate keep this so we could keep it to ourselves, but we just love them so much that we want to support them! Special thanks to the entire team for making such a momentous occasion even more special - Mr. Ong and Dyan for cultivating the most amazing experience and helping to plan this perfect engagement with my fiancé and parents from start to finish. They are so warm, professional, thoughtful, and helpful! Went above and beyond to ensure this was a memorable and beautiful engagement. What an amazing team. We are so grateful. - Prabin at uncle lim’s for his kind and professional service - Vije (manager) thank you so much for helping us with a special dinner booking & for going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and exceptional - Al Amin and Mizan - while we had breakfast and lunch each day, they were extremely helpful and kind. Chef Nizam also went out of his way to help us and made an extremely excellent curry lunch - Mogan - Israfil - Chapman’s bar - Huge thanks to Tohid for helping with our engagement dinner and for the exceptional and kind service, also chef Joey for an extravagant and beautiful meal. - Segar - manager for all his courteous assistance - Hasan - Fisherman’s Restaurant - Robin - thank you for being so thoughtful and remembering our family from the last visit 7 years ago! J - yoga instructor, that was the hardest yoga class of my life (despite practicing for 10+ years) and I loved it! Still beginner friendly if you’ve never practiced before but he definitely adjusts if you need a challenge. As you can see, a huge part of what makes the experience at Pangkor Laut so exceptional is the staff. We are so grateful and can’t wait to be back!

Such a paradise. Everything, absolutely everything was perfect. Started with very warm reception at Marina jetty till the last min of our check out. We never seen such friendly and always smiling persona. Everyday we were greeted with how are you questions from the management and other stuff. Choice of food for breakfast and dinners option was incredible. Happy hour at sunset bar with 50% discount was out favorite place ;) the whole island belongs to the Resort and there is absolutely gorgeous beach at another side of the island, it was almost empty in mornings. We saw a few monkeys, wild bore, varnas and eagles. There is no snorkeling place but it’s a perfect relaxing place. If you travel without kids, go to spa area one day and enjoy the quite and beautiful pool area. But be aware that everything becomes quite around 2200-2230 but I guess it’s normal for Malaysia in general. Can’t wait to come back one day!!
