This is a lovely hotel on the edge of the sea. It was quiet as it was still off peak. Our room was lovely and had mosquito nets. The staff were a delight, helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. We indulged and had lobster. There was Internet. Watching the sunset was memorable. The pool was idyllic and a great... More

From the balcony of my bungalow I could sit and watch the ocean. This is a VERY nice place to stay. Very clean and comfortable; great food; wine too. The snorkeling was very good and I enjoyed the ride with the two local guys from the village and their small outrigger sailboat. The hotel will arrange everything. If you are... More

It's architecturally beautiful, and the bungalows are well done. The sea had too many jellyfishes for us to venture in, but the setting is beautiful. The pool was peaceful if not in tiptop condition. We would have had a wonderful time. There were, however, two things that were irritating that very nearly spoiled the whole experience. One is the incessant... More

We stayed overnight at this hotel at the end of an eleven day tour of Madagascar by road from Antananarivo. It was unfortunate that we couldn't have spent longer at the hotel which is situated on the Mozambique Channel to recover from a what was a long and sometimes arduous journey down route 7. Never the less we had time... More

Very rough road to get there but you have soon forgotten this once you have settled in. Staff very friendly and sprayed for mosquitos at night and lit a coil. Lunch at the pool bar was fine with a great view. Breakfast offered us a great plate of fresh tropical fruit and delicious pastries. Didn't swim in the sea as... More

We arrived after a long drive from Manja. Patrick greeted us and introduced us to the hotel. Our accommodation was a very nice bungalow arranged by Madagascar Touring. It is a beach side resort that is very quiet. Food in the restaurant was very good.

It's a hotel with bungalows scattered in a well kept park along the beach. The bungalows are not big but very nice and comfortable. A drawback is the absence of glass or mosquito net at the windows, you cannot open the blinds and it is dark also by day (you need the electric light at noon) and little air passes... More

We stayed at Les Dunes at the end of our two week road trip on the RN7, and found it a lovely relaxing place to stay. The staff were very friendly. One of the managers here spoke English, in other places in Madagascar we had had to rely on my fairly-basic French. We loved our villa with our veranda overlooking... More

We stayed at Les Dunes on the last week of a month-long trip in Madagascar. It was by far the best quality hotel we experienced in Madagascar. Great rooms (we stayed in a villa), very nice staff, very good food, and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful.. they have been in Madagascar for a long time and can tell... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Les Dunes d'Ifaty is boutique hotel, build from local materials, located 27 kilometres north of the city of Tulear, next to the "Mangily" fishing village and is built over an area of 6 hectares amidst a flora of tropical and other typical indigenous plants from this dry region of the south of Madagascar. The main building is designed following a wide-open-style structure, the roofing being supported by large pillars, with a seven metre high tree in the centre. In the main building are located the reception, the lounge, the main bar, the main restaurant and the kitchen. All the rooms are on both sides of the main building. The villa rooms are facing the sea, while the superior and standard rooms are in a tropical garden. They are not far from the swimming pool which is next to the beach. There is a beach bar where one can find drinks and food which is directly on the beach. The hotel is not far from the spiny forest(UNESCO registered), which is worth a visit and where one can see baobab(Reniala)trees and all the endemic plants of the south of Madagascar. Bird watchers will be able to find quite a few rare birds endemic to this southern part. Many different type of reptiles and animals can also be seen and the guides who speek many foreign languages will be delited to tell you more about them. ... more   less
