Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for 2 nights on our trip across the southern parks (Amboseli, Tsavo West, Tsavo East) with our driver/guide. And this was our favourite camp, not just in Kenya but also compared to previous wildlife trips to Tanzania and South Africa.
The setting is fabulous, with hippos (easily audible from the tents), crocs, numerous birds, vervet monkeys, monitor lizards and bushbabies easily spotted around the lake. The walking (evidence of a lion-hippo struggle) and night safaris (my first genet cat) are a welcome twist. The 4-course lunch was quite indulgent and the candlelit dinners (service a tad slow though) were a great end to each day. And Kilimanjaro welcomes your mornings if in luck.
It's definitely worth venturing to Voyager Ziwani on the Nairobi to Mombasa run ... and make sure you have an afternoon to take in the lush camp surroundings.

Amazing place to stay!
Right next to the Ziwani gate of Tsavo West, this tented camp is brilliant.
The tents are nice and most overlook the watering hole. The shower isn't the most powerful and hot water is only available after 6pm but when it was on, it was hot.
The water is full of hippos and crocodiles!
Lunch and dinner are 4 course, Al a carte, followed by tea or coffee and it was delicious!
In the background you have Kilimamjaro which you may see on a clear day.
The camp offer nature walks and evening game drives, both lasting around 1 hour.
The nature walk goes around the watering hole, we followed animal foot prints and learnt about different types of animal poo!
In the evening a masai guide can join you and your regular driver on a night drive around the local area. We saw lots of elephants, jackals, mongoose, snakes, antelope.

Dear Suzie, We are delighted that you and your group enjoyed your stay with us. It is our primary goal, and meeting your expectation improves our self-esteem. As you said, Ziwani is a gem in the region. We have seasoned this by coming up with a squeezed program that makes you experience the wild at its best in a different way. Hippos and Crocs make you forget the evening TV programs and movies as you have dinner. We have noted with a big concern that the shower wasn't luxurious for you. We are looking unto that. I can confidently ask you to look forward to a beautiful shower on your next visit. We wish you all the best on the remainder of your holiday and look forward to hosting you many other times you visit the country. With Kind Regards, The Voyager Ziwani Team.

The camp is a special experience. It lies on the banks of a swollen river and the resulting lake is home to dozens of hippos and crocodiles. It's a fantastic experience to dine on the lakeside and listen to the hippos grunting or have a drink on the pond's platform, watch the crocodiles sunbathing, the birds or the hippos emerging from the water.
The tents are well-equipped and comfortable, the bed is huge and the bathroom is clean. Power is always on, no problem charging your phone, tablet or camera. Due to the low number of guests due to Covid, the meal was not a buffet, but a choice of two menus served at a table set up on the lakeside. The menu was excellent.
The staff were nice and friendly, but it was a serious mistake to be misinformed us about the safety of the camp and dangerousness of the wild animals in the near of us. When we questioned, they were told at the briefing, that the camp is safe at night and it's safe to move around. We didn't move luckily because when I woke up at night, two huge hippos were grazing between our tents. If one of the kids had gone out at night, it's hard to imagine the trouble it would have caused. The three stars for service is justified by this serious fault, because otherwise the service was friendly and of impeccable quality. Be careful with the hippos.
The entrance of the Tsavo West National Park is approx. 200 metres from the lodge.

Dear Guest, Thanks for your visit to our camp. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. You have raised a major issue on security. Voyager Safari camp is in the wilderness and Guests are always advised about the basic security that one must take. You are correct that one should not come out of the Tents at Night without being with a Security Guard, this is something we explain to all Guests and ensure we are at hand to assist and I am disturbed it was not explained to you. This matter is receiving my personal attention and I will certainly revert to explain how we have handled it. With Kind Regards,

Excellent location around a small watering hole that has hippos and Nile crocodiles with well placed viewing spots. The lodge is in a private conservancy near Tsavo national park.
Comfortable and spacious tents with hot water and quality of the accommodation was good.
Afternoon guided walk in the bush was fun as was the night safari and saw oryx, zebra, antelopes and bat eared foxes but no lions as it was last drizzling and it seems the big cats don’t like getting wet as much as the domestic ones....Game is generally limited.
Service in the restaurant was slow and disorganised. Buffet selection (lunch, dinner and breakfast) was limited and food average. No a la carte options.
Reception is a small hut with nowhere to sit and felt very unwelcoming as we were left standing around in the sun whilst we were checked in.

There are a few things I must complement after this 2 night stay at Ziwani Lodge. We went on 2 nature walks (1 hr in the morning and 1 hr in the late afternoon) accompanied by a guide and an officer for protection. It was stunning to see the animals so close. The accomodation has all you need and leaving the windows of the tent open gave us a cool breeze. The food topped my expectations. Lunch and dinner 4 courses with a choice and coffee or tea. Absolutely delicious and with a lot of variations. Even the small Gift shop had some nice souvenirs. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful. On the 2nd morning we saw the Hippos and the Crocodiles leave the water and it was a spectacular side. We will definitely come back to this great place.

When arriving at the lodge we were greeted by Mr Gichira, an absolutely gem of a person who offered us a lovely welcome and showed us around our room, and told us about the Lodge.
The lodge offers a bush walk which we thoroughly enjoyed. The bush walk was led by an amazing gentleman called Salim, who taught us a lot about the hippos and crocodiles.
We had gone for my husband's 40th Birthday and they even decorated his bed and gave us a lovely cake.
Food was flawless and service was a 100 percent amazing! Highly recommended!!

Voyager Ziwani Camp is located on a private Conservancy outside the gates of Tsavo West National Park.
The reception office is primitive and small but it is only here you get wi-fi.
We go to a tent No 10 which is smallish but the bed is big with a mosquito net. There is a desk, a chair and a rickety table with a small stool. Oh, there are tiles on the floor.
The bathroom has a wash basin, separate toilet and separate shower with an electric lamp inside the stall(sic ) which does not seem very safe.
In the evening it turns out the tents are rather too close to each other as the voices carry loud from the neighbouring ones.
Food is at most average, to say the least and the service slow. The staff cooking breakfast is not very polite either.
What we liked it was the dam with hippos and crocodiles and the real asset is the view of Mt Kilimanjaro. And that is about it!

accommodation is in tents, near the lake with crocodiles and hippos. we were assured that all tourists are safe. It is quiet and good place to relax. The chef deserves all the appreciation because we had the impression that we are at the most expensive restaurant. Everything was delicious and looked magnificent!

This camp was incredible. The accommodations were perfect and the staff very friendly and helpful. The tents are spacious, the premises clean and quiet and there is an incredible lake on site with hippos and hundreds of birds nesting on an island in the middle of the lake.
Our waiter Mark was perfect! The last night of our stay, he arranged a romantic dinner on the deck for my husband and me. It was great.
We also had a walk in the bush around the camp with ranger Salim. He was very knowledgeable about the animals and their behaviour. We learned a lot and had a great time observing hippos, crocs, and even elephants during our 2h walk.
We recommend this camp, it was great.

We had a very nice stay in this camp. Staff were kind and attentive, bringing my wife hot water and tea when she fell ill. The tent was roomy and attractive, and I loved the location on a lake. My afternoon bush safari with Joseph was great; he was a wealth of information, and I saw crocodiles, hippos, troops of elephants and baboons, and some lovely birds. The food, while not outstanding, was surprisingly good.
While I do not hesitate to recommend this place, there are two things that made our stay less than perfect. First, the service, while well-intended, was disorganized at times. Second, the lodging is set on a well manicured lawn, a choice that feels jarring in the midst of a drought-stricken region.
Those two minor quibbles aside, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
