Travelers' Choice
Located in the heart of the private Taita Hills Sanctuary, bordering Tsavo West National Park in south-eastern Kenya, Salt Lick Safari Lodge is a truly unique concept consisting of 96 rooms elevated on stilts, each overlooking a waterhole and linked by suspended walkways. At night, the waterholes are floodlit ensuring that you enjoy an uninterrupted view of the numerous animals arriving to quench their thirst. The elevated restaurant, and the bar a level higher, also offer stunning views of the sanctuary and are the ideal vantage points to view game. The lodge has its own fleet of well-equipped safari vehicles with excellent guides. The climate is very moderate with temperatures averaging between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius all year round. There are sporadic rains in March, April, November and December. Due to the unique layout of the lodge, it is not suitable for children below 8 years. Salt Lick Safari Lodge is 400 km from Nairobi and 200 km from Mombasa. The lodge is a one-hour flight from Nairobi or 30 minutes from Mombasa by private charter which lands at the Lodge's own airstrip. The Sanctuary is a 3-hour drive from Mombasa and a 6-hour drive from Nairobi on tarmac roads. So, if you intend to make the most out of your African safari holidays, Salt Lick Safari Lodge is the right place to be. No matter if you plan to head-over to Nairobi or Mombasa, the Lodge turns out to be a perfect check-in option.

A huge thank you to the Salt Lick and the Taita Hills fraternity: from the drivers (informative game drives), to the reception guys (super helpful), to the chefs and wait staff (every meal is a superb experience and the deserts amazing), the pool attendant and security guards (who kept the kids entertained with ourdoor games) and even room service folk 💕. Looking forward to upcoming updates on the place 👌🏼.

No need to go on safari. All the animals come directly to the hotel to drink and rest. We had a fantastic view from different points of the hotel. Rooms are nice and clean. Samson at the bar was our favourite. Food is really good and all the staff bend over backwards to ensure that we have a good stay The only thing I would change would be the chairs on the outside terrace of the bar. They are really not comfy. But that's really my only complain. We reserved the bush dinner at sunset and it was the most memorable moment of our vacation. Worth every dollar.

Dear Guest, Greetings from Salt Lick Safari Lodge, Thank you for visiting and staying at Salt Lick Safari Lodge an excellent destination for travellers that enjoy spending time with nature. Thank you for enjoying our culinary delights and we are grateful that this surpassed your expectations and made your stay memorable. We are happy to note that you enjoyed your stay at the iconic and unique lodge raised on stilts. We are delighted that we created a lasting memory during the sunset bush dinner! These are very magical experiences you carry home and our team, especially Samson, will be so happy to ready about your positive feedback. We are proud to have the special Waterhole at the lodge which is constructed and constantly supplied through a water borehole that is drenched with a constant supply of running water to ensure the wildlife's well-being is enhanced and protected. These enhance the guest experience at the lodge as it brings our guests up close to observe mega herbivores looking to quench their thirst. The experience is more rewarding during dry spells/seasons as large groups of elephants, buffaloes, zebras and various antelopes (sometimes trailed by big cats) come for scarce water which is provided for by a well-positioned water hole supplied by a borehole dedicated for wildlife. We look forward to welcoming you back to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and staying at Salt Lick Safari Lodge where magic never ends! Until then, stay safe! Kind regards, Joshua Awilli |Sales Account Manager Salt Lick Safari Lodge

Our trip started off on the wrong footing but Korbin Shimba, the amazing driver who came to pick us from the train station made all the difference. The staff are very friendly, helpful and ready to serve with such beautiful smiles on their faces. The food is alright and the breakfast was really the highlight of the meals. The staff at both Saltlick and Taita Hills were the other highlight. Patrick who mingled with the guests to find out about our experience, John, with the easy smile, Harrison, Paul and Josiah who were always keen to sense our needs and move in to make us comfortable. As well as the housekeeping staff that said hello along the corridors. The friendly staff made our stay worthwhile. The only downside was that the mealtimes felt a little crowded. Maybe the hotel can look into this. Last but not least, the game drives are something out of this world. The wild animals are a variety as well as the birds. Oh, lest I forget, the sunrises and sunsets over the Tsavo are truly special and different.
