I stayed at the Voi Wildlife lodge in August 2021 admittedly in the middle (?) of the Covid pandemic. I took the train from Nairobi to Voi where I was met by Jacob and the lodge van. The lodge itself was mostly deserted, and I was one of only a handful of guests during my stay. I stayed in the Manyatta Tented Camp side and was the only guest there for 2 nights. Due to the low guest count, the bar and restaurant were understandably closed at Manyatta meaning I had to hoof it to the Lodge side for meals, but hey, I got my steps in. The Manyatta bar/restaurant area is elevated above the swimming pool, and provides a wonderful view of game as they head to the watering hole in front of the Lodge. Baboons, monkeys, zebra, elephants, giraffe, waterbucks, gazelle and buffalo were all viewed with ease from a comfy elevated seat. If you want up-close and personal, the Lodge bar is only a few meters from the water hole. I sat for several hours by myself watching the animals take their water. No one talking, playing music or getting the way of my enjoyment of these magnificent animals. Simon, the bartender, kept me supplied with drinks and a dish of nuts to nibble on before dinner. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. All addressed me by my name since I was just about the only guest, and the lone muzungu at the lodge, so I was easily identifiable. All staff wore masks because of covid and you couldn't walk 20 steps without there being hand sanitizer and hand washing stations available. The game drive in the park with Jacob was great and we were able to view quite a few animals. Actually, the Lodge bar provides equally good or better viewing, with the exception of the lions we viewed on the drive. I was also able to visit the Sheldrick regeneration unit for orphaned elephants just inside the park entrance. This must be arranged prior, through the DSWT and cannot be arranged through the lodge. Very much worth it. The tent accommodations were perfect. A comfy bed, toilet, shower and my own private pool on my deck (all tents come with this feature) with a view into the national park. Housekeeping was efficient making my room up daily and keeping me topped up with water. The meal choices were limited because of low occupancy. I was able to take advantage of the lunch buffet on my first day and it was sumptuous with local fare as well as international cuisine for the less adventurous. Chef Moses and manager Hilary, both provided a wonderful experience for me. I'd like to see nyama choma and ndengu on the menu in the future. Four, count them, four swimming pools at the lodge provide relief from the afternoon's heat (33c). I saw at least one swim-up bar which would be inviting. And, as I said, each tent on the Manyatta side has its own small pool for dipping, and a larger community pool at the bar. My experience was not the norm, since the Lodge was almost empty of other guests, but for me, I was like a kid in a candy store. All attention was focused on me and I didn't have to share with anyone! Truly a fantastic stay! I am hopeful that the guest count increases soon. However, if you like a more sedate experience, exemplary service and one-on-one with big game, now is the time to come!

If not for the animals specially the Elephants I would give this lodge a 1 rating. First of all, the facility has almost nothing to offer. It feels like an old motel. Very basic. The room and bathroom smells... The bathroom feels and look unsanitized. No air condition, it was really tough specially during the day/afternoon. At night we had to open the balcony door. Room has a TV but no signal and even when there is a signal it is impossible to watch from the bed, the bed frame is blocking the view. The reception staffs needs intensive training.. It was our last stop for our trip, and we were stunned on how different hospitality was, comparing to the 4 other lodges we were at. I was like is this still kenya? We did not enjoy the food at all. Food selections really need major improvement as well as the quality.

A good facility that gives you an opportunity to watch the gentle giants up close as you have an excellent meal and drink. The team was great and always at hand to provide some help. We enjoyed our stay there as a group undertaking a workshop. They ensured we received the support we needed. The food was great! I enjoyed the Indian cuisine and absolutely loved the desserts. Recommendations for improvement: Room facilities: provide a mini-fridge due to the heat - they did bring in one for me, which I appreciated! The bathroom shower floor also kept flooding - might be useful to check the drainage. Include more bathroom toiletries such as shower caps, lotions etc Meeting Room - Please consider installing additional air conditioning units. It was quite hot in the afternoons as the units were not adequate for the space. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and I look forward to visiting with my family.

We stayed here for one night on the way back from Watamu. All the staff from reception, bar and restaurant to cleaning staff, were polite and helpful from the minute we arrived. The restaurant and bar look out onto Tsavo and two watering holes. In the evening we were fortunate enough to watch 35 plus elephants come down to the watering hole right in front of us whilst we ate our meal. There was also a hippo in the other watering hole. The rooms were clean and well equipped, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, and a good size and we had a room with a verandah that overlooked Tsavo. The food was fantastic and there were extra helpings offered to us if required and they were also happy to make something if it wasn’t on the menu (we have one slightly fussy child). There are 3 pools there and one is like an infinity pool that overlooks the watering holes. All in all an amazing stay. The only downside is that you have to pay extra to use the spa/steam and sauna facilities which I think should be included in the price. There were also spa services available, such as a massage for an extra charge. Would definitely stay again.

Wonderful surroundings and very peaceful Stunning to watch the red elephants up close at the waterhole Accommodation was basic and not worthy of the 5 stars, guess they are for the tented camp area. Basic food which is ok but over priced and for which I was being overcharged as the staff billed me in USD which meant an additional 300 khs per meal. Quite an over charge given there were 3 of us for 4 days. Rectified after I complained and pointed out I was a Kenyan resident. Lovely self drive safari, a good 4x4 is a must in the rain.
