We had little time in the camp, but the room was nice, bed was good, and dinner was yummy. They showed us how they cook the dinner under the sand. The fresh cooked eggs in the morning hit the spot. I enjoyed climbing one of the buttes in the morning for amazing views and photos. Found a two-foot lizard up there. We missed the night music and dance to which they bussed in people not staying at the camp. The music did not sound traditional but a mix of things including the Macarena. Probably just the thing for a bunch of sweaty desert campers. Once the entertainment bus loads left, the place was empty due to the border closures because of the Coronavirus. I'm sure that is hurting business now.

The campsite has a nicely decorated Dining area and there is abundant food for the Buffets. The huts are all covered with shade cloth and there are no glass domed huts to "sleep under the stars". The campsite is not close to the Arch attractions so tourists need to pay for the 4WD transport. The huts were OK (functional bathroom, comfortable bed and 1 or 2 electricity outlets) but other tourist had a mouse or had cockroaches in their hut.

Rose Sand/Hillawi Camp is a Bedouin desert experience, not a place to be pampered. We were touring the Valley of the Moon (Wadi Rum) and were thrilled to have the opportunity to share a meal of local lamb roasted under the sand of the desert along with the usual Arabian mezze, all wonderfully prepared, sitting in a modified tent sitting among the mind-blowing geology of the Wadi Rum. Several of us took the opportunity to shower and change after a days adventure, and the rooms were exactly what we expected. I would go back in a heartbeat, especially for star-gazing!

Simple, clean, air-conditioned accommodation, good bedding, what you need to spend a good night in the calm of the WADI RUM desert. We had dinner there in a festive atmosphere after a 4x4 ride at sunset. The typical meal was quality and the staff very helpful and kind. Night lulled by silence. The classic breakfast is also served in buffet style. For us, it will remain an excellent moment in a magnificent site. Thank you all

The worst camp ever, I’ve never seen before. The food, view and everything there is bad. My kids did not enjoy the place due to the bad treatment from the coordinators.

I do not recommend anyone to visit it anymore.

Definitely a unique experience different than any other desert/Safari experiences, why: beacause your in Wadi RUM, (Moon Valley) is another name called in some of areas, sunshine sunset, Jeep trip into remote areas, high mount, colorful desert, enchanting and peaceful serenity and calmness. all this combination you can see in this trip, I was lucky to choose Hillawi camp, they are really respecting environment, calmness respect privacy and do not change in nature. again all this is added to their good hospitality and nice Bedouin food (Zarb) and so the camp atmosphere in general, thank you Omar Alkhatib & thank you Abdalla najada for you letting us to feel that if we are at home.

We were part of a tour group that stayed here only for one night, thankfully. It was probably unfortunate that on this particular night there was a large group of school children also staying there and they proceeded to run riot for the entire night and we had no sleep whatsoever. I was also expecting some well fitted out tent type structures for acommodation but these were more like rows of army barracks type tents sitting on concrete slabs. No hot water, you had to trek way across the camp to the communal facilities for that. Would have been good to have a central fire going at night and have someone talk about the Bedouin way of life and customs etc while having drinks and small eats. There is a central lounging type area but nothing going on to engage the guests. Lovely location in Wadi Rum and the night sky is great but the whole thing is let down by unattenative staff, poor quality acommodation and food and lack of guest engagement and entertainment. I know there are quite a few of these camps in the area catering to the tourist trade so if I was travelling solo I would look elsewhere. If you are with a tour group then you may just have to grin and bear if you can't get them to change.

We stayed at the Hilawi camp on Oct 25. This was our first experience in the desert and we found that everyone was extremely friendly. Though this is not an authentic Beaudoin experience, we liked it as we wanted all the amenities around us, clean beds, water, toilet and sink. We loved the food, the roasted lamb was excellent! We lucked out as there was a huge crowd and there was good entertainment for the night. A group of Jordanian men, traditional dancers were there and performed their Dabke, I believe that they are of the Ma'an group. My sister and I enjoyed dancing with this group, the music was good and we really had so much fun. We really enjoyed our stay here at this camp. We also enjoyed the 4x4 trip seeing the Wadi Rum scenic spots and the red sand dunes.

We arrived at lunch and were greeted very warmly and happy to partake of the BBQ lunch on offer as the aromas that hit us as we got out of the car were amazing. The lunch lived up to expectations. We were then shown our accommodation for the night which for the 2 of us consisted of a double bed and a single bed. Behind the beds was a separate area consisting of a toilet, cold water shower and a basin. There are lights and sockets( British 3 pin configuration) The beds were made up of sheets and 2 blankets. We were also shown the very clean toilet block with hot water showers. The showers were carved into the rocks so each one was different. We then had our 4 hour excursion into the desert. Truly amazing, certainly the highlight of our Jordan adventure. Once we returned we quickly changed and then went to the central area where there were several large fire pits. The desert is cold at night! We were then shown how the dinner was cooked in Bedouin style under sand which has been heated by an open fire. Dinner consisted of chicken, lamb and potatoes plus the usual salads, hummus, flatbreads etc. After dinner there was a bit of dancing but there weren't many people in the camp so it fell a little flat. Most people went off to bed as it was cold. So glad I packed thermals, my daughter did sleep in her sleeping bag which she had brought with her. Despite the cold there was still mosquitoes in the tent. Got up before early to watch the sunrise. Breakfast in the morning was quite basic but perfectly adequate. There was boiled eggs, flatbread, hummus, cake and olives. Tea and instant coffee. Yes, there are a lot of tents but it is only a base, Yes, you can hear your neighbours but this is camping and you only have a thin Bedouin blanket between you and them. The camp was basic but clean, food was great.

Background: As part of an independent GAP tour, an overnight stay was arranged for me by the hired Jordanian driver. This was a semi-permanent encampment near the Wadi Rum entrance, consisting of rows of tents, some "rooms" with private WC, a common area and a toilet/shower block. It shares a huge sheltering rock outcrop with another private camp.

PROS: As this place has been used a lot by tourist groups, it has already an established reputation within the tourism industry. This establishment also offers camel rides and/or 4x4 safari rides inside Wadi Rum. I asked for a sunset safari ride, which was a worthwhile photo op trip. The cloudless night sky was a beauty to behold. The toilet/shower block was reasonably kept. Dinner was lamb and potatoes cooked in the traditional Bedouin-style; that is, above smoldering embers but under the ground, covered with sand. Yumm ...

CONS: Well, it's not exactly an "authentic" Bedouin camp per se (what with concrete toilet blocks, tables and chairs, 4x4 trucks, etc.) There are only men in the camp, men who actually are residents of Aqaba or nearby villages. This is their livelihood though. Unless you arranged for a camel ride or 4x4 safari, there isn't much else to do in the camp, except perhaps to lounge around and read. Don't even think of staying inside the tents during the day. It's like a sauna in there! Lastly, the tents are provided with mosquito nets, but are definitely NOT sound-proof, flea-proof or mosquito-proof. I had to endure a sleepless night with a snoring neighbour, while the mosquitoes bleed me dry.

Verdict: If you must demand authenticity down to its roots, then this is not for you. Otherwise, for the non-fussy traveler who would just like a taste of desert life, then this foots the bill. Recommended. Grade B+.
