Reviews are all subjective but there is little about this hotel which could be considered paradise nor luxurious. It is overpriced given many of the points below. First important point...don’t consider it for a short break from Singapore. It is a good 1hr30mins drive from the ferry port. The ferry crossing is also far from comfortable. So in short it’s a good 3.5-4 uncomfortable hours from central Singapore at best. In future we will fly elsewhere. Second, the beach is hugely underwhelming and given the size of the resort the clean stretch of sand is far too small. There are approximately 10 loungers on the beach none of which have cushions so are wholly uncomfortable to lie on. There is also a very visible pipe leading into the water which doesn’t fill you with confidence. Third, whilst the actual pool itself is nice to swim in the lounging area is far too limited. There are around 12 loungers in total and as a result a mad rush ensues to grab one even in a quiet period. Fourth, for a hotel marketed as a luxury resort it is not very polished. There is a building site at one side of the swimming pool. The underneath of the main lobby/ dining room has been turned into a rather messy store space. The rooms lack any warmth. The whole place needs more care and attention. Fifth, service is very friendly but equally hit and miss. Plates are not cleared after eating, tea/coffee orders at breakfast often go forgotten and towels at the pool are not frequently replenished. Sixth, the food isn’t brilliant. The breakfast is poor (for European tastes) and not particularly well organised. It leaves you wanting to leave quickly rather than take your time. The Indonesian restaurant is average at best. Seventh, in this day and age WiFi is standard. Both in the room and by the pool, speeds are incredibly slow. What is good? - the rooms are spacious (almost too big) - the bike journeys back and forth are enjoyable - the food by the pool is decent - there are a range of activities (but there could be more) - the gym is nice It’s all a bit average, and doesn’t make you want to relax. We won’t be returning.

The stay was definitely a lovely one. The thing I was most impressed was the kids’ club. The activities were fantastic even though the club was complimentary. Was not expecting so many activities for the children. I am so grateful that the hotel made sure the children are entertained so the parents can have some time off. Food wise, lack variety. But considering we were only there for 3 days, we were quite content. But for longer stays, I would expect more variety. Be prepared for a 1 hour journey from the ferry terminal although there will be complimentary shuttle by the hotel. I love that the hotel provided bicycles. Very thoughtful. But the place could do with more shady trees. On hot seasons like September, it could be too hot to walk or cycle. Overall, great service. Friendly and helpful staff.

We spent 2 nights here on weekdays and thoroughly enjoyed the tranqulity of the surroundings. Service was outstanding, as mentioned in many previous reviews, and the front desk was very helpful and responsive to my emails in the weeks leading up to my stay. We had no problems getting a pool deck chair as occupancy was low during the week, and it was very nice walking out to the sandbank during low tide to catch the sunset (which was lovely on a clear afternoon) and watch the skies turn into hues of light pink and purple. It's not exactly a beach for swimming, but we enjoyed lounging on the chairs and the hammock. We were staying in the upper deck seaview terrace room which was incredibly spacious and spotless, though those who are extremely fussy may bemoan the fact that there's barely a glimpse of the sea. Some areas of improvement needed: It's a lovely gesture to provide a complimentary birthday cake upon check in, but we found our cake uncovered and placed directly under the stream of air from the aircon unit. We checked in rather late in the day so we didn't know how long had the cake been exposed and "chilled" that way. We had dinner at both restaurants and on both occasions, the red wine served to us was "off" (although the staff were very willing to replace it by opening a new bottle). Food at Rica Rica was nice but it wasn't served hot. At the international restaurant, we ordered the lamb shoulder which tasted very much like mutton (just mentioning this to caution those who prefer one over the other). Lastly, housekeeping failed to clean our used glasses or remove the empty wine bottle, and I found my clothes which were previously left on the bed strewn over the bedside lamp. Overall, we had a pleasant and relaxing stay and we were well taken care of from arrival at the ferry terminal all the way to departure, but the long journey required may deter us from returning there the next time we need a short getaway from Singapore.

Just returned from a 4 night stay here at this beautiful resort and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pick up at the ferry terminal and transport to resort, plus check in was seamless and effortless and completely stress free. We stayed in the beachfront villa with private pool and it was so secluded and relaxing. Beautifully appointed room with all mod cons one would expect from a resort of this price point. Breakfast each day was sensational and varied daily to keep things interesting. The staff were so attentive and friendly and added to the overall experience. We also dined in Rica Rica and the main dining room a few nights plus the beach barbecue buffet. I found the beach barbecue slightly overpriced and unfortunately some of the seafood was not as fresh as it should have been. I also found it quite silly that, should one wish to dine on the deck of Rica Rica, an additional fee had to be paid. I was paying a fortune to stay here abut needed to pay extra to sit outside to eat my meal? Crazy and a bit of a gouge. Overall the quality of the food was very impressive. The spa was fantastic and I enjoyed the massage there. The gym was also well appointed and spacious. I also loved the bikes that were provided for easy transport around the resort grounds. I did notice that all the decking near the pool and villas to be very aged and faded. Obviously the wood is exposed to the elements but I think a coat of varnish or decking oil is in order. Finally, this place was beautiful but our bill was $1300 AUD for food and beverage consumed over the 4 days (plus a massage) so definitely not for the budget conscious, and like others have mentioned, they really do have a captive audience. If you are looking to sit by the pool or beach and read and get some sun like I was, this place is paradise. Finally a big thank you to all staff for the warm hospitality. I’d love to return one day.

Dear kitwalker82, Selamat Siang from The Residence Bintan! Many thanks for choosing our resort for your holiday and for writing this review here on TripAdvisor. Great to learn that your arrival experience from the ferry terminal was quite comfortable and that you found our sumptuous breakfast spread elaborate and interesting. Your complimentary comments highlighting our spacious and well-appointed beachfront villas, fantastic ambiance and service at the spa, bicycle concept, and well-equipped gym are very well-received. We would like to acknowledge your constructive feedback for our villas outdoor wooden deck flooring, as a matter of fact, happy to convey the message that we are definitely moving ahead with our scheduled maintenance work for the deck area. Apologies for the miscommunication that took place at the Rica Rica restaurant, we do not apply any charges for the outdoor deck dining space, it is meant to be an option for our guest whether they prefer to dine indoors (air-conditioned) or outdoors. However, we do offer beach dining on the wooden cabana in front of the restaurant at an additional cost. We believe in serving our guests with the utmost professionalism and genuine care, glad that you felt the same throughout your stay. We wish you a pleasant week ahead and thank you so much for spending your holiday with us. Warm Regards, Rajeev Paul Operations Manager
