Sen Hotel has two cute dogs and a friendly old couple. I was struggling to check in even after showing my booking details via email at reception with a picture of my passport. They wanted me to email my passport through. Wifi was relentless to prove who is in charge and did not work. Two of us were stuck at reception trying to check in. We tried to access wifi to email passports to the hotel but apparently wifi here is not compatible with our Samsung phones. Mmhhhh interesting. My friend with an Apple phone had no issues checking in. Finally out of frustration I asked if they can't just take my passport number and picture from my phone. That seemed to work, though it took a long time. So I guess one has to carry their passport everywhere... Finally I was upstairs in a decent enough room, it started to rain and I felt chilly. The windows were wide open and there was buzzing music everywhere. Mosquitoes were everywhere in the room and there were no nets on the windows nor on the bed. Since the room was cold I opened the wardrobe for an extra blanket and found a dirty duvet in the wardrobe. Left it on the floor so the cleaners can clean it. The area is decent, close to the Hoang Yen Harbour and the university. Fair for an overnight stay going to Cat Ba Island.

Friendly kind old lady runs the hotel. Room per night is at a great price. Not much in the area for eats unless you're accustomed to cat and dog dishes (but hey it's Vietnam). Hotel doeant offer vehicle rentals, how ever I managed to have a motorbike rented through a feiend of the old lady (paid a little more than other hotel rental fees). Rooms are clean. Some with a city view. No mini fridge. Not many power outlets. Wifi works fine. Would recommend staying here for a cheap stay.

I spent really nice 4 days in this hotel. Even at the beginning I realized, maybe I am the only one who speaks english, but later the owner an old guy surprised me. They are really correct, even you can take bike for free to get in to the city.

Stayed here one night before heading to Cat Ba island. The hotel is far from the ferry and far from the town. Had to take taxis there and away. But the hotel itself is very good. Clean bed nice toilet and shower, flat screen TV, CNN, BBC. Plus the owner is very nice and helpful. They gave me bicycle so I could grab some dinner and snacks after dark since I am a solo woman traveling.

On face value the hotel is lovely with big spacious rooms. The bed is extremely hard and I have come away covered in bites. Housekeeping don't replace towels or toilet roll and the towels don't try in the room. A 1am curfew is imposed without knowing and no keys are provided for the padlock to get back in after this time. It also advertises free use of bicycles which when we asked were told no. There is a really sweet old man that works there but he's pretty much the only highlight!
