We stayed in what we could see used to be a good hotel with a pool, dive center, breakfast restaurant and a really good beach. But it seemed like it had been a bit neglected throughout covid (as you maybe would expect) and that would be fine normally but it was like they did not even know we were coming and were not prepared. The area was a bit deserted so we ended up renting a motorbike to go to the center of Mae Haad to eat etc. With the motorbike it was a fine place to stay as we just used it to sleep, but for a resort we expected more. We reserved and paid for a cottage/bungalow, but that wasn't worth it as we ended up moving to one of the cheaper rooms due to many ants in the room that we could not get rid of.
We just completed Padi open water with KRAI at Koh Tao, and we highly recommend him. He took great care of my son (15) and I as well as my younger son who just did Bubble maker (3 times). Krai is from UK and is very professional, serious and fun to have as instructor. Thanks to him and the whole crew at Coral and Montra Resorts (where we stayed), Thanks to Khun Pissimat, Khun Pornthep and Khun Soo for being so kind to us as well.
Stayed here for one week in an air conditioned bungalow just steps to the beach. Very quiet spot, day and night. Bungalow was roomy and clean, however the bed was a bit harder than we prefer, but still slept good. Hot shower and clean bathroom. A/C worked well..thank goodness. Also a ceiling fan helped move the air. Only 3 channels to view on the TV but we didn’t come to Thailand to watch TV all day and night. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Included breakfast was very good as was the food served off their menu. Only gripe on the food, they do not know how to make a margarita. Fresh fruit shakes and beer were good. Wifi works but is slow. Nice outdoor pool area. Short walk down the beach to more shops and restaurants. Free taxi in morning and afternoon down to the piers where there are more shops and restaurants and where you arrive and leave the island. Beautiful beach to watch the spectacular sunsets from. We would definitely stay here again.…
This was our second time we stayed here when being in Koh Tao. This place is located northern side of sairee beach, so it is more peaceful than other resorts and still close to all shops and services. + Stuff is just great! My thanks to the Cheff, Businessman and Sandie. You made my holiday unforgettable! + Beach. Fine sand and there are also some trees, so you can be covered from the sun if you like. + Beach boy. Mr.Businessman will help you with everything. He gives you towels, book trips, handles loundry service and even fix your sunbed if theres something to fix. +Water is clear, not much traffic, just some longtail boats anchored near. Water is also very shallow so it is good for children. + Great food @ Happy Snapper Restaurant&Bar (I recommend you to take Cooking Class) + Location, everything is just a few minute walk away so you can have very peacefully holiday in Coral Grand Resort + Snorkling trips. You can book snorkling trip from reception or a businessman (man who handles towels and laundry at the beach). Trips are made with small groups, so the guide (Mr. Sandie) can guide you to the best places. Every trip goes with same pattern, first you go to the Ko Nang Yuan island and be there 1h30min. After that you return to your boat and go to 4 differend snorkling spots. Every spot has some own special marine life. + Prices are reasonable, althought we were in island, where prices usually are high. + Island is small so theres no mass tourism (Phanga and Samui are next to Tao so that effects as well) + Theres a taxi boat service on the beach and they offer taxi, fishing trips and tours around the island with reasonable price - All bungalows are not in best shape and some times there are BIG lizzards(+20cm) inside, that keeps you awake in night. - Walkpaths are just path's of sand. - On this time there was big group of swedish people who didn't understand that there were others in that resort also. They keep listening their annoying music very loud from boombox on the beach and pool. They act like they owned whole place and didn't care other peoples at all. It was so annoying that we considered to change resort because of them. For the future, Resort could mention that they are peaceful place to spend holiday. - Bathtowels have seen their best days already? Towels we get there were full of traces. - What cleaners do when 2-3 of them walk in bungalow? Well they made your bed and bring some water but they don't really clean the floor. I leave some trash on purpose on the floor and after 3 cleaning lady's left the bungalow, trash still remains on floor... There was +&- listed on my point of view. Our holiday was very successful and i would very much recommend this island and resort for staying. Even if you are not going to dive course or snorkling. Like some peope have commented earlier that bungalows were full of bugs, i can tell that i didn't see anything. Of course, if you leave food or drink unpacked or outside of the frige, there will be bugs, it's a bungalow resort in tropical island, not a god dammet marriot spa hotel in Barcelona. With common sense and some basic hygiene you don't have any problems with local fauna. We have been traveling already 10 years all around Thailand and this island and resort is one of the best we have ever been.…
The resort was not great at all. Stayed at a 4 people dorm and we had no AC, only a fan. There were ants all over our room and even though we put our trashcan outside, they were still everywhere. We only stayed because we participated in the diving course at Coral Grand Divers. However they did clean our room everyday, but I wouldn’t have stayed at the resort if it wasn’t included in the price for the diving certificate...
Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Grand Coral Resort and it did not for fill our expectations. We stayed in a bungalow. The bed was big but a bit hard. The room itself was quite nice, lots of space and the bathroom was okay as well. Personally, I hate when there is animals in my room, and unfortunately there was lots of them. The amount of mosquitoes is what you expect, when you are on a tropical island. But the geckos are everywhere, both outside of your bungalow (which is totally fine), and inside of your bungalow. Literally the first thing that happened when we arrived, was that my girlfriend got one of them in her face, when she tried to open the curtains in the bungalow. The day after, there was one on the toilet while I was out there. I asked the reception about if it was possible for them to remove it outside. They just laughed and said it was not possible. They laughed even harder when I was talking about a small one (about 5 cm). They thought I talked about the big ones (about 20 cm). We saw the big ones outside of our bungalow as well. The receptionist told us that there lives one big gecko in each bungalow, and can come inside if it wants to. The receptionist also told us, that we live on a tropical island and we can not do anything about and just have to deal with it. Just think it is ironic they talk about, that the animals are free here, the animals where here first and we just have to deal with it, meanwhile there is a bird in a cage when you arrive to the hotel. On our last day, there was also another gecko in our room while we slept. The breakfast is fine, but if your are lactose-intolerant you have to buy your own milk, because they only serve normal cows milk. Plus the fruit taste of nothing, which is a shame because you can find the most tasty fruits just 5 mins from the hotel. So overall, if you do not like geckos in your room, then this is not the place for you. If you do not care about it, then I think you can have a good time here.…
Okey bungalows, a lot of mosquitos and occasionally geckos in the room. Shower pressure, BAD (but decent heat) Bed, could be better, but could also be much worse. Cleaning, not sure if they even clean the rooms between guests, we found cookies behind the bed along with lollipop sticks. But over all a decent place to stay, staff is friendly
Very mixed bag here, though for the price it was pretty disappointing. The room I had (which apparently was an upgrade) was pretty and the resort is very quiet, but there was no refrigerator nor any way to refill a water bottle. The bed was super hard, and "dresser" was too small to fit any reasonable amount of clothes. Breakfast wasn't included, and the restaurant was expensive and not very good. They didn't help at all with getting my bags to or from the room, which was very difficult in the sand and the walkways. Some of the walkways aren't lit at night. That said, the AC worked really well and everything was very clean, so it wasn't terrible. Just nowhere near as good as I was expecting for the price paid.
I'm currently mid my stay at Coral Grand and am so frustrated that we are unable to leave early. My partner is half way through his diving course which is the only good thing going for this place (he'd recommend the school, just dont stay at the hotel). The room was pretty much as advertised but the frustration comes from the lack of basic customer service skills from the staff. On day one I went to reception to complain about the breakfast. There were ants in the omelette mix, mould in the orange juice dispenser and the floor wasn't cleaned to ants were sworming the food left after guests on the floor. I was horrified and refused to pay additionally for a breakfast that wasnt hygienic and that I wouldn't eat. The man at reception just smiled and said that I'd have to complain to hotels.com for them to raise it with head office. No apology, just a smirk. Head office also failed to help, but hotels.com thankfully refunded us the breakfast for the remaining of our stay from their own pocket. Today is day two and I woke up early to catch th 8:45am shuttle taxi they have to head to the pier. A shuttle service that when checking in, the receptionist wrote on our information leaflet. the same receptionist again (when asked they say that there is no manager, I find that hard to believe) told me that they only have one service now at 8:30am, and 13:30pm,and that the 8:45 and 13:45 are no longer going as its too quiet,so I'd have to wait till 13:30 for the next taxi. Again, no apology, just a smirk and laughing in your face. I would expect a hotel to stick to their word and book a service on your behalf as its their error, but no. Just avoid this place - rude staff is a sure way to ruin your holiday, I'm counting down the days. …
I did the Open Water diving certification in Coral Grand with David Bonas as my instructor. He was very helpful throughout the course and I felt in safe hands. The equipment is new and the theory part of the course they give you tablets to watch videos to learn in your own time and not stuck in a classroom all day. Would highly recommend and will be back in the future to possibly do my advanced o/w certification
