Cleanse at the Sanctuary Thailand and so much more :) I have recently done the Cleanse at the Sanctuary. I finished exactly one week ago and I feel great! First of all I would like to mention, that I am not one to write reviews but in this case I felt like I want to give something back as the world deserves to hear about this place. I have been coming to the so called tri bay area for quite some years now, simply because its the only place on the entire island of Koh Phangan, where one really feels secluded and can still experience nature's raw beauty ( no cars, no road- just bliss) and the Sanctuary is one of the places that still maintains this atmosphere! When you arrive at in Haad Thian beach, your nervous system instantly relaxes - and for a detox , this really is ideal. Even if you are not looking for a detox, its probably one of the most beautiful places on the island to come and enjoy nature, nourishing foods and healing modalities such as Yoga and other treatments. But back to the detox - because the food is insanely good at the restaurant , and I would call myself a foodie for sure - i wasn't sure if I would manage to abstain from it for this long, but for those of you who don't feel like giving up food completely - there is a gentle cleanse option - one meal a day from the raw cleanse menu - which I personally feel is a very nice alternative and still super beneficial. Anyhow - I did the complete cleanse - which means no food at all. Instead you get about 3-4 Shakes a day - which mainly contains clay, probiotics and psyllium husk - those ingredients help cleansing and pilling out toxins, when having daily enemas ( if you haven't ever done one - they are super easy going and actually it feels quite nice to be clean and empty) there is a 2.30 pm green lunch juice - which gives you all your nutrients and a lot of herbal supplements , that support your system throughout the detox - such as digestive herbs and super greens - because of this very well thought through program - you are not at any point hungry! The enemas contain coffee + NAC and optional herbs and probiotics - the last one always contains probiotics - in order to make sure you are leaving with a healthy amount of gut bacteria. There is a menu of herbal shots and elixirs as well as a beatiful tea menu which is available to you all day - as a Yogi and health food advocat I really enjoyed those a lot! Your schedule is fairly busy, with all shakes , herbs, shots, enemas and ebening broth - as well as the entire healing program being available to you - the staff and Catherine , the woman that runs the program are pretty much always available to make sure you are having a smooth journey through your detox - Catherine is a top herbalist as well as an ayurvedic therapist and has a huge amount of knowledge to share - I definitely picked up a few new skills about home remedies. 7 days can be long, when you are not eating and I won't lie - at some point it was quite hard work and this apparently happens to most people around ay 3 or 4 - all I can say is , that this is definitely a mental thing- its like going for a vipassana or something similar - you do need to put some effort in to get some benefits - once you cross your mental boundaries and eventually sit with your emotions - you will come out the other side tho - feeling ourified inside and out. My skin started glowing on day 4, as well as my eyes - and one week later ...people still tell me I am glowing ( as I am very much sticking to the post cleanse protocoll) , which is really what you want to do in order to keep the effects long term. My gut feels amazing and any issue such as bloating which i experienced before has magically dissolved! my digestive system is currently on fire and my energy levels are up - this happened around da 5 and is still present right now. My mind felt a hundred percent more clear - which makes perfect sense - you sit with it - its like a meditation. All food cravings have pretty much disappeared - you kind of come out the other side approaching food even more as a practice to nourish your body - which I had done before but it come even more organic now. All in all - if you are thinking about doing a Cleanse, then this is the place to go - you dont want any stress or noise around you when doing it - you want to take a journey inwards and get into a heaing mode, where your body starts fixing itself - you won't regret it - I am going to integrate this cleanse into my yearly routine now and most people I was sharing this week with told me the same. If you are curious about my journey - check out the Sanctuary's instagram, where I shared some excerpts of my week! You are what you eat - and this really is true! :) x

Aside from the natural beauty of the area, which is certainly not attributable to any action or omission from the hotel people and its management, but rather to Thailand, this place is NOT worth the stay nor the hassle to arrive there! The facility is fairly worn out, the air conditioning in the rooms barely works, so the space is never chill, not even "fresh". The food is tasteless and prepared in a careless fashion. This place sadly reflects no love behind! The yoga sessions are ok, nothing out of the ordinary and in a poorly aired location/bungalow. There are not even enough chaise longs to be at the beach, since there are only 2 of them for all the guests. The staff are unmotivated and spend most of their time hooked to their cellphones rather than making themselves useful. Over all, one gets the impression to be in a sort of "ghost town" here. Do NOT waste your money in this place! There are several much better places than this one not only in that area but in general, in the myriad of islands that Thailand has to offer.

Dear Veronika, Apologies we did not meet your expectations during your short trip with us in May. I clearly remember this period when very un-seasonal rains washed out a section of our beach and some of our beach amenities with it. This year has been particularly weird weather wise don’t you think? Thankfully our beach is back to its beautiful, magical self now. Our quaint 80sqm jungle Buddha hall is renowned for its simplicity and jungle beauty, ideal for yoga immersion. Even the monkeys come to observe class sometimes. It has been a bit of a challenge reawakening Sanctuary after her Covid hibernation, but we are there now, all rooms are fully refreshed and Sanctuary is looking her rustic best. Our kitchen team is also back to full strength, taking care of a menu that we are proud of. I’m sorry your Sanctuary experience caught us in our pandemic transition, and not at our blooming best. I do hope you can give us another try sometime in the future and be pleasantly surprised. Best wishes -Nolan

The Sanctuary is THE place to get away from all the hustle and bustle and fully recharge body, mind and soul. I fell in love years ago and keep coming back like many others. The pristine beach (and beautiful neighboring bays), and the surrounding jungle provide an amazing setting to retreat inwards, enjoy the great yoga classes, amazing massages and other wellness options. If you seek to deepen your Yoga practice and/ or become a Yoga teacher yourself, I can highly recommend the workshops and trainings offered. I completed my Yoga teacher training here and loved it. The teachers here are truly special and teach holistic Yoga beyond the Asanas in the most beautiful setting one could wish for. If one wants to have a boogie, there are also some parties nearby once a week, otherwise this is the perfect tropical serene getaway. The food is divine and the offers and activities include Yoga/meditation on the beach, steam room, healing sessions, detox programs, hiking through the jungle, or one can just immerse into the quiet and nature, relaxing at the beach and in the hammock. Moreover, the staff and people are so kind, open and supportive and make you instantly feel like home.

There is no wonder why The Sanctuary holds such a special place in so many peoples hearts - I went for a 10 day yoga holiday and absolutely loved the experience. My cute bungalow was nicely snuggled on a hill 15 meters from of the sea which I could observe from my balcony together with the jungle. I very quickly felt at home - the staff were so welcoming and fun! The common areas are perfect for relaxing, chatting with other guests or visitors from another bay or for reading, whatever takes your fancy. The food was very good and I my request for more "Thai" style spiciness was accommodated. My main reason to go to The Sanctuary was to get back into my yoga practice and I cherish the classes that were led by Randall, Swara Yoga. This practice focuses predominantly on pranayama rather than jumping straight into a series of difficult asanas. For me, this was the perfect step to getting back in tune with myself. The Sanctuary is slice of paradise for anyone looking for a genuine natural experience to chill or reset to a happy and healthy body, mind and soul. Thank you Sanctuary - hope to visit again soon!

So glad I didn’t make my reservation here without seeing. This place is in my wishing list since 5 years. Always wanted to make a healthy Yoga, vegan retreat. I never did. Today I had the opportunity to arrive by sea to the Sanctuary, I hire a Longtail for all day and I decided to come here for vegan , clean and healthy lunch. What a disappointment, only few vegan options, I order Mexican burrito and was very oily, and the extra on the side Tempeh also very drowned on oil. The place for my taste is very abandoned , doesn’t look as the place I saw in the pictures. Also they doesn’t respond to your questions by messenger and I felt very ignored. The beach is not fine, soft sand is hard to walk barefoot, you need shoes to go to swim.

Dear Sonia ,firstly thank you for making a Day trip to Sanctuary and sorry we did not meet your expectations. I must admit to being surprised actually . After hibernating during Covid Sanctuary has recently reopened slowly since mid december last. Our detox center will reopen on April 10 . We have an awesome new menu on which we are getting mostly super feedback on. It's this feedback that is helping us grow our brand new menu. Which is, I would say, that 40 % is vegan, 40 % is vegetarian with a smidgen of delicious seafood for those pescaterians amongst us. I have today ordered the Mexican Vegetarian wrap for a friend to test your feedback and they thought it was delicious ? so I apologize that you seem to have had a miss on your brief visit. If you are still on this island I would like to invite you over and allow me to share some delicious treats from our menu. I am 100 % confident you will not be disappointed. I wish you safe travels in these difficult times. Best wishes , Nolan

It was my first detox with colonics, the experience was amazing thanks to Catherine, Yatri & Giorgio, everything was simply perfect Catherine has always an answer or an advice, to your doubts, questions, needs, she is highly experienced and competent, warmly welcoming and supporting. She is amazing as a yoga&meditation teacher too. Yatri is deeply kind and supportive, an amazing therapist with magic hands & special heart. Giorgio is always smiling and preparing something delicious, fasting or not fasting ;-) and took great care of his guests. For me this stay was simply unforgettable, shared with special souls in a special place. As the Sanctuary Thai, this is a place for conscious people, with great curiosity, exploring attitude and open heart and mind. I'll always be grateful for these days (5 days) that helped me detoxing from physical and emotional toxins.

I am thankful for 5 life changing days I spent with The Sanctuary during a detox retreat in Málaga. The retreat took place at a charming house surrounded by nature. We were a lovely group and shared our individual journeys. During the day we had yoga and meditation classes, healthy and delicious drinks, wonderful treatments and inspiring talks with Catherine. I learned lots about listening to the body, the mind and how to live a healthy and balanced life in a world full of haste. Thank you Catherine, Yatri and Giorgio for helping me to reconnect with myself and get grounded again. I feel so good, happy and home in my body which I haven’t for many, many years 💛

I spent one week with the Sanctuary Team Catherine and Yatri near Málaga where they offered a pop-up detox retreat at a wonderful house in the mountains together with the house owner Giorgio. Having done fasting and detox retreats before, I chose this retreat because I fully trust Catherine and the Sanctuary team for their expertise, professionalism and time they always dedicate to each individual in the group, and again, they proved this with great results. I especially liked the healing program with yoga and meditation classes everyday plus extra massages and reiki sessions on demand. I spent two weeks in 2019 in the Sanctuary in Thailand, tried out different healers and must say that they all are gifted and talented - the “quality” is outstanding and the great results speak their own language. So it didn’t come as a surprise that similar to the Bay, in Malaga the majority of the group were returners. Because people know each other and/or share the same experiences, you get a strong feel of a loving family in just a few days which helps you a lot getting over the aspects of a cleanse that are not so yummy (colon cleanse etc) :) Helping hands are not expected but appreciated from guests, and if you are looking for a fully fledged 5 star hotel experience, this may be rather not for you. All in all, Catherine, Yatri and Giorgio did a great job and I appreciate to be able to enjoy a Sanctuary experience in Europe. I would be very happy if the team continues to offer this in 2022.

This was th first detox / gut cleanse I've attended and I have to say it was amazing. The level of care shown by Catherine and Yatri was exceptional and nothing was ever too much trouble. Catherine's knowledge of all things to do with the body and how it processes what we throw in it is mind blowing - the daily classes were so informative. The daily treatment sessions were also out of this world - some of the best healing hands I've ever encountered. I also lost 7 kgs in a week, which was unexpected! Thank you Sanctuary 💚
