Detailed Reviews
We had the pleasure of staying at Seetanu for 2weeks around xmas, and had a great time. The staff are very professional and can help with almost any request. The location of the resort is perfect starting point for sightseeing around the island and there is a bunch of restaurants at close towns of Srithanu and Had Yao.
This is our second stay at this beautiful resort and to put it short, we will be coming back soon.

We stayed at the amazing Seetanu Bungalows over Easter 22 for the 4th time.
This time we stayed in the beachfront bungalow with amazing views of the beach and out to sea. The rooms are fairly basic, but have air con a fridge and we’re comfortable and clean
Sylvain and the team were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The food in the restaurant was always perfectly cooked and even our fussy 3 year old loved every meal. They also have a great selection of beers and the cocktails were very nicely made
There’s a nice pool to the rear of the hotel which is nice and secluded and we had it to ourselves for the majority of the time
We ventured out along the beach, turning left we found a lot of people sun bathing in their birthday suits which was an unexpected surprise but heading off the right were other bars and restaurants although many were closed due to the pandemic
We’ve loved every visit here, and this trip was no exception, we’re already planning our next visit back

My wife and I Stayed here for the last 3 nights of our 2 month stay in Thailand and could not have wished for a better spot. Bungalows are basic but kept very clean and ours stepped out onto the beautiful beach . Perfect sunsets without having to travel was a lovely bonus. Great bars in easy walking distance on the beach added to our experience. Staff were all extremely friendly polite and helpful. A lovely place to stay.

Before booking I read the rave reviews on TripAdvisor which all indicated that this place is incredible. Little did I know when booking the "Fun Room" that it was not going to be fun at all.
When we first arrived at the hotel, the Belgian owner greeted us at the restaurant bar/check-in desk. It appears that this is sort of a french family-run place. Offhand the owner, Quentin, is a kind man and escorted us to our room.
Let me start by explaining that there are different tiers/levels of rooms. This was not given to us as an option when booking so we were automatically placed in the "Authentique" room. It certainly was authentic. It is a rather cute looking bungalow from the exterior. Inside, however, it's a different story. The "floor", if you can really call it that, is made of cheap plywood, there is a mattress there that is so hard it feels like you're sleeping directly on a boxspring, a "mosquito net" over the bed so you don't get bitten, and the curtains are stapled to the wall. There is no air conditioning and that previous "Fun Room" that I mentioned was a typo. It's actually supposed to be called the "FAN room" cause there is just one dingy fan in there. As if the room wasn't bad enough I took a peek at the bathroom and just started laughing at how ridiculous the situation was. The entire thing is made of concrete! It feels like you're in a bomb shelter!! There is no designated shower area just a hole in the slab of concrete for the water to run down.
My boyfriend and I tried to think positively and make the best of it. So we traveled down to the restaurant area. The owner greeted us yet again and was our server as well. He does everything! We also met the general manager, G, who seemed nice as well. Food was decent, nothing spectacular. After trying to stay positive about the room situation, we talked it through and really felt that we had been deceived. Nowhere on their website did it mention this ridiculous quality of living. Everything that was written on their website and on TripAdvisor indicates wonderful things about this hotel and yet what we received was so far from wonderful it's disturbing. So in hopes of some kind of consolation or help, we approached G, the manager and explained the situation. We explained our disappointment and asked if there was anything she can do for us? The answer was not only no, but she began to argue with us saying our room was "beautiful, a "great value", and "newly remodeled". I almost fell out of my chair I was in such shock. I have never seen such a thing in my life!! A hotel manager arguing with guests when the guest is directly telling the manager that they are upset. WOW! As if we weren't happy already, this left a terrible taste in our mouthes.
To top it all off we wanted to go to their private beach (the only reason I'm giving this place one star!), and asked what we should use as beach towels seeing as we were supplied with only flimsy shower towels. The same manager told us that our room doesn't come with beach towels and that we should not use the shower towels on the beach. So let me get this straight, I paid for a room on the beach but I cannot go to the beach because I am not allowed a towel? ARE YOU CRAZY WOMAN?!!!!!! We asked the owner in hopes that his kind nature would assist us but instead were rather rudely told that he would give us beach towels in exchange for our shower towels, and when we were done with them then we could exchange them back for shower towels. I was so sick of the attitude at this point that I just took his inhospitable offer.
You would think the disappointment and difficulties would end there but no..... when inquiring about the shower temperature (there is no hot water), the same manager told us it would cost extra per day to get hot water. My blood was boiling (no pun intended) at this point. Little did we know, to turn on the hot water was just a simple switch on the exterior of the bungalow. Thankfully this time the owner came to our help and turned it on for us without charge.
****I realize this is a very long review about my personal terrible experience with this place so let me offer this overall conclusive advice to you: I would not suggest booking here simply because of quality and service. If you so choose to go ahead and book, then I recommend reading VERY CAREFULLY what comes with the room you are taking. I highly highly advise against the "Fun Room" or an Authentic Bungalow. The other bungalow options that come with air conditioning/hot water seemed to be nicer so perhaps that's where people who had written fantastic reviews about this place resided.
**Other notes:
-Far from party beaches ~200 baht taxi ride (30-40 minutes)
-Not many restaurants in the area
-Can rent scooters/vespa nearby to get around island for ~250 baht/day
-Quiet area

Response from Seetanu B, Gérant at Seetanu Bungalows
Responded Jan 23, 2015

I don't usually review hotels as from first hand experience as a hotelier, everyone has their own take on a place and the individual experience can vary greatly on exactly the same day in exactly the same type of room with the guests even eating exactly the same dinner -- you can't please everyone as the saying goes... We arrived at Seetanu after a long journey having booked 2 weeks in a seaview room, greatly excited by tripadvisor reviews and the thought of a sweet bungalow on a beautiful beach. As well we had had congenial communications with the reservations manager so felt really positive about it all. We left after one horrible night. There was no one to greet us on arrival (highy unusual in Asia/Thailand), no one to carry our luggage and when the owner did come from the office to assist us, begrudgingly wheeled one of our suitcases to the bungalow (admittedly we did have more than our usual one small suitcase each (2 each) as we are on our way home after living and working in Asia for the past 2 years...).
Upon arrival the bungalow was such a letdown and not at all as it was depicted on the website. And definitely not worth the +US$90 per night. Shabby curtains, stuffy hot room (they knew what time we arrived - no air con on for guests' comfort???), dilapidated furniture, wet bathroom floor. And it went from bad to worse as the evening progressed... Not long after arriving and wanting to go for a swim in the lovely ocean we discovered there were no towels for the beach, only threadbare towels for the bathroom. I then went to the office and asked the owner for a beach towel and was told rather rudely they did not supply beach towels. I must say I bristled at the owners attitude and in the end asked for an extra towel each to which he acquiesced with a begrudging smirk. After 20 minutes still no extra towel for a swim, so went to the office again and after some running around the young friendly assistant bought me the towels. Who travels with a beachtowel or even bath towel these days???? Even providing a light cotton beach towel which costs nothing and which are available everywhere in asia would suffice and after all, you are right on the beach so of course people want a beach towel. And dare I say, for US$90 a night and being right on the beach one would expect a beach towel in the room!
After returning to the room I glanced from the bed and noticed that the curtain above the luggage rack upon which my suitcase was opened was completely drenched and dripping with water from the airconditioner and there was a lake of water forming on the floor and unfortunately in my open suitcase as well. My husband went to advise someone to be told that they would send some towels to mop up the floor but none ever arrived nor was anyone sent to see to the problem -- again we had to remind staff and get the towels ourselves. We had wanted to shower before dinner only to discover there was no water (lots still forming on the floor from the air conditioner though) -- again another trip to the office to be told the tank had drained that day and would be filled in about 20 minutes... 2 hours later after a dreadful Thai dinner, still no water and yet another trip to the office this time for bottled water to at least have a sponge bath before bed (the young assistant guy was really helpful and trying to please everyone in both the restaurant as well as us for whom everything seemed to be amiss...). Apparently this lack of water was known at the time of check in but no one had informed us of any such thing. Meanwhile the aircon rattled on and continued to leak and the doof music from down the beach began to thump on (...until 6 am) and the lake in the room increased in size. Finally the water did come on, however the shower tap kept on falling off as the thread was bare and whenever you finally managed to turn the water on, water leaked all over the bathroom floor creating yet another lake in the bathroom and continued through the night creating yet another lake which we had to wade through to get to the toilet in the morning.
Finally seeing the absurdity of the situation and falling into bed laughing at it all and wondering if we were out of sync with everything: you know -- murphys law - it never rains but pours (at least airconditioners and faucet outlets were pouring where we were..), etc etc., we went to pull up the sheet only to find that a single sized sheet had been arranged sideways on the queen sized bed so that the sheet only covered us to our waist and our feet stuck out from the bottom. I ended up sleeping under my sarong and my husband used the single sheet. We continued to laugh as really, who could believe such occurrences in one hotel room -- Basil Faulty's ghost was certainly lurking in the rafters.... Meanwhile, puddles continued to form in both the bedroom and the bathroom and the doof dooffed on....
I do understand that it is difficult to maintain houses and airconditioners and equipment in the tropics by the sea having to always battle the moisture from both the air and sea. And I do understand when it is busy and towards the end of the season it is easy to lose sight of the details and keep on top of everything that will keep your guests happy and comfortable. And I know how hard people work in the hotel industry and have total respect for that. However in the morning upon checkout my husband wanted to show the owner the problems with the room in the interest of other guests and he was not interested at all and seemingly knew about all the problems already!!! As a hotelier how can you ethically let a room with such problems?? To add insult to injury the owner showed no remorse at all and charged us the full amount for the room. Having grown up in hotels from having parents who owned a number of hotels throughout their working life and having been in the business myself, I could not believe the attitude of the owner - not even an offer of a free coffee for our discomfort. Not a single apology - only a sneer saying we were unhappy -- yep that was certainly an insightful observation especially after paying US$+90 for the night in what should have been at the most a $30 - $40 a night room even when everything worked! Then to top it off he charged us the 3% surcharge for the credit card transaction and could not even supply a copy of the credit card receipt because the paper had run out and obviously he had no intention of replacing it - at least while I was there. Come on... how hard can it be (I could have done it for him...) and surely there was an extra role of tape somewhere in the glassed in office... Clearly this man is in the wrong business and should not be in front of house. Never a smile only a sneer; never a moments pause or gesture to even try to make me feel okay about what was a truly dreadful hotel experience... he seemed to neither care for the place nor his guests...
The place itself could be charming with a sweet beach and laid back vibe. It did seem fairly clean though -- just not cared for and definitely overpriced. I don't mind if a place is simple and clean and funky and have had some of my best holidays in such places, but this just fell so short of everything it was made out to be and lacked any of the great hospitality of Thai people or of most people who choose to be in the hospitality industry.
As my mother always says it is called hospitality for a reason and there was nothing hospitable about this place whatsoever and am baffled by the number of positive reviews. Would never recommend it to anyone.

Koh Phangan is an extremely beautiful island and the Ao Pao Chao beach is one of it's best bays. Some nice restaurants on the beach at the neighbouring mini-resorts. Far away from the full moon party, the only disturbance was the Seetanu resort itself. The Reef mentioned is dead so imagine more rocks and plenty of water plants and some aquarium fish. Very nice shallow waters though. The next beach (Haad Salad) has similar look & feel but fantastic snorkelling!
The Seetanu bungalow resort itself I can't recommend unfortunately. All the typical Thai hostmanship and friendlyness is gone. Also this is concrete bungalows, concrete restaurant... not the look and feel you expect in tropical paradise. For us that was a problem, we don't fly all the way to Thailand for western food, leather coaches, glass tables, 25/7 tv noise in the restaurant and house music at sunset. As mentioned in previous reviews I read, the European owners were very rigid and unfriendly in their approach. You even get a sheet with prices or everything you break in the room. Also beach-view is only for the happy few in front row, not even the restaurant. But in the end we moved next door, where we met several others who had moved, Neighbouring resort Seaflower is really great and has all the things you expect on such a beach, quite music, bonfire, bbq on the beach, hapiness & friendlyness, sunbeds in the shadow... also the place next to that, Phangan Cabanas was far better than Seetanu... even with a swimming pool, Burmese hospitality, great food, beach view everywhere and at the beach dining... and above all 30% of the prices of Seetanu. So my summary is: nice, well organised, expensive place for those who are not travelling to Thailand for the country's food, atmosphere and SMILE!

Response from quentin s, Gérant at Seetanu Bungalows
Responded Sep 16, 2013
Of course it is impossible to please everybody, but this comment is so unjust that we just have to respond. We think that this gentleman did not inform himself well enough before coming to Thailand and his expectations did not match the reality. Because of this we can understand that he is disappointed, but that is no reason to take it out on our resort. On our web-site and other booking sites it is clearly stated which bungalows are “beach front”, which ones have a “sea view” or a “garden view”. Our restaurant has a wide selection of food, Thai, as well as Western, so we can cater as many tastes as possible and our prices are very competitive. To know this the gentleman would have had to have been in our restaurant, but he never did, he did not even stay 1 night. It is true that we have a T.V. in the restaurant, but the volume is ALWAYS at zero and we NEVER play house music, not even around the full moon. Chill-Out, Lounge and Reggae Music is the mix that we play, at a very discrete volume. Furthermore, from the restaurant you have an excellent view of the sea. We regret that this man has not enjoyed his holiday, but we have tied-as we always do- to give the best holiday experience to everybody.

I just read the good reviews when booking this place, I ignored the large number of less good reviews (many!) and the very rude answers to some of them from the management. I should have read it all before booking...The location is on a beautiful quit beach, near many good restaurants. The bungalow was ok but that’s it. Please don’t look at the pool in the pictures since it’s separated in the back and no one uses it. The restaurant I never tried since the ambience wasn’t inviting, when you’re on a beautiful beach like this with amazing sunsets you want to sit and enjoy it, not sit in a dark restaurant. I think that the food is good though since it was busy in the evenings. The staff - some where friendly - mainly the Myanmar people, some ok - the Belgian staff, and some really unfriendly - the Thai woman that I guess is the manager. If you work in a service profession - service should be something you really love to give, when people complain (in the reviews) you should listen and not aggressively defend your point. Overall - I would only stay here again for the beach and I would book a bungalow on the very beach since they looked good.

We stayed 5 nights and wished we'd only stayed 1. BEWARE: THEY WILL NOT GIVE A REFUND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The view is beautiful, but that's really all these have going for them. The beach itself is dirt and polluted. The bungalows are shabby and dirty and the service is appalling. It's run by an aggressive westerner who doesn't know anything about running a resort. The shower is very bad pressure and the whole bungalow feels like it was tacked together in a home-job. We booked the "romantic bungalow" and it was anything but. The water was shut off twice during our stay with no notice and the staff were constantly burning garbage in front of the resort. The bungalow was not cleaned our first day, the door was very difficult to open, and the bungalow had a broken lamp which was never replaced or removed. When I asked about these I was threatened and treated aggressively by the western "boss". They did start cleaning the bungalow after that, but they never fixed any of the other problems. This place is western-priced for a thai standard. We paid 1100 baht per night (on sale). Go somewhere else and pay half the price and get better service. Far from town as well, 20 minutes walking to town and 7-Eleven and 25 minutes driving to Thong Sala.

Thank you for your time taken in writing this review and it wasnt indeed our pleasure to have you as our guest. Its not frequently that we have customers so rude with our staff ...and indeed I had to come and manage this by my self because other customers were totally surprised about your agressivity and we cannot accept that you treat our thai staff.... It's clear that you even know anyhing about thailand's rules, rates and behaviour... We are not usual with this kind of primary racism and agressive way to speak. We sincerely apologize on the unpleasant experience you had during your stay with us. It is certainly not in line with our service standards and your constructive comments will allow us to continuously improving our service to ensure that we will do our best to meet the expectations of all our guests. Once again, we thank you for choosing Seetanu bungalows as your preferred choice of stay and we hope to never see you again in the future. The Management

Our feedback: it is a lovely place, bungalow close to the water, nice clean beach and landscape garden, quite and best place to relax, good restaurant, excellent seafood- but we feel down, because easy things become so difficult and makes us angry that the owner want make money with reduce service by:
...housekeeping: if you want new towel or need toiletpaper or a clean up the bungalow, you have to concern by yourself... we want to make Holiday not to organize housekeeping.....the Clearing is unsatisfying, trash can with used toilet paper stand until we ordered cleaning...
...we.booked with breakfast, for exempel: you can choose one Combo incluted 1coffee,1 glas juce,2slice toast with eggs, if you want a second coffe or some fruits or something else, you have to pay. It is too less for a good breakfast you already pay for it
....safe didn't work
...no hook /waderobe to hang up anything
We give 3 of 5 point for the good restaurant, good location and the friendly people work there.
Seetanu can get 5of5 easily when they clean up bungalow periodic, change towel automatically, install hooks, and served further coffee, fresh fruits or something else after ask the guest during breakfast.
