I’m struggling to understand the negative comments about this beach restaurant! During our stay at the Layana it was our lunch place of choice and, without exception, we received a warm and friendly welcome from Luke and Am each day. I firmly believe that you get back what you give out in life so some of the reviewers who complain of poor or unfriendly service probably attract it through their own behaviour. We really enjoyed our daily chat with Luke and Am, the former having a daily joke of “long time no see”! There are plenty of shady tables with comfy cushions. We usually opted for a noodle dish and all were delicious, freshly cooked and nicely presented. Washed down with a chilled beer what more could you want? We ate dinner here on our first night but then switched to Lym’s next door as the wine by the bottle was much more reasonably priced. Hence we compensated by coming here every day for lunch. …
This hotel is excellent, the bungalows are very clean and comfortable. No insects The food was delicious ! The customer service was outstanding. We highly recommend it! Quite place, beautiful beach, really nice massage, motor bike and car rental is available at the hotel, which very convenient. We enjoyed a lot our stay
The first meal I had here at the beach restaurant was a Pad Thai and it was really good. So our family came back again for lunch the next day even though we waited ages for the food to come. This time the Pad Thai was the worst I ever had; There were no bean sprouts, (so they just put shredded cabbage instead), no cucumber, no egg and it was drowned in fish sauce. It was total slop, and i couldn't eat it, but they did nothing about it. Even though I hardly ate anything they still charged me. Also, we waited over an hour to get our food. I would recommend this place for drinks but not for food. There seems to be only one person working in the kitchen who hasn't got a clue.
We came here for lunch one of our days in a koh Lanta and had a lovely massaman shrimp curry although they had ran out of any chocolate ice cream to make any of the shakes they had on the menu which they decided to tell us about 15 mins after we’d ordered them. Anyway we came back again because we enjoyed the curry and ordered shrimp massaman - about 40 mins after we had ordered came to tell us they had hardly any shrimp left we said ok fine more potato will do. Very hungry at this point! We sat for over an hour waiting for lunch the curries taste of nothing this day! And on top to make up for the missing shrimp - loads of rank lettuce. Very disappointing. Wouldn’t bother if you want a quicker lunch there’s plenty more cool places further up!
Watch out!! Apart from being hugely overpriced, the resort tries to rip you off further once you stay there: add 3% to a credit card payment of full cost of stay at check in. If you propose to go to the ATM close by, they do not allow you (as if you would run off without your stuff and without a place to stay). They then propose to use another credit card machine in which they choose “local conversion” without your permission, which results in you getting such a poor exchange rate that you pay 7% on top of the price agreed when booking. But obviously very cheap for them. One would think that if you charge on average $135 per night for a room, you would be professional enough to take the cost of credit card payments as part of the cost of doing business, rather than cheating your customers in this way!! You can read in other reviews how they further take their huge share on everything you arrange through them. Private taxi to airport: 20% more expensive, boat tour 15% , etc. And you have to pay extra for a beach towel, clean towels after a few days and so on. They treat their guests as if they are all potential thieves, while the biggest thieve is Eco Lanta itself. The huts themselves are very run down. Dangerous electricity, nails sticking out of the floor, total lack of maintenance. We moved nextdoors.…
It was just barely ok - the bungalows were fine (though we got the only bungalow with sharp stony gravel instead of a smooth path to it - avoid number 109!), the restaurant was one of the worst on the beach (we literally visited every other one to compare), and the staff were not helpful at all. We had one night of no a/c or power (only our room NOT the whole resort) with no apology or discount for that night (we paid more for the a/c room and stayed 5 nights), and we were scammed into paying for our departure transport to our ferry even though it was included in our ferry ticket - the front desk kept saying no it's not included with that company (Bundhaya) and said we had to arrange it with them, then told us it was going to be 200baht and the driver charged us 300baht. When we got to our ferry, everyone else had been picked up by Bundhaya and it was included in the ticket. Eco Lanta Hideaway should have to repay me that money for their error - 300baht is more than half the price of my ferry ticket and transport WAS included, the Eco Lanta Hideaway staff literally refused to call Bundhaya for our free pickup and made us go through them and pay. The staff seemed nice, but every question or request we asked them, they gave incorrect information. We've been to Thailand 5 other times, and we always get information from where we stay to try to use local companies. Don't do that here. Find out information on your own or go to a different resort and get answers or arrange your day trips. For example, we asked could they help us arrange a longtail fishing trip - they said not available at this time but we saw multiple people have this kind of trip in the 5 days we were there; we asked could they help us arrange a private longtail to Koh Rok - they said not possible and kept trying to say take the speedboat tour they promote but we found multiple companies on our own that did this and went and had a great time with Simply Life Longtail Tours (definitely go with them!); we asked could we only go to Koh Haa one day - they said no but we found multiple that did and we went and only had a small group with the dive company. And the transportation issue I wrote about above too. Don't bother asking anything there. Koh Lanta is beautiful and to take private snorelling day trips from. Just find a different hotel to stay in besides Eco Lanta Hideaway.…
This property is neither eco (little plastic bottles provided daily, they still sell elephant rides!, etc.) nor a resort. Few bamboo huts along a dusty dirt road in the pine forest near the beach, with an above-ground pool, terrible restaurant and a massage hut. Their customer service is a chapter of its own - attitude of staff is a disaster. All they want is squeeze more money out of guests. The only thing good about this place is a location on the beach - but there are many other places that are so much nicer also on the beach for the same money even on Lanta island. Avoid this 'resort'!
The restaurant is placed beautiful on Long Beach with a fabtastic sun set. The food is very good. Try one of the Hot Pans. The staff is very friendly. They mix up the orders quite a lot, and you problably have to wait for the food. But when everything else is such a great experience, it does not matter. We visited the restaurant sevral times, including New Years Eve. A perfect place to bring kids.
Didn't actually stay here (so cannot comment on accommodation), only was customer at the bar where I met up with a friend for a drink. Overall, facilities look quite nice and cool, but some of the bar staff really need to work on their attitude. As two foreign females in our 20s-30s we felt 1) sexualised in a rather unpleasant way (guys behind the bar making lame jokes and comments, we both noticed it); 2) treated a bit like walking ATMs (can sit only in specific areas, otherwise pay extra, and having to feel a bit 'guilty' for not ordering anything more after we finished our drinks). So, although the beach bar facilities look quite cosy and cool, I'm not sure I would be coming back on this stay in Koh Lanta because of the inflated prices and attitudes of some of the staff.
We were going to stay for 3 night initially, but the stunning location, right at the beachfront in a completely relaxing eco-environment, captured us for in the end 10 days! The staff is very friendly, the bungalows are just what you are expecting when you want to travel in Thailand, plus all the necessary comfort (airco, minibar, hot shower, ...). They have lots of breakfast options, from Thai to continental, and all of them are delicious. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and we are definitely going back!
