2022 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
Pimalai, nestled in a lush tropical forest with direct access to 900 meters of pristine sandy beach, is the Andaman destination to set your sights on. The beach resort combines all the right ingredients - subtle five star comforts, natural beauty, far from the crowds, with no noise except the sound of the waves sliding in and out and slowly breaking onto the sand.

Let me start by saying this was really a good experience overall. The environment, the grounds and the majority of the facilities are great. You really feel you are in a place that was polished and improved over the years, still preserving an "untouched" feeling. The grounds are massive spread between beach and hillside area. I definitely recommend the beachside! There is a natural and environmental concern but also the understanding that guest won't like animals inside the rooms and nearby the pools! For instance there was a pest control spread through the resort during my stay and I must highlight that I found no bugs or pests anywhere.. just the usual geckos outside.  The staff is just overall amazing, some need to improve English and communication skills but overall very polite, professional and attentive! Really 5 star level service! We had the luck of being there during Loy Krathong annually festivities!! It was really amazing!!! The staff really transformed the beach restaurant into a traditional party scene and the buffet dinner food was to dye for!! (Beware that this had a fee cost but actually reasonable for what we've got... shows, entertainment, fireworks, it was great!! Expect next year to be bigger and better!!! I stayed in deluxe room and Bayfront deluxe room and although both are good the Bayfront is way better! Bigger, amazing beachfront balcony and closer to the center of the resort (beware that there are only 4 Bayfront deluxe room)(also beware that there are upper and lower floors in the standard deluxe rooms, some have great views, others not at all!).Maybe the resort should categorize them diferently! The beach is good, although not blue water or white sand. The koh rok tour is really mandatory for someone staying in koh Lanta.  One big highlight experience was the Thai cooking class with Peng, the resort main chef. I mean it wasn't cheap but totally worth it!! Really recommended!! You learn about the traditional herbs and spices, cook 3 dishes and then enjoy them with the great views of hillside restaurant! The chef also made me the best mango sticky rice of my vacation!! Free kayaks, paddle boards, bodyguard, windsurf, volleyball...great!  Dinner food was overall very good. Actually the overall value of the hotel is superb! Breakfast is good, although international food was bit repetitive. Chek in and out was very smooth and the resort app is great with all the important information, food pictures, and interestingly your current balance. The transportation to and out of the hotel was perfect. Overall although they can improve in the renovation of some areas I found this stay a true tropical 5 star experience. There are some things I think they need to quickly change to maintain the high standards: 1 - definitely to renovate the hillside pool, some tiles are broken, others stained and with odd colors, as also some bricks around the pool and in the poll bell tower. And what happened to the pool foundations and under the pool walls?? It seems unfinished... also, the water in that pool was not nearly as clear as the beachside pool! Something should be done.  2 - the happy hour. I mean the idea is great and the prices are a bargain! However the place is not good, the bar has an odd design, there is not enough places for the guests to seat as everyone goes down there at the same time...the service suddenly falls down to a fraternity party standard due to the high demand! Why not allow happy hour in the pool bar also?? 3 - the room AC is a little noisy. 4 - what happened to the fake lake in the beginning of the hillside route? Totally off.. 5 - tiny detail but the room wooden blinds and curtains had some dust. Didn't find dust anywhere else.

A dream comes true. That’s really a unique spot and resort. I have never experienced such a welcomed and true service approach. The hotel is such great and you should spend the money for the pool villa - it’s amazing. They offer free of charge buggy service to your room. Breakfast is great too. We spent 4 nights there and will come back - that’s for sure. Again I need to highlight the customer focus and the warm and friendly behavior of all people working there. AMAZING

This is our second visit to Pimalai. It is as good or better than in 2015. It was very difficult to leave after 15 days in our Deluxe room (118). Last time we stayed in a Beach Villa, but the Deluxe room was no let down. The staff are incredible, making you feel like you are part of the family. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with superb service, good food and a lovely setting looking toward the sea. If there was an improvement area it would be periodically adding different dishes to the buffet. We ate most meals at Rak Talay. Every dish was excellent and more than enough food to satisfy even the largest appetite. We tried most menu items and could not identify a favorite---they were all excellent. The restaurant staff are the best!! The Seven Seas restaurant in the upper resort area was a romantic dinner venue and would probably be our go-to dinner venue for our next visit. They began their full dinner service with a new menu toward the end of our visit. Some of the dishes (braised short ribs) need improvement and consistency from one day to the next was an issue but expect that will be remedied quickly. We are already planning our return for 2023.

Pimalai is by far the best hotel we have stayed at. It was our third time visiting this amazing place and we received a wonderful welcome back by the amazing people of Pimalai. Right from the start, the car/ boat transfer to the warm welcome at reception. The staff are exceptional, so professional and polite. Our villa was stunning, we had a 1 bed pool villa with amazing views of the ocean. We watched the sunset from our villa pool everyday. The food was amazing too. We ate most of our meals at Rak Talay, Ambuss our waiter always had a lovely table waiting for us and even pre ordered our Massaman curry so we didn't miss out!! The service was more than 5 star quality!! Thank you to Ambuss, Rut, Anee at Rak Talay and Yang (who actually remembered us from our visit 6 years ago!!) and Kwane at the Seven Seas for giving great service. Thank you to everyone else who made our holiday a memorable one, we miss you all and hope to see you soon!

We stayed over a week at Pimalai right at the beginning of our holiday. The resort is beautiful and the staff incredibly friendly. Breakfast was fantastic - dinner a bit less, particularly if you fancy real Thai food, and a tad expensive, hence we always eat at the little restaurant 5 minutes walk down the beach. the beach is beautiful with very comfortable beach chairs. Water is brought to you regularly. Sadly we found a lot of broken glass on the beach - this seems to be a problem on many Thai beaches at the moment. The spa is absolutely wonderful and the treatments we had were amongst the best on our holiday. The resort is wast and I would strongly recommend to stay in the lower part so that you are walking distance from the beach. Wifi was extremely strong even on the beach. This was the only resort which offered a complimentary pick up from the airport

This is truly a beautiful spot. Great for relaxing with beautiful water. There are many nooks and options for relaxing in a quiet area and I never felt crowded. The bar on the beach has a happy hour, which we enjoyed often. I was not impressed with the service at the beach restaurant. It took about 2 hours to get soup and the check. There are restaurants and bars within walking distance with great music and food selection. The morning breakfast was usually good, and service was also good. . Our room was very small, but was kept clean. Limited ocean view. It is many stairs to get around resort ( from our room, it was nearly 140 stairs to get to the beach). .It is possible to get transportation up the steep hill to access upper pool and restaurant. However, they do not pick up or drop off at your room, but at a designated pick up spot. Usually 5-10 minute wait for transport. Massage at the spa was very good with wonderful atmosphere. Sunrise mangrove tour was pretty, but could have been shorter. Local tour guide made this interesting.

To be able to offer a seaview the different 2 floors building have been build in crescendo and you might have few steps to reach the beach,Thank you for your great comments about our awarded spa ,.Looking forward welcoming you again in Pimalai

We stayed at Pimalai a few years ago and liked it so thought we would go back. We were collected at the airport and then changed van at the ferry port, for some reason the driver took a very long route, it tool over an hour rather than the 20 minutes it should take. When we reached Reception they were so welcoming and happy to help, it was a good start to our stay. We were shown to our room. We had a deluxe villa and it is truly lovely, the decoration is very clean and in t traditional Thai style, its spacious and has all the facilities you could wish for. The view from the balcony was spectacular. The breakfast was nice, there was plenty of selection and the choice was good, no complaints from us. The only downside is the size of the resort, it is so large that it takes so long to get anywhere and makes you feel that you cannot be bothered.

The best place we stayed at during our three week holiday in Thailand. Beautiful rooms, perfect beach, excellent restaurants, and incredibly kind and helpful staff. There’s a little town down the beach with a few bars and restaurants if you want to wander around. A really special stay, we’ll be back for sure!

I have visited Pimalai many times before and left with pleasant experiences. The last visit was no exception, despite all the challenges presented by COVID and economic downturn. First of all, the usual friendly faces, eg. Ying, Ambuss, Mai, and Lai etc, always provided excellent services. However, I also want to highlight the unsung heroes, who started with the persons receiving us at the airport, the drivers and the sailors. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with the usual smiles and the lemongrass welcome drinks, which was chilled at the right temperature for those who had travelled a fair way. In addition, the buggy drivers were always meticulous and careful in negotiating the winding and steep slopes, polite and smiling all the way, making your hop in / hop out of the buggy effortlessly. Last but not least, the various receptionists were so helpful in answering questions that my family posted regarding connecting flights from different airlines and baggage check-through etc, which were clearly outside their areas of responsibilities. Not only did they take the time to listen carefully to the questions raised, but also their response time and answers were right to the point. In fact, I was quite pleasantly surprised that Poon, the receptionist, actually took the trouble to call on her contacts who worked at the airport to help me find a solution. Before I forgot, I was quite impressed by the English standard of all the staff there, particularly those who have frontline responsibilities. I once encountered a staff whose English was not as good, but immediately another colleague jumped in to provide the cover and answer all my issues thoroughly. Truly a wonderful team, congratulations to you all! No doubt, we shall visit Pimalai again in the not too distant future.

As usual my partner and I booked it for our luxury yearly vacation for 7 nights which we were already talking to extend for more days but this time unfortunately we didn’t last 2 nights. It’s so sad to see that place going downhill because it used to be our twice yearly vacation every year, and it has been like this for the past 6 years. Before pandemic and different management it was an incredible place which we haven’t had services and place like that anywhere in the world, and we travel !! No even Bora Bora - French Polynesia , Maldives , Bali or even the Seychelles !!! Everything went wrong at this time , starting with the pickup at the Koh Lanta pier with it was so very strange to been picking up not from Pimalai staff also the Van. For us that to see the Pimalai staff waiting for you at the airport and other locations was a big big smile on our faces because we used to say ‘ Now we are Home ‘ it was something we couldn’t describe to each other we just used to feel so so happy 😀 But no anymore !!!! Ok , another thing was getting to the checking and get the fresh towels and fresh lemon grass drink , again the whole trip even still on the plane on our way to Thailand we used to say can’t wait for those fresh towels and that drink !!! But not anymore - ok for safety pandemic still around us and safety is first thing !! But every Airline and resort already are doing that , they still behind or maybe trying to cut cost around the resort which we had seen a lot but I will get there ! But if you really want cut cost totally understand and fair enough Covid was easy to any industry specially for the travel and hospitality but at least inform your guest and they will get prepared before get there. 1st night dinner Absolutely shocking! I could never expect that from pimalai at all. Stuff untrained, poor communication, running around without know are they doing, terrible ! Bartender using the cheapest liquor 🥃 I ever seen which brought my partner with a terrible dyharrea. My main course came absolutely cold couldn’t eat had to send back each we never ever ever send anything back before because was so yummy and delicious and you just want to order more and more. Just asked for the bill and went to the room which I was still hungry n did the mistake to order a ice cream on the new Pimalai app which poorly disagned and terrible communication again !! I asked for 2 scoops of ice cream even confirmed it 3 times but it has arrived 2 portions of ice cream with 2 scoops each with no spoons 🥄 on both of them and I had to used my finger’s because the spoon arrived 30 mins late and already melted. Day 2 Woke up with a different mind and we said let’s forget and it’s going to be a beautiful day with no stress. Guess what ! more stress , by the pool ask for a coconut water and strait way been informed no coconut water. I said not even one In the whole resort ? Look up there in that tree , lots there and how come no coconut water ! Ok no worries. Dinner time arrived and we’ve decided to go and have it at the seven Seas restaurant because it supposed to be a special one because my partner birthday was coming and that we go to pimalai every year at the same time of the year to celebrate his birthday, he knows it was always going to be perfect , place , location , food etc but this time was so embarrassed!!! Order our food wine and water. Starters arrived , wine too but just got servers wine once my the waitress and then we had to help ourselves which I don’t mind but if I’m paying for the service please delivery each. It’s the same u but a first class plane ticket and the flight attendant tell u if u want more go the the galley and help yourself!!! Really !!!! Anyway wait wait wait for main course and it never arrived went back to the room again hungry but at least this time we hand some crisps we bought during the day around the resort We then we starting talking and asking ourselves what was going on !! Shall we stay shall we leave ? ! Let’s see in the morning n maybe give another chance. Went for breakfast the new manager came and ask us what was happening, I think he was already waiting for us that morning to talk which is fair enough, and we told him everything and ask what’s going on at pimalai ? It’s not the same one ? Lost everything!! Staff , the magical Thai touch , services, communication etc etc etc… everything!! Not the same one.. as soon he left a big , massive rat 🐀 starts running at the breakfast room and then that’s was the last stroll ! Went straight back to the room and start packing!! Pimalai - you need to go back at it was otherwise you won’t last another summer. Frank previous manager you need to step up otherwise you will Loose that place and it will be so so devastated because it was where we loved to go every year and the place we had our best day of our life , our Wedding 💒- so sad to see Pimalai like this 😞😞

Dear Brustolon, Thank you for your comment however as you are the Partner of 100Countryman we already received the comment and I will copy the reply send previously. First of all, as already mentioned this morning I would like to apologize on behalf of the team for not being able to deliver the usual Pimalai experience. As a regular guest, your expectations would be set high enough for us to motivate ourselves to exceed them each time you visit us and if possible, anticipate all your needs as well as always guarantee a smooth stay. Rest assured that this was never our intention and the whole team is terribly sorry for having spoiled your break away from London. We will learn from this unpleasant case and continue to work hard to avoid similar problems in the future. Secondly, I would like to thank you for bringing this matter to my attention, it was very important to listen to your feed back in person today and therefore, fully understand your position I would like to clarify of the comments regarding the team , we retained more then 60 % of our team but as it happens a number of them have taken other career paths , however we are glad that most of the core team are still here and that for more the 10-15 years ; we are strict when it comes to hiring new team members and continuous improvement and training is paramount in our organization. We are launching all our new menus gradually over the next few weeks . You might as well notice that all your F&B expenses were not been charged to your final bill as the F&B team was shocked to hear about your experiences .It was an absolute pleasure to serve both you and we hope that on your next trip to Koh Lanta you would do us the honor of choosing us as your accommodation once again.
