In January my husband and I spent two superb weeks at the Spice Tree. This was our third visit and we will be returning. All the staff from management to gardeners give 150%. The cooking experience with chef, Anil John inspired me to try the recipes at home. The cuisine has something for every palate but chef’s take on traditional Keralan dishes is delicious. The crisp white table linen demonstrates their attention to detail and makes the dining experience something special.
The complimentary activities like the walk to the 3000BC dolmans and the forest and village walk are experiences not to be missed. We also enjoyed the tea tasting and excellent afternoon tea in the tea/coffee lounge. Sitting in the library, taking in the panoramic view of the valley below, enjoying a green tea and cakes was a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
I would recommend a pool villa. They are spacious with every possible aid for your comfort provided. My husband particularly loved the freshly baked cakes and biscuits in the room each day and I looked forward to seeing which design would appear in the towel art each day. Always something different. The highlight for me was an early morning swim in the pool as the sun came up, watching the kites swooping and calling to each other in the valley and the play of light on the tree canopy below. Magical.
Staying in the hills surrounded by tea plantations and cardamom groves was a wonderful way to escape the frenetic pace of Indian cities and tourist attractions. This oasis of tranquility is an essential respite from a hectic itinerary and gave a change to relax within this quiet remote Indian valley.
The road to the Spice Tree is a bit bumpy but every bump is worth it to stay at one on the best small hotels in southern India. We have travelled extensively in S. India for the past decade and without hesitation I would award more than 5* if that were possible to the Spice Tree.
Congratulations to all the staff for their hard work and the warmth of their welcome.

Distinctive excellence down to the most trivial details. That is what makes SpiceTree stand apart from the rest. The moment you step foot at the resort, you are welcomed with warm smiles from each and every single staff, accompanied by the breathtaking views and weather of the Bison valley. In my personal opinion, I feel that there is nothing better to start off a day, than being greeted with ‘genuine’ smiles coming straight from the hearts of the staff; a precious little thing that is lacked by majority of the resorts globally.
SpiceTree stands a couple of notches above, when they say that it’s a boutique resort. The property is constructed in such a way that Mother Nature was given paramount importance in all aspects. The food that was served to me during my stay at this resort was probably the freshest I’ve had in a considerably long time. Organically and sustainably grown local produce ranging from spices to meat to vegetables is cultivated in their own farms and the quality of this will truly be reflected once you order that favourite dish of yours from their menu.
If you’re planning to take a break from the hectic city schedule, then look no further. This would definitely be that place where you can go into an incognito mode, whilst being immersed in the luxurious lap of Mother Earth. A thousand pictures or words won’t do the slightest of justice to the experience you amass from this exquisite jewel situated in God’s Own Country.
Tip- Try booking their pool villa to get awestruck by the most picturesque view you can find in Munnar. Nothing can be more intoxicating for your soul than waking up to the mesmerising infinity pool overlooking the majestic lush-green bison valley hills accompanied by a hot cup of tea amidst the crisp weather.

An amazing resort away from the highways on a mountain side at its best when covered in fog. Had stayed in both honeymoon suite and private pool villa. Both are amazing in its own way. I would personally choose honeymoon suite which has ample indoor space with couple spa area, jacuzzi and an open shower. The best was the outdoor recreational area when covered in fog. The private pool villa has its best infinity pool view to the mountains and one can relax a day in it. The restaurant and reception would be a steep climb from the cottages which would be challenging if it happens often. They do offer room service. The restaurant has a very good menu covering various delicacies, should improve on taste wise. Enough areas dining outside the restaurant along with lounge, reading room which also has an infinity pool by side, a games room, a tea tasting area along with their bakery. The cookies from their indoor bakery is so tasty and they do provide few in rooms as complimentary. They do have special spa and meditation rooms. The complete staff is so responsible, helpfull and very well behaved, that's a very positive attitude to upkeep the value of such a place. The car was dirty with rain and cleaned well on the day of checkout without any request being made. The Spa with a view to the mountains is a must try. It was really great. And the milk and wine bath in copper tubs available in the cottages is such a relaxing one. They do arrange sunset walks to nearby mountains if climate is good. Any shops won't be at a quick reach distance, so it would be good to carry something which we don't expect to he available at a resort.

A warm welcome and a chilled refreshing drink greeted us after our long trip from Cochin.

Check in was swift and efficient, our luggage was ready and waiting for us when we completed the short walk to our room 202. Which is in an excellent position close by to the restaurant, and reception but with the lay out of the room you wouldn't realise you were.

The room itself was nicely proportioned, a lovely touch was the attention to detail in the room and bathroom, with fresh flowers adorning everywhere.

The view from the bed and balcony had stunning views over Bison valley, a pleasure to open your curtains of a morning and drink in the views and listening to what seemed like a million birds singing.

Onto the food, well what can we say that already hasn't been said in previous reviews.

The quality of the food was very good, and not overprice.

Staff were excellent in every way, very attentive but not obtrusive. A special mention to Sooraj  who's service was impeccable nothing was too much much trouble if only all hotels had a Sooraj.

Also a mention to the walking  guide to takes guest on short but interesting walks, very knowledgeable pointing out different plants ect.

Overall an excellent experience  and would highly recommend this hotel.

This very chic spa and well being hotel was a gem. The staff greeted us with happiness nothing was too much trouble after we checked in we were shown to our rooms which were large with fantastic views over the valley. Large bathroom with jacuzzi, walk in shower all decorated with beautiful flowers, bathrobes and flip flops, extra special toiletries. Over all the room was fabulous. Before we arrived I emailed the hotel to ask if I could have a cake for my husbands birthday on the day we arrived to which they did at no cost and was so tasty. We did the organised walk with a guide the next morning which was interesting and meeting people from the local village who wanted to meet and greet us with a smile, great walk just one word of warning the walk back to the hotel was challenging😄but we did. A time to relax in the infinity pool was well needed and catch a few rays on the sun lounges which were provided. Great stay would definitely recommend to stay here. The food was delicious with plenty of choice served from very polite and tentative staff. Thankyou for making our stay a wonderful one

Spice Tree Munnar - An excellent place for your vacation. Why because, they have so many options in their rooms. Pool villas for an exotic mountain view and pure privacy. Club Suites are meant for pure natural stay build up in woods and you have a Jacuzzi option too. They also have a common swimming pool and a good sitting area. Rooms are very neat, clean and tidy.

The foremost thing to mention here is their initiative to avoid plastics. They give water in glass water bottles, soap and other things in Areca containers, even the hand towels are being used instead of tissue papers. Love the way a lot for conserving nature.

About the food they have mostly North Indian and International food varieties. They have to bring more Indian foods. Because this place is located bit interrior from town so travellers have to depend on them only.

They are taking all guests for a nature walk in the evening that will be very thrilling and adventurous.

Overall you can stay here by binding up with the nature. I Highly recommend. Special mention all the staff are very friendly in nature. You will surely have a homely feeling because of the hospitality given to you. I should mention this on the day of our check in we have been late to the resort due to the travel time, the people in the resort have allowed us directly to the room and they told sir will do the formalities in the morning. That's a very nice gesture from the team.

Thanks a lot for the awesome experience. Will surely come back again.

Enjoyed three lovely nights in a wonderful setting overlooking the Bison Valley. Our room was very comfortable with a small but decent sized terrace overlooking the valley.

Went on two lovely walks, including a 7 km hike through cardamom plantations into the valley below, although the walk back up the hill is best described as challenging to say the least.

Breakfasts were excellent and dinners were very good apart from a fairly average meal on the first night, although this was greatly improved upon over the next two nights. Sadly, the cookery demonstration we had signed up for was cancelled at short notice but we were treated to a traditional Kerala lunch on the house, which was a nice gesture.

Certainly a great place to relax, walk, swim (good outdoor pool) and burn a few calories playing table tennis.

Blissful, beautiful and perfect...

Our two-night stay at Spice Tree was the highlight of our India trip. We enjoyed every moment and wish we could have stayed longer.

The resort sits within a cardamom plantation. The houses blend into the natural surroundings. Our room was large and comfy with beautiful views of the Bison Valley. The bathroom was fabulous and without plastic items. We loved the bamboo comb and toothbrushes, and the cute ceramic jars for shampoo and conditioner.

The Sunrise Jeep Safari tour that the resort arranged was fantastic. Our driver did his best to reduce the impact through the long bumpy ride and showed us the best points for viewing and photos.

We spent the rest of the day enjoying the resort. We enjoyed the most wonderful and healing spa, the delicious bakery and tea tasting, the fun and beautiful sunset hike, the peaceful library, and the timely and clean laundry service.

The superb breakfast and dinner were so fresh and well prepared. We loved everything we tried. We only wish we had time to take the chef's cooking class.

The best part of the resort is the staff. They were very welcoming, attentive, and provided the best service. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Absolutely correct, although if had the rooms at the top of the site it would be possible to access the restaurant etc. There are steep paths to all other areas of the site.
