I wanted to give this one less star because the shower was a little narrow and I kept banging my elbow... but everything about Puerta Azul is so wonderful that I couldn't give it any less than the maximum. From the owner Talia to everyone on her staff, the rooms, the breakfast, amenities... the views... oh my goodness!! Unbelievably beautiful and peaceful.

We loved our stay at Puerta Azul! I was a little scared traveling to Roatan with 2 kids (2 year old and 12 year old) but our experience was great.. Talia provided the baby equipment we needed for our 2 year old to be comfortable. (playpen and booster seat) We played in the water right off of the end of the pier for hours. I do not believe our vacation would have been this great if we would have stayed somewhere else. If you are going on a family beach vacation, (especially with little ones) this is the perfect spot! Thank you Talia!

My mother and I had three days to get away, and this was the perfect escape! Puerta Azul is a simple 10 min taxi ride from the airport. We arrived and Talia gave us a tour of the grounds. She was very helpful and always on call the whole visit. She even arranged rides for us to get around town and recommended restaurants we should try. We got an oceanfront bungalow that was beautiful and clean with great air conditioning! It was incredible to be just steps from the Caribbean Sea. It was a great price, and we loved how remote it felt. There are usually ~20 other guests staying with you, but we barely more than 5 of them. It was an excellent opportunity to snorkel, read, relax in hammocks, etc in peace! We walked down the beach and saw local kids climbing up coconut trees and finding bait go go fishing. This is much more interesting to me than walking down the beach and seeing other tourists. The hotel grounds are very clean. The cleaning woman does an excellent job cleaning while we were at breakfast. She makes the room smell great, too! Breakfast is delicious and different every day. The fruit is incredible, like it was just picked off the tree that morning. Talia's friend Spencer helped serve breakfast while we were there and he was a delight- he offered us excellent advice on the best snorkeling spots. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway and a great spot to snorkel, this is your place! Book your room now! :)

I spent two whole weeks at Puerta Azul and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was entirely wonderful. The location was fantastic, right on the beach. The private jetty and blue door provided access to a lovely hammocked area, perfect for reading, napping, relaxing and also access to a very close and beautiful reef. Swimming, snorkelling or just floating with a noodle was easy and fun. There is a beautiful reef as mentioned, right off the dock but a little further swim across a tiny boat channel was the best snorkelling I’ve ever seen with an extensive, buzzing, living reef. (I’m a massive snorkelling and diving fan.) The accommodation was lovely and clean, both comfortable and luxurious at the same time. Fan, air con and WiFi. Breakfast was delicious and the cleaner would do a thorough and proper clean whilst you were at breakfast. There were plenty of towels provided, both beach and bath, enough to accommodate multiple trips in and out of the sea. Plenty of soap and shampoo was also provided in the room. The shared kitchen has a hot and cold water dispenser, fridge, cooker, microwave, everything you need and a bookshelf with books to read/exchange for ones you’ve read. There was also some board games. The place had a security guard on watch at all times, all of whom were friendly and helpful, happy to cut coconuts for you to drink from the palms in the accommodation area or to give you mangoes from the trees. Leo the driver for Puerta Azul was friendly and helpful too. Talia was VERY friendly and lovely and always pleased to give information and answer my endless questions about the area, tourist attractions, Honduras in general etc. She was always happy to chat about our stay, previous day, and our finds during snorkel trips and happily organised anything that was requested, cabs, dives, supermarket runs, car tours of the island etc. She was always contactable, reliable and on hand. One evening I unfortunately needed to attend a hospital with my husband and received messages from Talia asking if we needed anything and checking all was well with us. I felt welcomed and safe and looked after as well as relaxed and comfortable at all times. (Kayaks, noodles, floats and life vests are free to use for guests and snorkelling equipment is available for hire at a super cheap cost for the entire stay) I really hope I’ve not missed anything, I’m sure I have but I wanted to do this place justice with my review. It was wonderful and I recommend a stay to all, families, couples, friends etc. I have a huge appetite for travelling and many many places on my list but my husband and I intend to return next year for part of our summer holiday as we loved it so much! Thanks Talia and Puerta Azul team for making us welcome, Jess.

I stayed at Puerta Azul with my fiancé and we had the best time! Our bungalow was super cute, cozy, and clean! We loved the private beach and spent hours relaxing on the amazing dock. Talia was super helpful with her local knowledge and made us delicious, fresh meals for breakfast and dinner. A true gem of the island and we will definitely return!
