Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 6 nights as part of a Titan Tours holiday ”Balkens – off the beaten track”
The hotel labels itself as 5 star. It is clearly far from 5 star by usual European standards. There is minimal staff especially in the dining rooms. There is no proper porterage service. No in-room safe. No minibar. No concierge service. Hotel bar with remarkably limited drinks choices.
Balcony furniture was dirty to the point of unusable. The housekeeping service is barely adequate with ad-hoc change of bedlinen (never daily) and no floor cleaning.
The location overlooking Lake Ohrid is quite beautiful but the hotel labels itself as having a private beech which is simply not the case. Significant numbers of the public used it during our stay.
The dining service is terrible. All residents were faced with a buffet of very poorly prepared and presented food and very limited choice. Additionally it was barely warm on most occasions. This applied to both evening and breakfast offerings. At lunch only my third choice of item from the menu was available. The food itself was universally very poor. No table cloths were laid at tables until we complained. No wine list was available. The hotel sits alone and 3km outside Ohrid town so sourcing alternatives for meals takes planning by either a pleasant walk near the lake or a taxi at €5.
The hotel is modern with a sharp minimalistic feel, spacious public rooms and terraces set in a great natural location but it falls lamentably short in too many important areas especially the food. I would dissuade anyone from staying.
The hotel experience merits a One rating however I have increased my rating to Two because of its location

This hotel is most deffinately not 5 star hotel, maaaaybe 3 star. The rooms are much smaller then it is said (deffinately not 25 m2) and are quite weary and not complitly functional (hair dryer is horrible, fridge is loud and cools too much, shower is broken). Cleanness level is just awful- we stayed for 9 days and our sheets were not changed once, bathroom was never cleaned, chair on the balcony was full of cement and when I complained about it they said it is "just cement". One day we asked cleaning lady to clean our room after we leave and the room was not cleaned at all (cleaning means they basicaly just vacuum the bedroom and make bed). Furthermore, water is not drinkable (there is big sign not to drink it) but no bottled water was given to us except for the two bottles we got on the first day. Pool is very small and smells strongly of chlorine. Saunas are ok, but not always working properly. Staff at the spa is quite unfriendly and it is obvious they don't wanna be there. Waiters at the bar are nice and friendly, but those at the restaurant walk around like sharks as if checking how much you ate. Food is at best average, but it should much much better for allegedly 5 star hotel. All in all, this hotel was huge dissapointment

The hotel is beautiful and the setting is stunning. Limited food for a vegetarian so 4 stars.
It’s about 4km from the town which has more food selections and evening entertainment and costs only about 280denars (£4) each way so worth considering on an evening. The A la carte menu is good in the hotel (you have to remember this is a place that eats a lot of meat!) but don’t bother with half board option as I found it more expensive than the A la carte menu and not very good at all, more like a very limited cheap buffet.
Inside swimming pool, sauna and steam room lovely but very limited on outside loungers - think there was about 25 loungers
There’s a little beach at the bottom by the lake with a beach bar which chargers for loungers (approx £1 a day) which is a nice alternative to the hotel and do excellent toasties for £1.50!
If you are looking for total relaxation in a quiet location in a beautiful setting then this is the hotel for you.

The location is beautiful. The hotel is on the lakeside with easy access to Ohrid and the Galicica national Park. The hotel itself was built to a high modern standard but gave the impression of having been through hard times and needing some funds spent on repairs. The communal areas were kept clean but some of the furniture was tatty and needed repairing.
Unlike other hotels we didn't get any information about the layout or services on offer. Nor did we get anything from Tui. We had a fun time trying to find places and remembering meal times. We were happy with our room and had a lake side view. It was a good shower. Less happy with little things such as how to get clean towels . We were advised not to drink the tap water but no other water was supplied to our room.
If you are a foodie don't opt for anything other than bed and possibly breakfast. Otherwise eat out. We found lots of nice places in Ohrid. When we ate at the hotel we found we enjoyed the views of the lake from the terrace which compensated for the food at the buffet.
The pool area was very popular with families during the day. The gym was well equipped and we used it a couple of times. The spa was limited to a sauna and steam room by the side of the pool .The sauna did have nice views.
The staff tended to wait to be asked to help as opposed to offering help. The language barrier didn't help. Out and about we came across people who spoke English. We found local people were friendly and reached out to help us.
We enjoyed the easy access to the beach. The people running the area let us know it did not belong to the hotel and we needed to pay to use a sun lounger. But hey they also served drinks and a local came by with freshly picked berries and a traditional 'bread'.

This hotel has a real yesteryear charm. Definitely not 5 star as we know it but nonetheless has a great deal to offer. The views from the balconies are incredible. We’ve only experienced sunset views like this in the Caribbean, where you’d usually have a cruise ship blocking it! If the hotel could improve on a few aspects I’m sure the reviews would be more favourable. Breakfast was just adequate, a lack of prepared fruit and a disappointing selection of fresh bread, I must also say it’s the first time, in the last 30 years, I’ve come across a hotel without a toaster. It was so odd, at breakfast, to have so many staff but really nothing to do other than clear the tables. Also, when arriving no information about the hotel was offered nor any help with our bags. Nonetheless the staff at reception, when asked, were really helpful. It’s very easy to get a taxi to the harbour front where there are numerous really good inexpensive restaurants. We enjoyed sightseeing, so much to see. A tip if getting a boat trip from the harbour to the monastery, on the way back get off at the stop before the harbour as it’s a 10 min walk to the hotel. We enjoyed the pool, we didn’t try the beach as we were on a short break of 4 nights. The test, would we come back - yes we would! Enjoy and be open minded if you go.

Just OK. Not a 5 star hotel, but the view from the room was just breathtaking. Big and comfy bed. But... Rooms very outdated and dirty. Balcony was never cleaned. Each day, random things were restocked in our room- no consistency at all. No daily water in the fridge, only 2 welcome bottles of water on arrival.
Breakfast was just fine, repetitive, but you will get this nearly everywhere else. Very tasty cold meat cuts, but very limited choice od vegs and fruits.
The hotel's restaurant evening food was not good. We had 2 evening meals there, and they were disappointing. For example, my broccoli soup looked and tasted like water in which broccoli was cooked rather than the soup. My partner liked their fish soup. The hotel's bar and restaurant served alcohol at different prices at different times of the day. Very strange. During our 7 nights stay there were 2 big private parties lasting till 1am.
The hotel is placed next to the public lake (pebble) beach, which was very loud, specially over the weekend (live DJ events most of the day and evening). Sunbeds on the beach for two ppl cost 5 euro per day.
Plenty of smoking everywhere. I would not come back there.

We stayed as part of a group. The main rooms are all in a good state of repair and clean. My room didn't have a lake view but looked out over the carpark and pine trees. It was modern with a good bathroom and walk-in shower and comfortable twin beds. Wifi in the room was good and there were plenty of sockets and lights. Air con worked OK but there was no safe and only one bottle of water that was never replenished throughout our stay.
As one can see from the map it is scenically well placed overlooking the lake but is at least 2 miles from the town. There is a (public) beach below the hotel which was noisy, littered and crowded with locals on the Sunday. Sun beds are charged for. The only access is down over a hundred steep, cracked steps with no handrail. Extremely dangerous for children or the elderly. There is no shaded seating in the very steep garden area.
The breakfasts were reasonable but exactly the same each day. The dinners, however, were diabolical. On the first night the tables were not even laid with cutlery and it was necessary to go and search for a waiter to order drinks. Most stews were labelled as veal but were beef, the chicken was like shoe leather and there was little in the way of vegetables. Never once was fish served. Photos on their website of fine dining are a figment of their imagination.
This hotel would struggle to be awarded 3 stars in the rest of Europe.

A summer holiday that we were looking forward to but was let down by Inex Olgica. Upon arriving in our room we found that the drain was blocked and after removing the plug we saw it was clogged with hair and other debris. We left the plug out in hopes that the staff would rectify this but we eventually had to do it ourselves. This leads on to the general lack of hygiene around the hotel with the female toilets in reception having dry urine on the seats despite the cleaning form being signed by the staff. Our room throughout our week stay was not swept and there was no availability to cleaning products to do this ourselves. For the meal times we attended we always found that there were pieces of cutlery and dinnerware that were not completely clear of food from the previous meal.
When attending meals in the evenings we came to realise that despite steaks being on the menu they were never available to order. Having breakfast included with your stay is always a bonus but after having the same low standard thing seven days in a row it can get rather bland and different options on specific days would have been a welcomed change. Throughout they day it is nice to enjoy a snack but having to travel in to Ohrid town is an inconvenience and a small shop or snack bar would be ideal for guests to grab a quick bite. There may be a kettle, cups and sugar in your room but there was only two herbal tea bags available, no coffee or tea, which were not replaced. Not having these small luxuries included in a 5 star hotel is a bit strange and the complementary water is the two bottles when you arrive and that is it, despite not being able to drink the tap water.
Relaxing around the pool and spa is a great way to unwind but when the sunbeds are forever collapsing behind you when on a incline it can get rather annoying, ruin your relaxation and be quite dangerous for some. We found that the staff around the hotel, mainly bar and restaurant staff, had a rather bad attitude towards certain guests and would be more inclined to help those that spoke a similar language. When asked for help it came across as if was an inconvenience to them or they would take their time to serve you which made us feel unwelcomed in the hotel.
To end on a good note. The Sunset Bar was a diamond in the rough at Inex Olgica. The quality of service and drinks were outstanding. Ann-Marie was an amazing host and the staff working at the Sunset Bar were the highlight of our stay.
For a 5 star hotel, in a prime location on Lake Ohrid, you would expect better.

This hotel is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid. If you have a lakeside view room, then you will not get tired of waking up in the morning and looking out of the window. The room we stayed in was generously proportioned and tidy, with ample space for luggage and relaxing. One slight negative point was that our bathroom only had a bath tub, and not a shower.
The breakfast at the hotel was nice, with a range of cold meats, cheeses and hot filled pastries. The coffee from the bar was actually quite good too.
The hotel has a nice swimming pool, with views of the lake and a small foreshore with a pebble beach. Unfortunately, the municipality of Ohrid, which is responsible for emptying the rubbish bins had not done so for some time, so there was a lot of litter down at the beach. On the plus side, within 12 hours of reporting this to the reception, the beach was lovely and clean again.
Parking was a bit of a hassle, and I got the impression that people from Ohrid drive up to the hotel, which is out of town, in order to use the beach (as there is no real beach in central Ohrid), so during the day, it can be really hard to find a parking spot. If you're not very confident parallel parking or reversing, then park in the lower car park and walk a little.
Although it's not in the centre of town, I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It's probably needs a bit of love and attention in places, but it's charming and the staff members were very helpful.

When we arrived, our room wasn't ready but we were notified quickly when it was, which was about an hour earlier than expected.
I booked a lake view room, but given one on a lower floor with obscured view, raised the issue with our TUI rep, but was told that even though there were a lot of trees outside our room, we could still see a small portion of the lake, therefore had a lake view.
The room hasn't been cleaned properly. The complimentary toiletries were half used, bins still had rubbish from previous guests. Balcony was completely filthy, full of cobwebs and dirt. Smoke alarm broken, and shower constantly flooded as didn't drain properly.
The breakfast was inedible, very little offering for international guests. No toast, poor selection of pastries, not including croissants. Cereal was either cornflakes or muesli. The fruit was half rotten and nothing fresh. Coffee machine was poor, the coffee was like mud with a strange chocolate taste to it. The so called hot selection was not only limited, but cold and congealed. So glad we didn't pay for half board, much better places to eat in Ohrid at a reasonable price too.
On our last night when we had an early flight the next morning, a wedding was taking place right above our room with music blasting long into the night. Unable to sleep, had to call reception and get moved to a different room just to sleep. This wedding wouldn't have been a surprise and would have been planned well in advance. Not even notified by the hotel of the disruption and noise.
The two blonde ladies on reception were fantastic though. Very friendly and welcoming. Always happy to answer any questions or book us taxis.
It's a shame the hotel is such a letdown as it's located in beautiful surroundings and could be so much better. As it stands this should be a 2* hotel at best, nowhere near a 5*
