In summary (so you don’t have to read my waffling below), would I stay here again? Yes, clean and good value. Location - good. Buses don’t seem frequent and can be too crowded to get on. You will need a car or taxi to get into Ohrid City (or elsewhere). Location at the lake is excellent- lake front. It isn’t crowded, plenty of sun beds and fabulously clean water. Comfort - not bad. Beds ok. My partner didn’t find the pillows very comfortable though. Bit dated here and there and couple of holes in the sheets but ok. Clean. We had mountain view instead of lake view and there was a bit of noise from the road but not bad at all. Didn’t disturb our sleep. Air con is good and effective. Food - ok and plentiful Massive portions from a la carte menu. Vegetables that were boiled just lacked a bit of anything special - like flavour. But apart from that it was fine and very good value. Better value than the buffet but of course more choice at buffet if you want to try different things. Breakfast - buffet. Not huge selection but everything you needed. Staff - mixed Generally good and spoke some English. One very unhelpful man on reception that spoiled the perception of staff. He didn’t crack a smile and seemed to want everyone to leave him alone. My partner is Macedonian so conversed with him in Macedonian and he was very unhelpful with her as well - bordering on being rude. Facilities/Other - apart from a conference over one weekend, the hotel was very empty for August. Such a shame as it has such potential. Hotel is a bit tired and dated in places. Has a gym but some equipment wasn’t working but good enough. Use of pool next door at Bellevue was good, clean, nice pool and plenty of free sun beds.

The two stars I have given were for the service of the waitress & waiter which was good, otherwise I would have given the restaurant Zero! I ordered buttered carrots, peas & cauliflower & my companion ordered trout with broccolli. The trout was filleted but not very well & it was little bigger than a sardine! My vegetables were dreadful, the cauliflower was overcooked (I suspect it was frozen), the peas were tinned, which I actually don't mind too much but the carrots were either tinned or frozen as diced mush. I sent them back & when I asked why they didn't cook fresh carrots I was told that the management didn't take any notice of complaints either from customers or kitchen staff! The hotel is in a fabulous location & they have spent a good deal of money on sunbeds & shading BUT, the meal was like something that appears on Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. Note to management; you need to listen to your staff & customers otherwise the location alone won't save this place.

What an unbelievable reception, first we call the hotel to and discuss room options around 17:30 pm and we been told that they are very busy at the moment :)) and to call them in half an hour.. then i call them around 19:30 again to talk about reservations for 3 nights and what options they’ve got. The receptionist told us that she doesn’t know whats they have on table right now and terribly put the phone down. WHAT A DISASTER AND DISAPPOINTMENT THEY ARE.. highly i don’t recommend at all!! Shame on you!

The Hotel itself has a really nice location outside of the noisy center of the Ohrid city, with a wonderful view over the lake. Unfortunately, the Hotel is quite above the average, offering basic services and comfort. Positive aspect of the Metropol Hotel is the fact that it is quite clean and the waiters and the staff are really kind, helpful and friendly. Would recommend this Hotel if someone is looking for a quiet and isolated place, a place to stay for quite a decent price.

Stayed here for a conference on somebody else's dime. Great location on Lake Ohrid. The views from the balcony on the 5th floor on the lake side are spectacular! You can see the sunset over Albania and look back towards Samuel's Fortress, Plaošnik, the Church of Sts. Clement and Panteleimon, Samuel's Fortress, and Sveta Bogorodica - Perivlepta (Church of the Holy Mother of God - Peribleptos) and Old Town of Ohrid. The room was big enough, but the lighting was a bit dim at night. The bed was a bit hard. There is no safe or facial tissues. The sink and the bathtub drained slowly, and the bathroom fixtures had seen better days (e.g., the trashcan was rusty). Breakfast buffet was fairly extensive, with local fare. Not a bad place to stay, but not nearly at the same level as 4 star lodgings in other places around the world.

Had a great stay and everything was excellent and as expected. But I have to mention that there was one very rude bald waiter on the terrace in Metropol. If we come back in Ohrid again for sure we will go again in this hotel.

After 2 years of visiting Ohrid & now living here, this is by far the best place to swim & soak up the sun. About a 15 minute bus ride from the town, just walk through the garden down to the lake beach. Sunbeds are free & always available & there is no "residents only" policy. There is a small beach bar which is cheap & tasty, good salads etc. I have found out that this is the favourite beach of city dwellers & I'm not surprised. On one visit we also had a massage in the hotel - you do have to book - which was outstanding & very reasonably priced. There are toilets behind the bar which are a bit careworn but spotlessly clean also an open air shower just back from the beach.

The room was big and with a lakeview. The food was delicious and staff very gentle. The town is not far by taxi, and the surrounding where very quite. The hotel has its own pier from where boat trips start.
