My girlfriend and I stayed two nights at the hostel -- well, we tried to stay two nights. On the first morning after we woke, we gave our laundry to the staff for laundry service. At the end of the day, we asked for our clothes. They brought them to us, but about five t-shirts were missing. They went back... More

Good title but not all true. Brett unfortunatley like some travelers plows through life with little care for those around him. I did expect his rant a rave review as we did ask Brett and his partner to leave, This after he had both my daughter and one of our workers crying, as he demanded they pay $20 for "his... More

Here late Feb. 2016. Stayed in Casa Suchi, a kind of annex 2 blocks away. This is more of a restaurant/proprietor review. Ate virtually every meal at El Gringo over my 3 days in Suchitoto. Food was great (taste and price). Robert, the owner, is a fountain of information on the surrounding area. He has been pushing for local guides... More

We spent one night here, with private bedroom and shared bath. It was clean and perfectly adequate. Given we paid $18, my wife and I were happy enough. The facilities are, as others have said, in need of sprucing. But the location is great and the staff convivial.

I was here for 5 days to learn Spanish and the hostel worked perfectly for me. The staff were friendly, particularly the owner who happily chatted and told me about the history of the place. The rooms are basic but clean, quiet and safe and its only a five minute walk to the Centre. The owner wasn't able to offer... More

When arriving in Suchitoto my girlfriend and I were looking for a place to stay. We first checked out the Hostal Lago Vista which was really nice but pricy for us as we were traveling on budget. As we had been reading about El Gringo Hostel in our Lonely Planet and on different websites our expectations were set quite high.... More

Thanks for your review. I am glad you brought up the point about our workers and travel information. They are not trained in tourism and as you found not bilungual. There are times when I get so busy that I am rarely at the hostel. If considering coming to Suchitoto drop me a message before you arrive, even if not... More

Thanks for the review for both our hostel and Suchitoto. Unfortunatley with a $7/dorm bed, $12/singles and $18/doubles we don't have enough margin to include free breakfast, I personaly don't know any low budget hostels in El Salvador that offer free breakfast, although I know one or two in Honduras and Guatemala that do, their rates are around $20/night for... Of the often mentioned trio of hostels, Casa Verde/Anahuac/ El Gringo, this one is the least funky or updated. The shared toilets and shower are super basic. You pass wash bins on the way to your room. There is no garden like the others and the common area is very small with uncomfortable chairs and hammock in center of room.... More

Thanks for your comments we are always looking for ways to improve our place. Painting, now new fans and night lamps as well as new and more hammocks in the dorm area are done. We are hoping to improve the kitchen within the next month or so. We do try our best to keep the place clean, provide comfortable beds... More

We stayed in one of the private rooms for a couple of nights. Stayed here for three nights and since I was the only guest in the dorm, I basically had a private room for $7 per night.
