Dona Esther is a small colonial style hotel in the center of Otavalo, just half a block from the central Bolívar park and near the famous Saturday crafts market. With only 13 rooms we can keep it personal, someone of our staff will always be eager to help you. Your room has a view on the green inner court yard, so you can take a seat outside your room and enjoy a glass of beer or wine after a day of activities, which our staff will gladly bring up to your room. Or take a look on the roof top terrace with beautiful views over Otavalo and the surrounding mountains. Our restaurant with a delicious and inventive menu is just downstairs, our reading room has enough books to buy or exchange and the Wifi is free. A choice of breakfasts is included in the room price. Please note that our restaurant is closed only on Monday evenings, we're there for you every other evening of the week and in the weekends all day and evening. Come and have a look, we'll be happy to have you as our guests!

We are so disappointed! The beds were so small / not comfortable, the room was freezing cold and the chimney released horrible strange gas / smell into the room. We immediately informed the host but she didn’t care, she only care about the money — she wanted to charge us full 2 night for the 2 rooms we booked. Terrible hotel and terrible service, we suggest you to stay away!

yes indeed, terrible! these Israelian/Usa “guests” made their reservation in february, I tried to correspond numerous times about room types, they never responded. They only complaint about everything in the room when they made a reservation in another hotel and came back to collect suit cases, or maybe even made two reservations at the same time. No other room was good. Of course our receptionist asked them to pay 1 night for the two rooms , she could have asked two nights, which is normal. I found them intimidating about the payment and decided to let them leave paying only 1 night and 1 room, avoiding a cheap fight about money. They were blocked and reported as misconduct on booking.com. Luckily we don’t encounter many people like this, our weekend was otherwise filled with lovely guests.

A great location and much more The Dona Esther is located just a half block off the town’s main plaza. From there it’s a short walk to the Plaza de Ponchos, site of the celebrated Saturday market. Cheery and stocked with helpful touristic information, the hotel feels like a haven. We also appreciated the comfy beds, excellent shower, good WiFi, rooftop terrace views, and tasty food in the in-house restaurant. The Dutch owners also directed us to an affable (mainly Spanish speaking) taxi driver named Luis, who helped make our three-day stay in Otavalo stress-free and memorable.

I could not have chosen a more comfortable and central hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the restaurant served up delicious meals. As I was travelling solo, aged 81, and there for 5 nights, the owners, Wendy and Arthur, very kindly suggested places of interest I should visit and organised a knowledgeable guide/taxi driver for me called Luis who really contributed to making my stay so enjoyable.

This was an excellent choice because we loved everything about this bed and breakfast. We found a lovely ambience with friendly staff in this charming inn. After weeks of travel looking for restaurants, things to do and places to stay, we found everything right here. After a days hiking (we used Runa Tupari who use the profits to improve living conditions in the rural community) it was lovely coming back to relax and wander downstairs to the great restaurant. Our room was cleaned beautifully everyday. Thank you so much Lucy and Adriana, Jenny, Susana, Lilia and Freddie.

This quaint hotel is in a convenient location in old town within walking distance from many churches, museums, shops, and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant offered good food at reasonable prices and the breakfasts, which were included, were really good and very generous.
