We stayed in numerous hotels during our two weeks in Ecuador, but the Hacienda Cusin took the cake! This historic property is not only gorgeous to behold, but also has a charm that is without parallel. The staff were warm and gracious and our very large room was marvelous with all the amenities. Each room has an historic feel but with modern touches including a lovely bathroom. There are also many public areas where one can relax with a good book or use the wifi if you need to connect. The restaurant is charming and the food was delicious with excellent service by friendly local staff. I actually wish we had been able to stay longer as the hotel felt utterly comfortable and homey. We also had laundry done in record time and in perfect condition for a reasonable price. One

'took the cake' is truly a wonderful, amusing and charming review for La Familia de Cusin to have! Thank you! Your engaging review and your involvement with the complexity of Cusin, and your sense of curiosity and adventure, defines you. Lewis Carroll and John Cleese would be at home. Beatrix Potter would have stayed! So, you are in good company! Entonces, regress pronto!

We stayed at the Hacienda Cusin for a couple of nights on a hiking tour of Northern Ecuador. The hacienda grounds are beautiful and expansive. Our room was very large and decorated in a traditional Spanish style. The overall impression is good, but when you look at details, much is lacking. The stained carpeting needs to be replaced. We were advised at checking to let the water run for 5 minutes before taking a shower. The water did eventually warm up, but the pressure was so weak that it was almost impossible to rinse off properly. There is no heat in the room but a space heater is provided. Breakfast is included but not dinner. There is a menu with limited options, with a choice of a three course menu. If you aren’t very hungry there isn’t much choice. The vegetairan options

Thank you for taking time to express your appreciation and opinions. And I'm sorry that you had such a frustrating time. Occasionally, a carpet can be damaged but not always time for staff to replace it. Did you request a room change? New water-heaters can interrupt the system and reception was good to advice you so. However, had you requested a better, or different, room-heater, or a different guest room, such would have been provided. As in all guest rooms and website information for 27 years, a 3-course, waiter-served breakfast is included for a guest room reservation, but not so for lunch or dinner. Many similar country hotels throughout the world offer 'at home' dining. A 5-language explanation of Hacienda Cusin being 'a restored, 19th century home' is on all dining room tables, is. The 4-page menu offers considerable choice, viz. haciendacusin.com. And Cusin's kitchens are very flexible for guest's particular requests. Management was unaware of your travel agent's contract with you. A guest room's itemized laundry list has prices clearly marked, giving guest's every indication (and choice) of a total cost at the time of presenting laundry to be cleaned. Perhaps you had not included legally imposed taxes: 10% Service & 14% VAT which the government recently reduced to 12%). Refunds cannot be granted for completed laundry equal to laundry presented.

The Hacienda is a beautifully restored old hacienda with elegant decor and gorgeous gardens. The restaurant is superb. The rooms are charming with fireplaces and nightly hot water bottles. In the area are lovely walks, wonderful views of surrounding volcanoes and delightful markets with crafts of all kinds. I would strongly recommend a stop here along with other explorations, such as the Galapagos, in Ecuador.

What a great experience staying in a 17th Century Hacienda and exploring all the period artifacts and artwork, gardens, grounds, birdwatching and discovering the hidden passageway in the monastery! All our expectations were totally met! We had initally requested room #19, but we were notified one week before our arrival date that it was under renovations and we were given an upgrade to the Deunos Suite! Every evening the fireplace was lit and hot water bottles placed to warm the bed--it does cool off in the evening and get rather damp. The rooms are all very peaceful and quaint, the ones in the monastery more simple and rustic, with adequate hot water, linens and privacy. We arranged a day tour of the area, and were not disappointed, an incredibly awesome experience!

Thank you for such an awesome, detailed and appreciative review of your stay. Sierra 19 was being redecorated, including a new bathroom, in preparation for the upcoming high-season. You deserved such a reward as the Dueño's Suite! YES! Christian is a superb guide! Regresa pronto!

Outside Otavalo lies this beautiful, tranquil, and in many ways luxurious authentic hacienda. Our room was spacious and well appointed, and opened to an garden that welcomed wandering and relaxing at a leisurely pace. The restaurant on site was richly decorated and the food was excellent. We took short walks into the nearby village of San Pedro, and along country lanes into the surrounding hills. All in all, a fabulous end to an otherwise rapid-paced trip to the Galapagos. I would return in a heartbeat if ever in the area again.
