My husband and I visit Ecuador at least once a year, and when we do, we always make a trip to the San Pablo del Lago area. We have stayed in Hacienda Cusin multiple times, and we absolutely adore the farm. I have never written a review before, but I felt compelled to do so after this last time we were there (early January). I'll start by saying there is something magical about the grounds and surroundings; from the majestic Imbabura volcano and the glass-like waters of the San Pablo lake nearby, to the fresh and crisp mornings and cool mystic nights at the farm, to the stunning gardens and flora around, to the colorful garments the natives wear and sell at the Otavalo market...it's a unique and memorable experience that stays with you forever. Even though the hacienda was

We arrived at Hacienda Cusin late at night to find it dark and quiet except for our warmly lit family suite with roaring fires awaiting us in both bedrooms and hot water bottles at the foot of each bed. The next morning we awoke to the true beauty of the place. Fresh, fragrant air from the extensive garden, the beautiful main house with its welcoming dining room staff and delicious fresh food procured from the vast onsite vegetable and fruit gardens. Valeria and Daniella at reception were a wonder. They helped us organize our group of 10 before we arrived and throughout our stay. We took several excursions: to the Condor Park and Otavalo, we rode the well-kept horses at the on-site stables, and explored the monastery and local area on foot. Valeria even organized for a

My extended family group of 10, ages 9 -60, spent five nights here over Christmas. If you arrive at Quito airport at midnight, as we did, and then drive north, you will be greeted by fragrant flowering plants in the cobbled courtyard, an eager staff, blazing fireplaces and hot water bottles warming your beds. This is the most charmingly idiosyncratic hotel, reflecting the good taste and humor of its owner who has dedicated himself to restoring the hacienda and gardens over the past thirty years. The buildings are rich with paintings, textiles, traditional furnishings and creative touches. We horseback rode, took some beautiful walks in the countryside, visited Otavalo market (twice) and the Condor Park, but one of the pleasures of the hacienda is the absence of touring

Our stay at Hacienda Cusin in Dec. 2018 was superb. The service was excellent, every attention paid to detail. The food delicious and well prepared. I loved that we could dine in the beautiful dining room, with a roaring fire in the fireplace and have the option to order a sandwich or a small plate, and not just a full meal. Our fire was lit in our room every evening, warm and cozy and such a lovely touch. The front desk staff always helpful and they arranged very quickly for us to have a driver to the hiking areas we wished to visit. the grounds are amazing like an English garden... I would stay her again!

Had the weather been warmer, I am sure that we would have had a more pleasant tay here. It is a beautiful old property, adjoining an old monastery, with beautiful grounds. Although there has been a hacienda here since 1602, the buildings date from the 19th century. The location is somewhat spoilt by it being adjacent to large plastic greenhouses, which are used to grow roses. The reception area is in a small building, separate from the main buildings. We were shown to our room, which was in the main building, accessible via an open passage on the first floor. The room was pleasant enough and very tranquil. Unfortunately, it was a struggle keeping warm, except in front of the fires downstairs. This meant that sleeping was not very comfortable because the bedding was so heavy;

Thank you for such appreciative comments! We are so sorry that you felt the unusually cold weather. Did you turn on your guest-room electric radiator early, about 4 p.m., and request a hot-water bottle, or request a different room (with a fireplace)? Did you visit the nearby rose plantation, one of the finest in the Andes?
