We needed somewhere to stay close to the airport between flights going to Galapagos so chose here. Only a short cab ride from the airport (the next day we walked to the airport, it took less than ten minutes).

The room was clean and comfortable and very spacious. The beds were comfortable. Free wifi. Service was frinedly and just what we needed after a long day's travelling. No-frills comfort.

These 1 star reviews are talking about a different place. You can make reservations online at booking.com . I got into Guayaquil airport tired and pretty poor at speaking spanish. Caught a cab and for $4 and about 4 minutes arrived at hotel air suites. The neighborhood is pretty rundown, but this hotel is very nice and reasonably priced. Tv, air conditioning, safe, and mini fridge in room ith a large private bath. The rooms seem recently renovated. Only problem I had was that is smelled very strongly of bathroom cleaner and Lysol. I guess you shouldn't complain about a place being too clean, but I could barely breathe it was so strong. I opened the window and blasted the AC, and it cleared out. There is free breakfast which I will check out tomorrow. Overall very happy, and those one star reviews are about a different place...

Friendly staff, although the neighborhood is nothing to speak of.

Stayed overnight here twice on my way to and back from Galapagos. Very convenient, close to the airport and good value for money. Facilities excellent. Nice clean rooms with LCD TVs. This is an apartment, not a hotel so no restaurant or bar. There are a few small takeaway/dining places in the block. Otherwise a 10 minutes walk to a huge mall - Mall del SOL, where you can find everything. They picked me up from the airport for $5. Although not far, convenient and safe if you are from out of town and coming in late at night. Not in the glamorous part of town, but pretty safe. Also got timely responses from my email communications with them. Highly recommended if all you need is an overnight stay for your flight.

We had booked rooms directly with the hotel's reservation office, months in advance, for our stay in Guayaquil. We had 3 nights books - 1 before our departure for the Galapagos, and 2 for when we returned. We had been in email contact direct with the hotel's reservations office on a number of occasions before our arrival, and even on the day before we arrived, and all was good. However, when we did arrive, our room was no longer available, for any of the dates we had booked and pre-paid for. We were told they were very sorry, and hoped we'd understand. There was no other explanation, other than the hotel was full. Luckily we were able to find another hotel, but it was all a real hassle. We'd paid fully for our rooms before we arrived as requested. We did get our money back. All in all it was very unprofessionally run. We wouldn't recommend anyone tries and books this hotel, you might find you don't have a room when you arrive!

We found Suites Guayaquil online and read some of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Its sounded what we were looking for , something clean and relatively inexpensive for a 3 day family break in Guayaquil. We spoke by telephone (from Europe) with the lady at reception there, Paula was her name and made a booking for 2 suites early 2009 (including a $100 US deposit by PayPal). We received confirmation, infact Paula sent quite a few e-mails, I think even phoned my wife to confirm everything was OK.

Fast forward 4 months to July, about a week before our scheduled arrival. My wife (who must have a sixth sense) decided to ring one final time just to confirm everything and give them an ETA etc. She left a message, no one responded. That was a bit strange so she decided to send an e-mail. No response. By this time we had left home base in Quito and were en-route, stopping for a few days in Cuenca before going down to Guayaquil. By the night before we were starting to get a little concerned having heard nothing from 'Suites Guayaquil'. - We have 3 kids aged 16, 9 and 1.5 yrs and ofcourse you don't want to be arriving in Guayaquil early evening with problems. Also (unbenownst to us when we made the initial booking) it was actually festival time in Guayaquil so all the hotels would be busy.

Anyhow, the following afternoon, about 1pm, we left Cuencea by mini van for Guayaquil. I managed to speak to someone by cell phone at Suites Guayaquil who said he didn't know anything about our reservation but that Paula would call us. She eventually did. We said we'd be there in 1 hr and we'd meet them at the Suites to pick up the keys etc. (we had the address). She said that it would not be possible, that all new clients 1st had to come to their office in another part of town to sort out the paperwork etc.

This was a real problem for us , we had loads of luggage, baby pram, 3 kids etc. so would mean getting everything out of the minvan and into another taxi (if we could find one big enough for us all) so we said we would prefer to just come to the Suites. Not possible she insisted. So in desperation we agreed to meet Paula near her office. When we got there, no sign of Paula. Eventually she turns up (her mobile was switched off leaving us to sit there fretting for 15 mins wondering if she would). She says that she will take us to the Suites so we follow her in her car (we are still in the minvan - I had to pay the driver another 10 bucks for wasting his time).

We drive into the downtown area. Eventually (its now about 7pm and getting dark) we stop outside a hotel and we're told that this is it only the name on the door is not Suites Guayaquil, its something entirely different. Now the 'truth' starts to emerge or atleast Paula's version of it.

"Suites Guayaquil is closed, because there was a problem with the accounts so the municipal authorities closed it down temporarily by suspending their liscence. This is a replacement hotel for us."

Gee thanks Paula, and why exactly couldn't you tell us this a week ago? Why wait until we are in Guayaquil with our kids, baby tired & hungry, getting dark before you spring this change on us? Why wait until its effectively too late for us to do anything about it? Was is true, who knows? Could it be that perhaps they rented the 2 suites to someone else because it was festival time and they could get more money? Or did they really get 'closed down'? I asked the guy at reception is this replacement hotel and he said they 'do this sort of thing' all the time. I know what I believe !

The replacement hotel was a dive, dirty and wholly unsuitable. Not an acceptable standard. Gracias a Dios 30 mins of frantic searching on my part yielded a Best Western nearby with space and we pulled our luggage there for a 3 night stay. As far as Paula, she begrudgingly gave me back our $100 bucks before disappearing into the Guayaquil night....Another satisfied customer? Well Done Suites Guayaquil, I hope you reap what you sow!!!

I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give this "hotel" a try for a cheap place to stay in Guayaquil. What a mistake! I was traveling alone and felt very unsafe there - it is not a hotel at all but just a courtyard with several rooms in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and there was no one there at night in case anything went wrong. I could not even get out in the morning because there was no one to let me out!

On top of that, there were cockroaches running around everywhere when I turned the light on.

Maybe for men or people traveling in groups it would be okay, but I had a terrible experience and would strongly recommend against it for women, especially those traveling alone.

Not clean. The Kitchen and the fridge were filthy . Old food left behind from other people . I checked the beds , no mattress covers , clean sheets on a filthy mattress . Also the kitchen and dining room in the suite we had which you can see in the thumb nails are on on the security guards CCTV , so you can be watched in the privacy of your room . Highly inappropriate ! . The neighborhood is not safe !
