Detailed Reviews
The Hotel is eccentric and charming The staff is helpful and could not be nicer.
The location on the main plaza is great.
Parking is free for guests. The parking gates and access cards are inconvenient to use, especially when raining (which it was).
We were told that the parking lot is in the "Front" of the hotel, while the "Back" faces the plaza. Surprising, because there is no clear path from the parking lot to the rather obscure entrance to the hotel. Guests are required to find openings between low shrubs, and step over cement slabs.
Everything seems to be either up or down various flights of stairs!
The four stairs leading from the parking lot to the hotel lobby are covered in worn carpet, not terribly safe.
There is no lift to the rooms. This idiosyncratic hotel is not for anyone with limited mobility. Staff will help carry luggage, thank goodness.
Again, stairs are carpeted, and the carpeting is a bit worn and saggy. That plus the lopsided steps means one must proceed with some caution.
Navigating the rather labyrynthine stairs and hallways of the old hotel one finds a characteristic "gemütlich" indoor cafè with an astonishing variety of cakes. There is no concept of "aperitif" but we recommend trying the aromatic, sweet and slightly bitter Samobor bermet wine.
The cafè offers ample seating outdoors as well, right on the square.
Our room on the 1st floor was clean and "old world-romantic" with the addition of a modern flat screen tv. There is no minibar.
Beds were comfortable, with soft duvets.
There was a nice shower in an otherwise uncomfortable bathroom... terribly small, with the toilet placed behind the door and so close to the radiator that, if the radiator were hot (it was not), one could get seriously burned.
The toilet paper was placed precariously on the radiator, which meant it kept falling to the floor. Not ideal for hygiene.
The wooden floor of the room, possibly due to the age of the structure, was uneven and tended to slant here and there, with several carpets adding to the confusion.
The breakfast room is surprisingly small...we were grateful it was not full, as it might have been suffocating.
Coffee (not bad), hot water and hot milk are all provided in large thermoses.
A small cabinet offers cheese, ham and little individual containers of pašteta (pâté), and fresh eggs are brought out from the adjacent kitchen a few at a time, which means they are always hot and tasty.
Rolls and butter are plentiful, and some instant porridges as well.
Staying at the Hotel Livadic, notwithstanding (or maybe because of) the quirks, was a pleasant experience. We may return there when we visit Samobor again.

We just thought this looked a nice place for a coffee stop. The waitress taking the order was pretty slow to get to us, the hot drinks were pretty slow to get to us, my coffee tasted like it had sat on the side for a while being only warm, not hot and it was not the coffee I ordered. We will visit one of the many other options in Samobor in the future.

Amazing location at the very center of Samobor. Great and cheap parking nearby. Building with nice old charm, nice inside gardens with flowers.
Reception lady very helpful.
To bad that the rooms were not clean as they should be. Carpets need to be changed, bathroom needs to be superclean, not as it was. Would be nice to renew this hotel. Because it really has potential.

Quite good coffee (Italian style), very average desserts and ice creams, no bowl for dog - received ash tray), confused and unorganised service. We've had chocolate cake (average) and cremeschnitte - it was disappointment, it was warm, did not have two layers and we found it a bit tacky. Also for a cake you don't want to sit surrounded by smoking people, but that's a national issue.

The receptionist was very friendly. However, she gave me a room already occupied. It was lucky the guest was fully dressed when I walked in. She was very apologetic, but no offer of discount.
The hotel is dated and in need of refurbishment but this is reflected in the price. But the shower was dirty. I informed the receptionist, who just said she’d write it down. She said there were new cleaning staff from the Philippines. It’s a poor excuse. Where is the training and supervision of new staff.
I don’t mind old hotels, I can understand human error. But no excuse for dirty rooms.
Breakfast was reasonable limited choice but plenty of it, The machine coffee was better than average.

Got someone’s chowing gum sticked on my plate under the cake. Last time I was here, waiter had extremely dirty nails.
Nit to mention we had to wait half hour to even see a waiter.
Dirty, bad service. Absolutely avoid!
Location is nice, but that is the only good thing about this place.

A wonderful stop for a coffee and the traditional cream cake, situated with a view of the castle and the square. Truly lovely service to accompany the above. We did not stay here so I cannot comment on the accommodation.

This is quite an old-fashioned hotel situated right on the corner of the main square – an excellent location. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful and thought is was amazingly cheap for what you get. It's not perfect – we had to ask to move rooms as the cleaners had overlooked some rubbish left by previous travellers, but we got given a really very nice room, and decent breakfasts. If you're after a modern pristine experience, it's probably not for you. If you are willing to accept minor issues, it's a great find.

Visited this place during festival in Samobor. Staff didn't want to serve any of the guests with Kremšnita cake because upper management directed not to sell these cakes since these are cheaper than the other on their menu. Besides this place is outdated with messy toilets and there are far better places to have coffee and cakes besides this one. Quality isn't any better than the other places in close proximity and service is simply bellow average.

We asked in the pastry shop about the cake, we were told that it is the almond cake and we ordered two peaces, one with extra cream. When the waitress brought cakes (NO extra cream!), we realized that it was not the cake we wanted and asked for it to be replaced. She came back soon with the same almond cake and she said she COULD NOT replace the order which had been booked to the cashier (??). Then she wanted to charge the order INSTANTLY because there are just two waitress in cafe (??). When we asked for ashtray (we were sitting outside in beautiful atrium (!), she said ok but DID NOT bring it.
Besides, toilet is dirty, paper towels all around cans and on the floor and the whole cafe need to be cleaned and renewed. Shortly, It was completely disappointed. Cafe Livadic WAS a cult place in Samobor. PAST TENSE :(

It is safe in Slovenia and Croatia. Lots of US citizens in Croatia lately. Samobor is beautiful and peacefull. There is no problem to go around with car rental, taxi (some taxis are really cheap) or on tour vith travel agencies. I believe you will be satisfied when you visit.
Hello lurasf,
yes we have parking, and the daily price is 5 euro. Thank you Ivan G. for your answer!
Sincerely,
