We went out for a dinner at this lovely restaurant. It has a very nice terrace, good food and excellent service. Our waiter Tomislav was very charming and friendly :) and provided us with good service. Thank you, we will come again.
We brought two groups to Hotel Kastel for dinner in June. Our server Tomislav was fantastic. He took great care of us, was charming and delightful. Our various dietary needs were accommodated and the food was stunning. Great atmosphere and service.
The Kastel Hotel takes up most of the top of the mountain at Motovun. It is made by connecting several buildings to provide the checkin area, offices, a restaurant (the Palladio) and a breakfast buffet area, the bar, a rear deck area and enclosed pool, and of course the accommodation rooms over several floors. While we did not use it, there is also apparently a spa. There is also a front patio extension of the restaurant where if you are lucky, you can claim a table from which to watch the sunset. And if you are staying at the hotel, the restaurant provides a 10% discount. There is also a connecting shop selling wines, liquors/brandies, and condiments, which provides free tasting of the culinary and libationary delights of Istria. On arrival, we walked up the hill on the stone paved roadway and were greeted by hotel staff with water, wine, bread, cheeses and condiments, while our rooms were arranged. Our luggage was driven up by a small SUV, which also will transport those who have trouble negotiating the hill. A similar transport service was provided when we checked out. Our room was very large with two beds, a large bathroom and large shower, a foyer with plenty of storage space and a safe. With tile floors it was very clean, but a bit cold requiring tinkering with the thermostat. Our windows opened onto a alley between the hotel and the church and we could listen to the choir practice and they were very good. To close off the light there were gutters and darkening curtains. Our first night, we ate down the hill at the Entobutija restaurant which has one of the best sunset views; it really was beautiful. But we had our dessert of a chocolate soufflé, brandies and tea on the hotel patio, and it was delightful. I would strongly recommend the Kastel whenever you are staying in the vicinity.…
We have a lunch in these hotel and we can tell taj food is nice as also staff was friendly and helpful to give you all information about food and hotel information.Perfect presentation of the hotel from our host Tomislav and details what and when is the best period to visit Motovun. I recommend these place for visiting and if you like traditional Istrian food this is right place to try.
Excellent location, friendly staff, very good breakfast, perfect terrace for breakfast or dinner, and nice pool. We really enjoyed our weekend and will come back for sure. You can visit many interesting places in Istria or just enjoy Motovun, walking, tasting wine, and liqueurs in local wineries from this hotel.
my dad was born in Motovun and in recent years when we come back we always stay at the Kastel hotel. Always delicious and comfortable. I hope to come back soon! The rooms are spotless and the staff are friendly and helpful. Those who drive the car that carries luggage and older people to the top are always very kind!
My husband and I had a fabulous experience staying at the Hotel Kastel in Motovun in early October 2021. We parked below in the church parking lot and were met by the very friendly driver who skillfully drove us to the top. When we arrived at the hotel desk, a young woman was dealing with another guest who was complaining vociferously about the lack of a view from his window. To her credit, she appeased the guest and by way of apologizing to us, booked us into a larger room with a view. We had arrived later in the evening but were still able to enjoy a wonderful meal with freshly shaved truffles on the outdoor patio, with lots of local wine and blankets. Our two night, three day stay was wonderful! The hotel is graciously appointed, the breakfasts are delicious and plentiful, and the staff is lovely and responsive. Motovun is a magical place and served as a central point from which we explored the richness of the Istrian Peninsula, from Pula to Grožnjan.…
Our recent stay at Hotel Kastel could not have been better. Check in was quick and efficient and our room was ready ahead of schedule. A very large room with plenty of plugs for phone, Ipad, etc. Dinner in the dining room was delicious. Staff made suggestions and assisted us in picking out a unique meal. Great selection for breakfast as well. They were informative and helpful. We arranged with the hotel to take us to a wine tasting and they readily accommodated us. Hotel is clean, on the top of the hill and easily walkable to other restaurants, shops and bars. Would highly recommend when in Motovun.
The scenery is breathtaking, the rooms beautifully designed, comfortable and clean. But, what makes this place truly special is the people who work there! We have never experienced such service anywhere else. They are exceptional! We have stayed at Hotel Kastel twice now, once for a night in 2018 and again for 5 when we returned for our daughter’s wedding in 2021. Both times we were treated as royalty. It is obvious that those who work there love and take pride in what they do. They are warm and welcoming from the moment you step in the door. As a wedding venue it must be one of the most picturesque places in the world. The wedding planner Erika and Tomislav who supervises the waiting staff went out of their way to make sure that every detail was perfect. They and their colleagues were hustling and smiling when we went to bed after the reception at 2:30 and were still hustling and smiling when we came down for breakfast in the morning! It was almost like a scene from a movie! We asked them if they ever slept! All of the wedding guests had a wonderful time! It was an experience of a lifetime and very affordable.…
Motovun is amazing and the hotel is spot on at the top. It is small but well kept. On arrival they come to pick you up with your bags so you do t have to carry them around through the cobbled streets. The family room is very comfortable with stunning views. It is quiet at night. Breakfast is good, coffee could be better. The restaurant is ideally located on a square, under the shade of chestnuts trees. Staff is super nice and helpful. Clean rooms. Cute swimming pool. Good spa massage. All for a decent price.
