The Valamar Meteor Hotel enjoys accolades for its excellent location, mere steps from the beach and local attractions, making it a hit among guests seeking convenience. Many visitors appreciate the spotless rooms and commendable service, with staff members receiving particular praise for their attentiveness.
While the hotel's tranquil atmosphere and family-friendly amenities, including pristine pools and evening entertainment, contribute to an enjoyable stay, some travelers feel the room sizes and amenities, such as outdated bathrooms, do not fully justify the cost.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the hotel in June 2022 for 10 days. Our room on the 1st floor was excellent. The bathroom had a very tall bath, and we found it difficult to get in and out of. We mentioned this after first entering our room, to find out that there are only 2 rooms in the hotel with a shower in them. They found us a crate to use to get into the bath, this proved to be dangerous to use. I found a baby step under our sink which proved useful for the rest of our stay. Having said that the bed was comfortable and the balcony outside was quite large and had two chairs and a table which we used quite often. There were a lot of younger children in the hotel, and they have facilities for them, including a club. They did not spoil our holiday at all and we interacted with them and parents very well indeed. The indoor pool is superb, although there are goal posts and other objects floating in it, presumably for children to use. The pool is the same depth all over too deep for no swimmers, and is chlorinated. The outdoor pool is saltwater, but only approachable by a range of concrete steps that my wife cannot manage. Towels were supplied for swims by the Spa, and the people in there were friendly. The restaurant has several large cooking areas, and at breakfast time they had one producing omelettes to order. One producing bacon and fried eggs. Tina, Mia and Katrina were among the many cooks on duty, and were very friendly and quick cooking omelettes. I did notice that all cooks rotated around duties from time to time. We also loved the doughnuts that were put out. Breakfast was a grand affair with plenty of fruit, cakes, cooked produce, yogurts, cereals etc! In the evening the variety of food is extensive as well. The juices are free of charge in the evening and for breakfast. The coffee machine produced excellent drinks and were free in the morning and evening. I had pork, chicken, a variety of fish to eat with some vegetables but a variety of salad during my stay. The restaurant manager Michael was very good at his job, and friendly, so was Ines who is charge of the bar and Smoothies. The location right by the beach is superb, they charge to use the sun-loungers, but there are plenty of benches along the long promenade that run in front of the hotel and along the Riviera there. The wi fi was not particularly strong in the room, and varied from medium to no signal at times.. Overall, with only a few reservations an excellent hotel with friendly staff , which led to us having a memorable holiday. The location is excellent with plenty of eating places nearby. A slightly longer walk gets you into the pretty town and harbour of Makarska. I would have liked to put some pictures to this review but for some reason Trip Advisor's site will not let me on this occasion,

Arrived at the hotel early was told the room wasn’t ready which we guessed anyway, my partner who is disabled explained at reception that he could not get into a bath and that he would need a shower, they were so accommodating they only had two rooms with showers in so we were given one on the first floor which was ready. We found the room ok it was very small but the bathroom was huge as it was a disabled bathroom. You had to walk round the bed to open balcony doors, balcony small but enough room if you wanted to sit out there, we left our empty cases there as was no room for them anywhere else, bed was comfy and huge, pillows were feather so were soft and comfortable, not much storage space but we made do. The food was very good, something to eat at all meals even if your fussy the salads were good, the fresh bread daily was nice and so much choice can’t fault the restaurant. Pool not as big as I would have thought it did get very crowded but the water was warm not deep so safe for children, struggled some days to find a sunbed but they had bean bags to lay on as well . The beach was very crowded so didn’t go in it, Can’t comment on entertainment as that’s not our thing. Went on a few trips booked through the agent at the hotel she was lovely and very helpful, the lady that cleaned our room was great really helpful when we had a few problems, reception staff were all friendly and helpful, couldn’t fault any of the staff, I had a manicure and my nails done in the spa the young lady that did them was really nice very friendly and chatty. All in all a fantastic holiday brilliant weather wish we would have found croatia years ago as there is so much to do and see

We stayed at this hotel in June, so just before peak season so keep in mind that it may be busier during July/August when reading this review.
Hotel
The hotel was really clean and very lovely. Our room was really nice but we had a connecting door and it was so loud you could hear the people next door speaking so we asked to move and the staff were really helpful and moved us to another room.
There are lots of sunbeds and places to sit outside. In most hotels I've been to sunbeds are reserved so early around 6am but in this hotel you could still get a sunbed up to about 10am.
The pool is really nice it is an infinity pool that overlooks the beach. It's probably about 5 steps from the hotel to the beach which is great.
There is a concierge in the hotel that can help you plan trips and give you info on the area. The staff were all really friendly and helpful :)
The only thing I would say is don't eat in the snack bar by the pool, it isn't great and there are lots of food spaces right outside the hotel.
Location
The hotel is in the middleish of the Markarska Riviera there are so many bars/restaurants around the hotel.
There is a little train you can get from the kids park which is a 5 min walk and it takes you right along the Riviera to really lovely beaches and restaurants. It is 50Kuna return which is a really good price.
We took a day trip to split which was 10Kuna each for the bus and took 1hr20. The hotel is really close to the bus station so you can go to Split/Dubrovnik.
It is really difficult to get to Brac/Hvar from Makarska so if you want to go there we were recommended to go to Split first or take an excursion all day trip.
Makarsha old town is a 10 min walk and it has some lovely place to eat and is really beautiful!
Food
The places we really enjoyed eating were:
La Pentola Trattoria Makarska (the hotel restaurant next door)
The Lemon Garden Charcoal Grill
Stari Miln (old town)
Spina bar (old town)
Kocha Beach Bar
Jeti Fritule donuts (old town)
There are some comments about this being a family hotel with kids screaming everywhere. We are a couple and although there were children we didn't find it an issue at all. There is a mix of couples and families at the hotel and the kids pool etc is separate.
We really enjoyed this holiday and would definitely come back :).

My partner and I stayed here for a week in June. I will try and make this review balanced as I realise people’s standards and expectations are different. Firstly, this area of Croatia is lovely. It is so clean, the people on the whole are friendly and we had some nice food. The sea is freezing but crystal clear. You definitely need sea shoes though as every beach is stoney as is the sea.
The hotel is clean and modern. Unfortunately for us, we do like a bit of peace when we’re away, but sadly there was none here. The hotel was packed with babies and young children running around everywhere, generally screaming and making a nuisance of themselves. In the foyer of the hotel near the bar, there is a table tennis table. In addition there are tricycles for the kids to ride round around on inside, literally all day and night. Really?! So no peace there. Clearly this hotel wants to attract the family market, it is not a place for a quiet romantic getaway, unless you literally use it as a place to sleep.
On to the food. We took the half board option but wish we hadn’t. We ate out 5 out of the 7 nights. Breakfast is good with a huge choice. Buffet style of course, as is the dinner. The food was generally cold though, which was a shame. The warming trays just didn’t really work, so everything was tepid at best. The restaurant is very bright and has no atmosphere on an evening whatsoever. It’s very canteen like and that’s why we preferred to eat out. And incredibly noisy with the millions of children there. It felt like there wasn’t enough staff on some days as they couldn’t clear the tables quick enough and you had to flag someone down to get cutlery. The other thing we found odd was that the bar closed at 11pm. There is a nice outside terrace here where they had live music most nights. On the few evenings we sat out here, the staff were literally cleaning up around you and even though we had full glasses, our candle was promptly removed at 11!
The rooms are a little on the small side and basic, but very comfortable beds and pillows with nice towels changed every day.
On the day before check out I asked if we could keep our room for an extra 2 hours on our last day. It was a resounding ‘no’. Unless I wanted to part with 100 euros, which I didn’t!
In summary, this hotel was not for us at all, but we would definitely come back to this area and stay in an apartment.

My husband and I stayed at the Meteor for 10 nights booked through TUI from 3 September. Meteor hotel is a fantastic Hotel, very clean, both in the rooms and all communal areas. We received complementary half board from TUI, food at breakfast and evening meal was first class, with so much choice, top quality fresh food . The infinity pool is beautiful, although busy area, however plenty of other sun terraces to use and of course miles and miles of beach on the door step. The waiter service on the terrace during the evening is excellent. I celebrated my birthday whilst on holiday and meteor left a bottle of wine and card in my room, such a lovely thought . We will definitely return and stay at meteor, it is an outstanding Hotel.

I have only good things to say. This hotel is a mix of city style with family friendly vibe. I don’t have children but was impressed at the facilities available for children and the changing stations that had free nappies, there was even a child size toilet for the little ones.
Our room was small but perfect, bed was very comfortable and the linen was crisp and cool. Only thing that bothered me was not being able to turn the air con lower than 22 degrees. The room was refreshed every day as you would expect but it was still nice to come back to the room after a hard day by the lovely pool and find your bed made.
The pool is lovely and you can look over the edge and watch the world go by. There are some trees that provide a little shade over the pool. Hotel is close to the beach and also the hotel has sunbeds you can hire there. Beach towels are provided which is a great service.
The pool team at the pool bar were utter sweethearts and nothing was too much trouble for them, special shout-out to Luka and matija (sp? ) who were so helpful. Luka made a booking at a local restaurant for us. And matija was so lovely to deal with.
Hotel bar was nice although closed at 11pm and the cocktails are no more expensive than anywhere else.
We were B and B breakfast was lovely and plentiful. I am vegan and had no problems. Amazing fresh fruit (figs and plums especially) salad and melon. Cooked breakfast available if that is your thing. Really good breakfast apart from the juice, it is syrupy so whether it is concentrate I don’t know.
I had a couple of treatments at the spa which was nice.
Overall I totally recommend this hotel and I will be returning in the near future.

We stayed here for a week and whilst it is a fantastic hotel we must agree with a previous post by saying that this hotel is really geared for young families but not for couples. We originally booked this 3 years ago but due to covid we were unable to visit until this year and obviously things have changed since our booking was made.
Our room was lovely on the 4th floor although the bathroom was a bit dated. All the staff we met were great.
However the hotel was full of very young children and babies which hardly made for a relaxing stay. The pool area was overrun with children running around and very noisy. The reception area was half given over to a table tennis table and half to young children riding bikes, playing football etc.
The infinity pool was great but meant that only a few sun beds were able to sit around the pool. The rest were in rows behind on a sun terrace.
The beach was fantastic but we were surprised to learn that even though we were on meteor beach, using meteor beach towels and manned by meteor beach staff we had to pay 50kuna per bed each day. Surely at least a discount to hotel guests could have been given.
We enjoyed our breakfasts and the quality and choice of food was excellent. However we were glad not to have taken the dinner option as it was hardly a place for relaxing over a evening meal.
We did eat one night at the Italian restaurant which was great and we were surprised to be told that we were entitled to 10% discount for being hotel guests. Nowhere was this advertised in the hotel. In fact we weren’t given any literature at all about the hotel .
We really enjoyed our holiday but wouldn’t stay here again as it is really aimed at young families. In fact the hotel is currently building another pool and sunbathing area for babies.

This hotel is amazing!
The staff are well trained and very helpful. The food is excellent and there’s so much to choose from. The bedrooms are stylish and clean; a kettle, tea and coffee etc. are provided; there is also a fridge and hairdryer. If you have children, there’s a childrens club and in reception, there are small bikes, table football, soft play, table tennis and a pool table, yet, it’s usually quiet in the reception area. There is also a bar area and on the weekend evenings, there were bands on to entertain everyone. Outside, there are lots of places to sit with a beer, coffee or just to sunbathe. I didn’t try any treatments in the spa but the pool was lovely and the sauna is free to use. We were there over Easter; on Good Friday, when we returned to our room, we found a loaf of sweet bread had been left for us and when we checked out, we were given a bar of chocolate…plus, 2 wonderful breakfast boxes because we were leaving before the restaurant opened, don’t think that’s ever happened before!
The hotel is situated virtually on the beach and not too far from the town centre so there’s always somewhere to walk right on your doorstep, you can also hire bikes from the hotel. There is a good childrens playground further along the seafront. Makarska is situated about a seventy five minute bus ride from Split and about two and a half hours drive from Dubrovnik. The hotel is a short walk away from the bus station.

+1
We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and absolutely loved it. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful, there is a lovely atmosphere and the hotel is very bright and clean. It has so many facilities- there are pool tables, a games room including PlayStations, entertainment on an evening and a gorgeous bar with tasty cocktails. The hotel will give you towels to use on the beach or the sun beds, there a lots of sun beds both on the beach and by the pool. The hotel is beachfront and less than a minute walk. It is so scenic and beautiful, we are so glad we chose this hotel as we loved the location, the style of the hotel and the views from our room. Our bed was very comfy and our balcony faced the sea. We enjoyed the food and there is a large range of choices every night. The croissants and fruit were amazing- especially the watermelon! We would 100% stay again. It is not overcrowded and has a separate pool/ play area for children so it is suitable for both families and couples. The location is perfect for excursions, walks and ice cream! There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops but it is not noisy. Our holiday had plenty to do; lots of historic buildings and statues to look at, idyllic beaches, forest walks, hikes and views of the mountains.

We booked this just over a week prior to our arrival. We stayed in a fabulous family room, interconnected so perfect for parents and two teenagers. Everything about the hotel is superb from checking in to checking out. The staff are all polite, welcoming and hardworking to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. This includes reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff. Like o may others have said, the hotel is modern, clean and has excellent facilities. We really liked the sauna and huge indoor pool. We didn't try the lovely looking infinity pool as we couldn't resist the sea, even at this time of year.
The weather was just perfect, but had it not been there are enough facilities and space around the hotel to pass the time.
I am being extremely picky as it wasn't really a problem and it would not be easy to rectify but the bathrooms are a little small, especially the shower. However, it all functions well and is spotlessly clean.
I would have liked to have seen face masks being encouraged more proactively. Lots of guests did not wear them even though there are signs requesting them to do so. Restaurant staff rarely wore a mask that covered both their mouth and nose together so there was little point in them wearing one at all.
We were amazed by this hotel, Makarska and Croatia itself. It was our first visit here but would love to return one day, perhaps as part of a road trip to discover more of this wonderful country. It truly is a special place. Hvala!

Hi, the hair dryers aren’t powerful. They are attached to the wall in the bathroom. It was were okay for me, having fine straight hair. You might want to take your own. Have a fabulous holiday
Very similar the to prices in the UK, there are cheaper places out and about, however I would also add that the draft beer (lager type) was always flat
