Stayed here with my sister in a private room and had a lovely time. Very affordable and the woman who runs it is just delightful. She'll even give you free homemade apple brandy when you first arrive. Clean rooms, comfy bed, very close to everything.

We stayed here for a night in June. The hostel is a really good price and we had a double room with private bathroom (ended up having an apartment to ourselves), really good location and lovely and quiet. Only downfall was that the hot water did not last long in the shower. Great place

We stayed here for six nights in the twin room with a shared bathroom, which is located next to the dorm and opens out onto the outdoor kitchen. We shared 2 great bathrooms - both were fab and regularly cleaned - never had to wait for a shower, and the water was always hot no matter the time of day. The outdoor cooking area was great - basic, but awesome with 2 gas camping rings, a bbq, a kettle a large fridge, table and chairs and lots of cooking equipment - was great and we cooked every night here. Was great to meet people from the dorm - who stayed maybe 2/3 nights so we saw lots of people come and go ... Of all different nationalities. We arrived early and were able to leave our luggage for 2 hours before coming back to check in - they were lovely and welcoming and spent 1/2 an hour showing us a map and telling us places to go and things to see during our stay - was great help.
One recommendation which they told us to do was to walk to Nugal Beach, around 40 minutes walk south of Makarska. The walk was truly beautiful - a shaded path through a wood, yet with a sea view the whole way. The beach was nudist - yet half the people were not... So you may choose to participate. Well worth it - beautiful, not too crowded, great snorkelling and gorgeous crystal clear sea. Another favourite bathing area was on the peninsula round the harbour, where rocks make a lovely comfortable sun bed.
A gorgeous hostel dog, Athena, kept us company too during our 6 days. Demanding lots of cuddles and attention, and was great fun to play in the garden with. A gorgeous half shaded garden with a hammock and several benches meant that you could relax at the hostel, if maybe the beach wasn't for you.
We loved our time here at hostel makarska and would recommend to anyone. Thanks so much for our stay... We miss it (and Athena) already!

This hostel provides very old pillows and matresses. The kitchen consists of an old fridge, 2 plates, 1 fork and 1 electric stove. There are bed bugs in the room. I sent 2 messages (one email, one on facebook) and never received a answer. There was no booking for me when I arrived,

The staff is great and really friendly, they invited us to a shot of homemade brandy after our arrival.
The location of the hostel is optimal, 5 minutes from the bus station and 5 minutes to the town's centre and harbour. You can find some nice beaches walking less than 10 minutes. We stayed at the 10 bed shared room and even if it's small and it can get quite crowded the atmosphere was relaxed and nice. Until here everything was great.
The main problem we had was that they said they had a kitchen which in a sense is true, but it would be better to talk about a kitchenette, worse of all is it's situated outside the shared room, in a porch, a small one to boot. So there isn't a lot of space to cook. Also, the lights on the outdoor tables weren't working so there wasn't a lot of space to sit, talk and eat.
Even with all that, I'm giving it a 3/5 because of its location but mostly because of the staff which was great and Athena the dog, who always came to say hi or goodbye.

Initially we booked just one night (private room + terrace) but we ended up staying two as the place was pretty good as well as the town. The family who runs the place is quite friendly and they have a lovely dog in the patio (Atena). The BBQ facility is one of the best I have ever used. It is really close to the centre and the beach and has free parking. It wasn't the typical atmosphere of European hostel full of young people keen to party, which sometimes is good, but this time we wanted something more relaxing and this place was perfect for that.

By mistake, I booked and paid for a single room with a bathroom from September 16th to 20th and arrived at the hostel on the same dates in August. I asked the host if I could get anything available since I had already paid 182 euros and could add more according to current prices. He said there's an available bed in a dormitory for 49 euros per day and that, according to him, it would be humane to compensate the price of the 182 euros that was already paid for 4 days, plus an additional amount based on current prices, but he needed to confirm with the manager. The manager said she couldn't agree and that I would have to pay an additional 100 euros if I wanted to stay at the hostel, on top of the 182 euros I had already paid. A typical example of greed at any cost, where profit matters exclusively and not humanity. Recommendation to avoid the location.

Man have I ever felt such a bad, toxic energy in someone's house! You get a feeling that you're in an active bomb, ready to explode. Children of some antipatic older guy staying there, yelling and throwing rocks at the poor dog and chasing cats all day long and that beautiful dog seems like the only positive figure out there! The guy with children was yelling like crazy in his mother tongue. At his wife? I got a feeling that he has issues of some kind, completely out of balance. I wanted to run away from there, believe me, it's a toxic place. Please if you're sensitive, emotional person or an animal lover stay away from this chaotic hostel or call an animal shelter to save those poor souls!

Excellent place! Stayed for one night and loved it. The location is just perfect, only one minute to the old town and few minutes to the seaside. Super clean and the staff was very welcoming and friendly, especially the dogs. :) Rooms are spacious, stylish and have balcony. Would definitely come back!

This place evoked moments of insanity as the owner: an older woman hoovered the other building in the wee hours of the morning and God knows what was in her head to make such a racket. (other guests disclosed this to myself and a few others as I left) There was some horrible endless bickering in their mother tongue with the old lady and some crazy bloke (I'd hazard a guess this was her son). Some wee lad stood by dumbstruck as this was ongoing. This is absolutely the most disgustingly impolite place I have been a paying guest, Never again. This is far from a peaceful place any vacationer would want. Don't waste your time or money.
