Stayed for one week as part of Tui package. The hotel is in a great location only a short walk form the old town of Lovran, which a small town which has a lived in feel about it. There is a bus stop within 50 metres of the hotel where you could catch a bus to Optajia (30 mins) The rooms were of a very good size and had both a bath and a shower, we paid for a sea view and had a balcony with fantastic views over the sea. The room had a fridge and a easy to use safe as well as air conditioning. The room was spotlessly clean as was the hotel in general. Both breakfast and evening meal were taken at the hotel, breakfast was very good with many different items all were of good quality . Evening meal was also very good with a lot of variation and each time had several meat and fish options as well as a local option. A special word for our waiter-Oggen who was very polite and attentive , a real credit to the hotel. A good hotel with good staff.

We arrived for a weeks holiday on the 8th July. Was disappointed on arrival at 12pm to be informed check in was at 2pm so we would need to come back later, but they did store our cases which we were pleased about. So hotel itself is ok, location is good, some great views from the restaurant whilst having breakfast or dinner. Breakfast was served 7-10 and had everything you could want, cooked breakfast, pastries, cereal, fruit you name it, what was good to you could help yourselves to drinks free of charge, fresh juices or coffees and even syrups to add. Dinner was 7-9pm and again can’t fault the food at all. Always multiple meat options, lots of salads, pasta, pizza, a full range. Unlike breakfast though you had to pay for your drinks and they aren’t that cheap. We headed to the local supermarket 500m away from the hotel and brought everything we needed at a much cheaper rate (also made a picnic daily for lunch) hotel room was pretty standard, no iron, but has a hairdryer and body wash is provided. Air con was great, and room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels. We used the gym every day and the spa which as fab, only frustrating thing is that they don’t open till 8am, so we would run in the mornings. The views are well worth it. The indoor pool is salt water, unsure on the outside pool as we didn’t use it. We would head out to the beached area (stones/rocks) and sunbathe there. Top tip get up early to get yourself a bed, I was up every morning at 6am to read and got 2 beds. The location of the hotel as previously mentioned is so beautiful, lots of places to walk. If you are feeling adventurous then we climbed mountain UCKA and the views at the top are well worth it, but take lots of water, and some parts are very steep. Only downside to the location of this hotel is the fact the pool area and most of the hotel has lost the sun by 3/4pm at the latest, but had sun for breakfast at 7. The staff seemed friendly but we didn’t spend too much time in the hotel. There are a lot of stairs so please be aware of this, 2 lifts that every man and dog want to use all the time. You can occasionally hear dogs barking as they are allowed in the hotel. But on the whole, a good hotel, great food and lovely location (minus the sun disappearing early doors) would I return, yes to the area and probs yes to the hotel. Wouldn’t say it’s 4 stars though. 3.5 at best. Nearly forgot, if you want to travel anywhere to other beaches etc and don’t want to walk, the bus stop is directly outside the hotel. Number 32 bus is what you need.

The Excelsior is a modern hotel with great public indoor and outdoor spaces and three pools (one inside). Our room (902) was spacious and comfortable, immediately off the lobby/reception. It was easily found on the main road through Lovran opposite a petrol station. More importantly, behind the petrol station was an area of free parking, which the hotel kindly directed us to. Parking outside the hotel was a manageable 15 Euros a night or 18 Euros in their garage. As we arrived on a Sunday, made busier by the annual Chestnut Festival, we did park outside on first evening but there was plenty of spaces after the weekend. First evening we dined in the very spacious restaurant-a bounteous buffet at 19 Euros a head-so very good value. As it is a large hotel we were not surprised to find a number of coach tours as fellow guests but this did make the restaurants busier and not so peaceful or relaxing. We very much enjoyed the access to the seaside paths below the hotel, with short 10 minute walk to the center of Lovran but we also enjoyed a 12 kilometer walk to and from Opatija along the "lungomare". Breakfast offered plenty of choice and excellent range of food of all kinds, included in our very reasonable nightly price of room. The coach tours which seemed to operate daily meant meal times were very busy. I am not sure all the guests would have appreciated the Liburnia Hotel's hospitality function (presumably for the travel trade) held poolside in Monday evening which seemed to start about 6.30 pm and went on somewhat nosily until close to 11 pm

Great location with direct access to the Lungomare the lovely flat promenade along the beautiful Istrian coast to Opatija. Rooms were basic but comfortable, our balcony overlooked the front of the hotel so our view was a petrol station rather than the sea, but the front gets the late afternoon sun. No luxury touches but we did have a kettle which is provided only for UK tour groups. The room was unbearably hot our group received several explanations for this but essentially, the temperature and aircon is centrally controlled particularly in the low season. Too noisy to leave balcony door open.
We were half board - food was surprisingly good, lots of choice combining international and local dishes, great ice cream and bread. Only negative for us was lack of salad dressing (only oil & vinegar) and wine is pricy. Plus they don't provide tap water even though it's perfectly safe to drink. There are smokers in Croatia than we're used to and while balcony is split wish ashtrays on the right hand tables locals see nothing wrong with moving next to people who are eating, so we didn't eat outside even though the weather was nice. Staff will put room number on wine bottles so you can drink it over two days, and they remember you and what you like. We often bought wine and snacks in local supermarkets and sat on room balcony rather than drinking in the bar, so reducing their prices would get them more customers. Shots of the local flavoured schnapps were only €3 and are worth a try. Staff are lovely - friendly and efficient. A great base for exploring the area.

This is a friendly and comfortable hotel, within easy reach of Lovran village and a pleasant coastal walk away from Opatija. I went with Just You Holidays for solo travellers and so was part of a fairly large group. My room was a good size, included a fridge with minibar and also a kettle (no tea or coffee provided). The bathroom was fine, with shower over bath. I had paid extra for a sea view, and was very glad I’d done so, as it was lovely to sit on my balcony looking at the sea. I got beautiful sunrises every morning. The rooms facing the road would have quite a bit of traffic noise and fumes, whereas I was able to keep my balcony doors open all the time. My only criticism about the bedroom is that the carpet is worn and in need of a clean. Otherwise, everything was spotless. There are 3 pools: 2 outdoor and one inside, also a wellness centre and gym which I didn’t use. The adult pool outside was salt water, which I liked. Plenty of sunbeds around the pools and in the garden, but that side of the hotel is in the shade from mid-afternoon. The beach to the left of the hotel, 5 minutes walk away, stayed sunnier for longer and personally I enjoyed swimming in the sea. It’s pebbly, so take or buy water shoes. The water is wonderfully clear and clean. Breakfast was good, with an excellent variety of foods. The dinners were ok, nice salads, but not much hot food choice for vegetarians. Plenty of fish. It was pretty standard package holiday hotel fare. Some of us went out to the harbour a couple of evenings, just for the joy of eating by the water and having waiter service! I would definitely return if staying in this part of Croatia, and I hope to explore more of that beautiful country.

This is the second visit to this hotel, I did not review it the first time I visited. Reason for revisit was the excellent indoor pool, weather in September can be a bit iffy in Croatia so this is why we chose this hotel for a second visit. The hotel, not sure if just the time of year or whether it is year round, is geared for coach parties which makes for a quiet hotel during the day time. The hotel is clean, staff are friendly, dining experience was better than last year, much improved, pizza was the best I have tasted and my go to most nights. The thing that could be improved on is the price of a bottle of wine in the dining room, far to expensive although we did partake a bottle or two but looking around the dining room most people were only drinking water, was this because they were tea total or was it the price of the wine!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do stay at this hotel I would recommend a sea view as the hotel is on a busy road so can be noisy at night, that said we did have a road side room last year and did not find it too noisy but I know for some guests this was a problem. The hotel is nicely situated in Lovran, although Lovran is only a small town, the costal path to Opatija is well worth a walk. Buses run outside the hotel taking you to Opatija and further on to the city of Rijeka, both worth a visit. Our second visit, will we have a third, the answer will probably be yes. The staff are brilliant and very polite. We had a half-board and stayed in a family room (two connected rooms), very spacious and clean. Food at the restaurant was excellent, both for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is on excellent location, you can easily go walking by the coast all the way to the city of Opatija, or take a short bus/car ride. I'm not sure for the parking during the high season, but in November there were plenty of free parking spaces around (parking in Lovran is free).

Nice Hotel as per previous reviews. Rooms spacious and clean and well Maintained. Great air con. We did take a travel kettle so could make hot drinks, and popped to the supermarket 10 mins walk away as previously recommended. Notes: there are hidden toilets on same floor as restaurant to the left of the lift. The stairs to the sea are opposite the pool, inside the hotel grounds. Buffet style breakfasts grew boring after a week as hot options were not to my liking oily eggs, fake hotdog style sausages and crispy/burnt streaky bacon. But dinners were very varied everyday and absolutely delicious. Getting a drink served at dinner time was slow. Staff were lovely but maybe needed more? That’s just a little constructive critique because overall It was super. Thank you.

Yes there are several cafes along the scenic pathway to enjoy.
We only walked a coupe of Kilometres and this path stretches approximately ten Kilometres, so I would expect there are quite a few more.

We were a little disappointed that there were no tea making facilities in the room but the kind lady at reception said they could provide what she said was a hot water "boiler"
Pool towels aren't supplied. The rest I don't know (always ate out in the evening, but from what I saw I don't believe long trousers are mandatory). Best regards.
There are more places to choose from in the Lovran area.
