I am pretty forgiving when comes to hotels... They stuck us in the room that I can only define as the basement of the hotel... The room was nice and seemed to be a new addition to the hotel, but believe it or not the bathroom would flood when we took even a quick shower and it wasn’t because the drain was clogged, the slant of the shower was done wrong so the water drained towards the room and not the drain... My advice, spend the extra money and stay at the Elizabeth Palace...

The actual hotel is quite mediocre and probably a 2.5 star experience but what really makes me not recommend this hotel is the price. When I first arrived in my room we were not greeted with a complimentary bottle of water but instead a small table that said We had to pay 5.50 euros for a regular bottle of water and a small selection of cans of snacks that you could easily fit in your mouth priced at 5.50 euro... The food at the poolside bar was mediocre and extremely expensive and mediocre... The Splash bar by the seaside was also very expensive... I spent 40 euro on a 1 course 1 bottle of water lunch for two which was very mediocre... When we came to check out they charged us €140 for this laundry... This is absolutely ridiculous and an extortionate amount of money... It is clear that they have a monopoly in the hotel business on hvar (they own seven hotels on the Island) and know that they can charge what they want... A four star hotel does not charge 140 euros for laundry...

It’s important to realise this hotel is a vast resort, and they prioritise quantity over quality at every opportunity... Rooms are also absolutely tiny (even with our supposed upgrade)... The burger I had around the pool was like a burnt hockey puck... Sunbeds on the beach - a representative of the hotel tried to charge us €15 per person to use them (note, this section and the beds are owned by the hotel)... We told him Absolutely not, and to be fair he backed down almost instantaneously... But the idea you could spend over £2k for 5 nights and they’re still trying to charge you extra for a sunbed, it leaves a bad taste... Paid €85 for a poor Thai massage... The main spa is located in the sister hotel, and they’ll charge you an extortionate €65 if you want to visit it... Overall, we felt extremely ripped off by this place... They’re charging 5 star prices for a 2 star experience...

...Breakfast, Pool bar and lobby restaurant was excellent and fairly priced also - I would recommend staying away from the buffet restaurant and there is not a great selection and the quality isn't great... In addition to that, while the hotel bar is reasonably priced (for Hvar) it's worth noting that the water left in the rooms each day is not free and will be added to your bill at the end of the week...

...I’d definitely recommend this hotel, but it could be even better with a few small improvements: (1) providing proper, fresh orange juice and proper (freshly ground) espresso/cappuccino at breakfast; (2) stopping people vaping in the pool and limiting drinking to particular areas (eg by the bar) to make it more family friendly; (3) clearing away used glasses from around the edge of the pool more frequently (acting on point 2 above, would make this easier); (4) freshening up/renovating the decor (inside and out) in a few places (nothing major); (5) providing free use of the sun loungers on the beach...

...When I first arrived in my room we were not greeted with a complimentary bottle of water but instead a small table that said We had to pay 5.50 euros for a regular bottle of water and a small selection of cans of snacks that you could easily fit in your mouth priced at 5.50 euro... Whilst we were there we had 4 days of laundry done for us by the hotel... When we came to check out they charged us €140 for this laundry...

What an amazing hotel, really can’t commend them enough. We arrived a day early due to messing up our travel dates and they sorted a room for us with no problem and then when we want to swap rooms because of travel distance with our baby buggy, they also sorted this without question... Service round the pool was really excellent (especially Ivan the waiter), always happy to assist and deliver whatever you wanted so it was possible to really relax on holiday...

...We travelled over for a family wedding and the staff were so hospitable and made the trip an absolute pleasure. The rooms were very spacious, meticulously cleaned each day and AC was out of this world (and very needed throughout a week stay!)... Breakfast, Pool bar and lobby restaurant was excellent and fairly priced also - I would recommend staying away from the buffet restaurant and there is not a great selection and the quality isn't great...

Elio and the entire staff of this hotel are top notch. Truly some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced... They were always there to help, let us switch rooms, they let us have a very very late checkout to accommodate our ferry time... They even helped us switch our ferry!... They also are sister resorts to all of the other hotels on the island so they can help with reservations and spa services...

...The staff greeted us as we got off the ferry and took our luggage up to the hotel for us... They also took it back to the harbour when we made our return journey... But the pool area is fabulous and all staff from reception to bar and restaurant staff were very helpful... We sent it back and the brought us a fresh meal but we didn't send it back again we just ate it fast and discovered the bit in the middle was hot...

...The beach was absolutely gorgeous and we spent a lot of our time down there. I would say they need to make clear that sunbeds aren’t free on the actual amfora beach and not even subsidised for hotel guests... It was a very clean hotel though and the rooms were lovely... Location was really good a nice 10 min stroll into town and it was a stunning walk...

...You can't even make a coffee in your room... The towels are thin as paper and have the size of a napkin... They promote the hotel to be a beach hotel but you have to pay an additional 15€ per sunbed at the beach... If you take 2 you are entitled to have one umbrella that gives you enough shade for half a sunbed... The pool is as deep as a bathtub and is too small for the amount of people in the hotel...

...We had a family room which was spacious and notably the air conditioning was very effective. The room seemed well sound proofed, and we didn’t hear much noise at all... It was furnished and decorated fine and the bathroom restocked every day with shower gel etc... The breakfast and dinner buffets were great, plenty of choice, and not rammed full of people... It’s not all inclusive so you have to pay for your drinks at dinner... The pool was big, plenty of room for the size of the hotel and our daughter loved the slide... You can only reserve a sun bed with the hotel towels... You get clean pool towels everyday, and the towels only come available when the pool opens at 0900... This is great because it means everyone has a fair chance at the sunbeds... No early morning bed hogs!!... In fact some days there were spare beds available throughout the day; and this was in August... It has a swim up bar which was very popular, and staff provide a food and drink service direct to your sunbed... All the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful, from reception desk to cleaners to the buffet and around the pool (thanks Ivan)... We walked to hvar town a couple of times, and did the almost mandatory blue cave tour... A fantastic family holiday at a great hotel...

...Overall a good hotel in a good location with good facilities and good quality, welcoming staff. It’s no more than 10 minutes walk along a flat, well lit, seafront promenade to Hvar town... I’d definitely recommend this hotel, but it could be even better with a few small improvements: (1) providing proper, fresh orange juice and proper (freshly ground) espresso/cappuccino at breakfast; (2) stopping people vaping in the pool and limiting drinking to particular areas (eg by the bar) to make it more family friendly; (3) clearing away used glasses from around the edge of the pool more frequently (acting on point 2 above, would make this easier); (4) freshening up/renovating the decor (inside and out) in a few places (nothing major); (5) providing free use of the sun loungers on the beach... These are just suggestions to make it a great one...

...The room was nice and seemed to be a new addition to the hotel, but believe it or not the bathroom would flood when we took even a quick shower and it wasn’t because the drain was clogged, the slant of the shower was done wrong so the water drained towards the room and not the drain... My advice, spend the extra money and stay at the Elizabeth Palace...

...You couldn’t ask for a better spot in all of Croatia. The walk into town is beautiful, the sea is crystal clear (although watch out for urchins)... The gym was the worst I’ve ever seen at a hotel... Sunbeds on the beach - a representative of the hotel tried to charge us €15 per person to use them (note, this section and the beds are owned by the hotel)... But the idea you could spend over £2k for 5 nights and they’re still trying to charge you extra for a sunbed, it leaves a bad taste... As a hotel for couples I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The price did not reflect the room for a Junior Suite, balcony, sea view. This a massive hotel with too many stairs, small lifts, and a hike to the pool area. The maintenance of this hotel is lacking with stains on furniture in our room (reported but nothing done-we didn’t sit on the lounge!), also on the carpet, wardrobe doors need adjusting. On the plus side the bathroom was a good size, though the shower barely fitted me in and I’m a small person! Great view! The walk into the town was 10 minutes which wasn’t as issue, however, would be for some. Breakfast was busy with lots of children being in high season. The food and variety was very good. In conclusion the hotel did not deliver the hotel expectations for the dollars we paid. Interestingly, the same company owns seven main hotels in Hvar

This sprawling hotel has lovely grounds and a great pool (though unheated and a bit chilly in late September). The hotel itself is a bit worn especially in the hallways - dirty carpet, walls with big dings, etc. Our room was about a 10 minute walk from the lobby and another 5-10 minutes from the pool. It was in the back building. Beware when picking a room the layout of this massive hotel matters and their room descriptions are confusing. If I knew better I would have made sure that I had a sea view on the front of the building not one with a side view out to the sea. Not sure it was worth the extra $50/night for that view. The room itself was OK but again it needs some updating like the entire hotel. The buffet breakfast was expansive and included just about everything you could want. That and the pool area were the highlights of this stay though one member of the wait staff at the pool was lacking in skills. I had to hunt her down to pay my tab when she totally disappeared for over 30 minutes. The walk to and from town was nice. The luggage pick-up service from the ferry dock was helpful though the drop off was not as smooth given the bags barely showed up in time for us to board the ferry. Some pluses and minuses equals a so-so stay.

This is a good hotel if you like big, sprawling beach resort type hotels. The view is wonderful. Our balcony view was terrific. The pool, tourism and dining amenities are wonderful. The staff is extremely nice. The maintenance of this hotel is lacking. Our room had dirty stained carpeting, mold in the bathroom walls and grout, around the tub/shower, the closet doors did not close. the hotel needs to hire company to deep clean this property.

Large very clean and convenient hotel 10 minutes pleasant walk from Hvar town. Excellent base for sightseeing in Hvar and further afield using ferries from the harbour. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Limited but good food menu in the bar. Excellent buffet breakfast. We upgraded to a sea view room which had great views and a balcony. We went in the shoulder season as seniors and the hotel was busy but reasonably quiet. We could imagine it may get quite lively in the height of season and at weekends. Thanks to everyone at the Amfora for a very enjoyable stay.

Disappointing overall. A shame because the hotel has a lot going for it - a perfect spot, overlooking a secluded cove with beautiful views. The basic hotel structure is fine (despite being architecturally a little dated). The hotel, however, could be so much better with some simple adjustments: - public areas need a refurb - there is just too much chipped and stained paint - around the pool, on the outside of the building and in stairwells. Lifts feel like you’re in a government building - not a 4 star hotel - the pool (in early October at least) is freezing cold - and parts of the pool area infested with mosquitoes. This made this area a “no-go” for us - pretty poor for this type of hotel. The beach is lovely - but of course you need to pay for that - you might have thought the hotel would have struck a deal? - wi-fi basically doesn’t work most of the time - not really acceptable in this day and age - rooms look they have been furnished with no plan at all - we were told we’d been upgraded to a suite - which wasn’t a suite at all - just a slightly larger room. There were gaps behind furniture with no purpose - and bizarrely no desk to do a bit of work from or charge devices on - service was on the whole (with some exceptions) pretty poor - most of the staff clearly didn’t want to be there - I know it was the end of a long season but I don’t think I saw anyone smile once. A couple of people were downright rude. Housekeeping was very hit and miss - a surfeit of clean towels delivered but bins weren’t emptied and dirty cups and empty bottles not taken away. A bit of extra staff training would not go amiss! As I say this holiday could have been so much better - with more care and attention to guests for the management team.

Best club sandwich ever! Awesome swimming pool and own beach area. The breakfast restaurant has panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea. Our room had a beautiful sea view and overlooked the swimming pool. We came from Split on the ferry and we saw a porter from the hotel on the jetty who happily took our luggage up to the hotel, which was a leisurely 10 to 15 min walk from the wharf. They offered the same service when we checked out, the delivered our luggage to the wharf. Lovely. Hotel, could easily have stayed a week or so

Nearly but not quite there. We had a superior room and paid extra for sea view and a balcony. I can honestly say this is the smallest superior room I have ever stayed in and looking at the other rooms I think they are all the same size. No kettle, no tea or coffee, or robes as standard, only 5 hangers for 2 of us, hardly any storage space for a week, one drawer, 32 inch TV. Not sure how it differs from a standard room. Food is excellent, but no ice cream for the kids and no complimentary coffee with dinner, drinks are are very expensive, bottle of house red is 39 Euros.

About a 10 minute walk along a nice promenade from town and the ferry stop. Large hotel with large resort pool. Breakfast buffet every morning with plethora of choices. Only negative is that the room finishes are a bit dated. Lots of white melamine. But really not a big issue - would stay there again.

At first glance, the big box on the island's coast looks like a terrible snob palace. All the more pleasing was the experience that it definitely doesn't feel that way. Very friendly staff, there are free loungers at the pool at all times (September/October), the breakfast buffet offers a huge selection of everything a hungry guest could wish for and the rooms are clean and modern. I had a room with a balcony in the right wing (without sea view). Thank God I have to say: on Saturday night a live band played in front until about 3 o'clock in the morning. In the wing at the rearnit was more a nice surrounding music, in the front it would have be too loud to sleep.

Pros: The hotel pool is huge and the vibe around the pool is spot on. Great atmosphere. Never struggled to find a sunbed Staff super helpful and friendly in reception Rooms very big Reception nice atmosphere in the evening and surprisingly a lot of people having a drink Reception views stunning to see the pool and the beach in the background Cons: A little walk to the hotel which on arrival midday was very warm for us with our bags Our first room was the furthest from reception (top floor to the right) we had no service and wifi however reception moved us quickly enough. Second room however had a broken shower and the safe wasn't working. Safe was fixed but shower was not. Water in room and anywhere was €6.50 for a small bottle which is ridiculous! We ate in the hotel 1 night and it was €25 for the buffet - barely any choice so we were both hungry again after Beach was private and had to pay. Room was pretty basic - we had 2 TVs which were linked but out of sync Was very disappointed in general and other than the pool and reception we didnt rate the hotel and ended up going back to Split a day early
