This is a great hostel to stay in. I stayed in a lovely private room with an en-suite bathroom. The bed was so comfy. Great shower. It cost about 11 euro a night (I always think in Euro) which is absolutely amazing value. I researched accommodation in Dali Old Town very thoroughly before I booked this hostel and it was one of the best and cheapest places to stay. The whole hostel is really tastefully decorated. Nice, airy common area to eat or chill in and a bottle of Dali beet is cheap there. It's located across the main road, just a short walk from the old town. My flight home got cancelled the day before so I had to stay another night but it was no hassle to book an extra night there. The hostel also organised a taxi to Dali airport for me. I would definitely recommend staying here. Also, 88 Bakery nearby is a really good place to eat.…
You can't beat the value this hostel provides for all their levels of hospitality. The spaces they provide are excellent, the activities constant, and the care is genuine. The owners and staff want visitors to have a good time in Dali and live that as their motto daily.
We stayed in a double room with the most incredibly comfortable bed I have ever slept in. That and the food was so good, we booked a second night. We ate perfectly cooked pasta in the stunningly designed garden restaurant and drank a very good bottle of wine which was reasonably priced. The hotel/hostel has plenty of advice about tours and trips and the owners, Song and Dave, were friendly warm and welcoming. In fact, the second night we enjoyed a lively chat with some locals and left reluctantly the next day as the rain prevented further exploration. Dali ancient town is across the road from the Jade Emu and Xihou Market is just a local bus ride away. We will definitely return to Jade Emu when next in Yunnan!
I stayed here for four nights and was, in general, very impressed. The English of the staff is good and the information they provided on all the things to do in Dali was excellent. The hostel is superbly clean and there is an lovely bookshop and the food looks good but isn't very cheap. Coffee's good. Only complaint was the 6 man dorm wasn't great. Got woken up (and sometimes kept up) by the road outside and was constantly too hot. Still deserves 5 stars but I would choose a different dorm.
We had booked 4 nights a room „deluxe king“. I was delux. The hostel is 4 minutes to the old city. The hostel offers a lot of activities. Billiard competition, Tabel tennis, poker, tea Degustation. They organize also further transportation to Lejiang, to the airport..... Their restaurant is good, westerly and Chinese.
It is 5 mins to the old town, across a busy road. Place is laid back and largely friendly. Clientele looks very cosmopolitan with few locals. Clean rooms, very comfortable beds but semi cold showers. Lobby has a bar and some food. You can pass the time here.
Stayed 2 nights and 3 days. We enjoyed our time here. The coffee was good, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff was friendly. The hot water took a long time to get hot Overall we had a good stay and would go back again
Our second stay at Jade Emu, the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves very good food at reasonable prices. There's a pool table and table tennis plus darts. It is a very short walk to the ancient city. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. I would definitely recommend to stay here if you're visiting Dali. UK
i stayed in the dorm. sleep was marred by the worst snoring i have ever encountered. another guest told me that this was one of his better nights. but that's hardly the fault of the establishment of course. everything was good, perhaps the bathroom could have been cleaner but no real grumble from me. the girl who showed me the room could have pointed out there was an electric blanket - i only found out the next day. it's in a very good position for dali old town. there's also a buddhist restaurant 100m away where you can get an unlimited buffet for CNY5 - ask at reception. breakfast not included. owner is an aussie and his wife Song is one of the most beautiful women in China - so it's worth visiting just to see her!
We book a regular twin room, upon check-in we were offered a free upgrade to "suite", it's just a slightly bigger room I think. Well, I guess it's OK. The toilet can be better if the staff clean it well. Thermal blankets are available for each bed, there is AC for heating as well. Location is near main road, you can take special bus to 3 pagoda from the train station, only RMB 3 per pax. Very cheap. If you take "didi" is RMB 50. Old town is walking distance about 10mins. Overall, the stay is pleasant but not fantastic, considering it was only RMB 168 per night. Good enough for us. Happy holidays.
