If you are looking for an atmospheric place to stay in Turpan this is a good choice. All the other hotels i saw in Turpan did not have the same character. Its close to the city centre but in a peaceful location surrounded by grape vines. Its a short walk from the lodge to Emin Minaret and a longer walk to the bazaar and museum. The manager speaks good English and was very welcoming when i arrived after a long tiring trip. The staff do not speak English so communication can be difficult. The room was comfortable rather than luxurious. The roof top restaurant was good although the service is slow. The food is Chinese and the portions were generous. The buffet breakfast was good. I particularly enjoyed the fresh melon and the fact that they had toast! The lodge can arrange a car and driver to all the surrounding sights. I'm pleased i stayed here and would definitely return if i go back to Turpan.…
We stayed in this very pretty Uygur style courtyard Hotel with attractive flooring and many antiques. We had a very large comfortable room if a little tired with a good bathroom with plenty of space to store bits and pieces. The pleasant staff have little or no English but do their best to assist. The Hotel is in a lovely spot amongst the grape Vines with numerous terraces where you can enjoy the views over a leisurely drink or two. Staying here you must bear in mind you stay with the family. If you are missing the grand-kids with their screams and squeals which keep you awake this is the place for you! Tissues seem to be a problem in this hotel we saw empty boxes which do not get refilled and very few paper napkins in the dining room. The rough towels could do with a bit of softener but one must take the rough with the smooth! We had an excellent breakfast with plenty of choice and good coffee. Go early though as once a dish is gone it is not replaced. Meals from the restaurant are okay but served with an over abundance of hot dried chewy chillies – not for the faint hearted!!…
Yes, it’s charming and atmospheric with large rooms and good sized bathrooms but it also requires patience and the common areas need a revamp. The hotel staff tried really hard but the results were somewhat random. Checking in proved time consuming and staff at the restaurant and in reception could do with some training. Ignore the dirty tablecloths and try the food on the rooftop restaurant- it’s really good.
Such a sweet little lodge! I have had the pleasure of staying at the Silk Road Lodge on two occasions and have nothing but wonderful memories from both! It is so pretty and in a beautiful location. The rooms are spacious and clean and the courtyards and rooftop terraces are wonderful locations to recharge one's batteries. The staff is very kind and accommodating. There are many tourist sites to visit close to the Lodge and the staff will help you book a driver for the day if need be. One can easily walk to Emin Minaret, the museum and the town's centre from the Lodge. If you are wanting a day of rest, staying at the lodge itself is a great choice. Lots of places to relax with a good book or play a game of cards. Wifi is good enough to get business done if need be, and the lodge is very photogenic if you are wanting to snap some great pictures. The food at the lodge is also fabulous. The breakfast spread does not disappoint: coffee, tea, milk tea, juice, fruit, cooked veggies, hard boiled eggs, egg fried rice, pastries, etc. The main dinner/lunch menu offers fantastic local dishes, Da Pan Gi (big plate chicken) is my personal favourite and is enough to feed 2-3 people. If you are a solo traveller, there are enough foreigners coming and going at the lodge that you will not feel alone and very well might make some new friends. You will not be disappointed by choosing to stay at the Silk Road Lodge, you will only be disappointed you cannot stay longer!…
in the outskirts of turpan, in the heart of vineyards plantation, an authentic hacienda , with comfortable rooms, fantastic friendly service, romantic veranda overlooking the vineyards, with very good authentic restaurant, and a lot of charm all over. best choice in turpan.
