There is a reason this hotel has such great reviews - it really is wonderful. From the very beginning I got in touch with Erica (hotel manager) and she helped my husband and me get a taxi to the hotel. The hotel is out of the main town and in a special area. Not all cars can go there, so she talked to the taxi driver to figure it out for us. (This was not a big deal at all, so don't let it deter you from staying there.) We got a great room with a big balcony and beautiful view. The rooms are exactly as they look in the pictures - charming, traditional, warm. We were there end of December so it was cold outside, but the heaters worked great and there was a heated blanket too. The restaurant actually serves a huge variety of Chinese and Western dishes. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The breakfast was great and the best part was that you could eat breakfast anytime you wanted, so there was no need to get up early. Erica arranged a scooter rental that got delivered right to us, which was very convenient, and also a taxi all the way back to the Guilin airport. Erica also did a dumpling making class for the guests, which was awesome. We even made the dough from scratch, and I was able to make veggie dumplings. Then the kitchen cooked them and that was our dinner... delicious. The hotel is lovely, but the biggest thing is that the staff is amazing. Erica is an awesome manager. We had to leave a day early and she switched our reservation without a problem or extra charge. All the other staff were super friendly, helpful, and they all spoke excellent English, which was unexpected. So if you are worried about your lack of Chinese skills, this hotel will make your life easy. Overall this hotel is amazing; I can't recommend it enough.

The only negative thing I have to say is that the hotel is made of wood and is not well insulated so you hear noises all day long. Earplug are recommended if you don't want to be disturbed.

The staff are warm and welcoming and the location was great. The hotel is located outside the Yangshuo Township along the Yulong River with many good restaurants and walks nearby.

The staff gave us the Golden Eagle Nest which had a big comfy bed and a nice wooden bathtub big enough for the two of us. The shower was nice as well. The features of the room were a little dated but added to the charm of the hotel. The rooms have nice balconies, Chinese style furniture, small TVs, DVD players and a tea set with loose leaf tea.

The front desk staff were very helpful and the restaurant at the top had some good food and drink options. They do have an elevator but it is only for luggage. The hotel offers daily bike rentals for 20 RMB.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from town and 60 minutes from the high speed railway station. Didi address is: 阳朔红楼梦酒店

Spent 5 days at the Mountain Nest over Christmas and will definitely be going back. The location is great for exploring the mountains and rivers - the mountains are within walking distance, and the hotel also offers motor bikes and cycles, and can arrange local guides. Erica and her team made us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. I think they went above and beyond in terms of customer service, which we really appreciated. The food was great (western and Asian), and the room spacious and immaculate.

It is a lovely boutique hotel with an ancient classic look. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is cheap and good. The free bike rental is a bonus (unfortunately my bike broke down as the bicycle chain kept dislodging, can't complain since it is complimentary). The hotel is about 45min by taxi and cost ard RMB150 from Yangshuo train station, cheaper alternative is to take a coach (RMB20/person) to Yangshou and then taxi (RMB20-30). The hotel is near many scenic spots in Yangshou and can reach the Yangshuo city by bicycle. There is not much of eating places near the hotel except those home based restaurants nearby, we had tried one recommended by the hotel but honestly quite ordinary.

Now the downside, there is no lift except a lugguage lift, may be an issue for the old folks or people with knee pain. The views from the hotel is not quite as stunning as I have expected. I have attached the real views here from my point of view (some taken from my hotel room, some at the rooftop).

Overall it is a good hotel stay, just have to manage yr expectations.

Thanks a lot to the whole hotel team. You made us feel at home and you have shown us a bit more about the Chinese culture. The whole staff was very friendly, The rooms are nice and very clean. The pool in the sister hotel gave the chance to cool down after an active day. The food what you offer is delicious, it is doesn’t matter whether it is the local food or the western food. We really like your top roof restaurant and bar. One of our highlights was the dumpling class in the hotel. The hotel was the perfect location to explore the beautiful nature and the highlights in this area.

The good the view

The bad

Booked a family room 1 king and 2 twins room is similar to a 1 star hotel. If you only intend to visit for a weekend fine any longer advise look elsewhere. No where to hang clothes no draws in which to place stuff etc.
Breakfast very limited choice have to choose from set menus. Food ok if you like it swimming in oil. Fresh fruit juice is great if you only want water melon.
Room not particularly clean , boxes with dirty mosquito plugs hidden under bedside cabinets dehumidifier left full of water etc . I could go but soooo disappointed with what could be a good hotel

Delightful off-season travel. We were the only guests at the time (early December), so it was like our own private world. The family who cares for the inn was friendly, polite and helpful. The food was delicious- especially the French toast, coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast. The lobby area was chilly, open to the outside, when we first arrived, so they lit a little charcoal brazier and closed the doors, and that made it comfortable. Our room was warm and comfortable. The weather was just right for long walks along the river. We’re very happy with our stay.

Hotel is a great combination of old style architecture but with comfortable bed and aircon. Staff are great and food was excellent. Top quality cappuccino. We were only guests for 2 nights and don’t believe they were doing breakfast.

Easy short walk down to river.

I had a local massage which was extremely good value

Not their fault, but now lots of new hotels have popped up spoiling their view of the mountains. So pictures are a bit flattering. Only reason for not being 5. I’d give 4.5 if I could

I had a lot of difficulty deciding where to stay in Yangshuo - a little bit outside the main part of town or right in the heart of town (around West Street). And after having spent 4 days, 4 nights at the Mountain Nest, I still can't tell you which is better. We visited West Street one day and it was fine, but our favorite activities in Yangshuo were far away from this area so I'm not convinced what area you stay makes a big difference. But I certainly wouldn't pay more to be near West Street.

What I can tell you though is that we chose extraordinarily well in choosing the Mountain Nest hotel. After making the reservation, Curry (the owner) was in contact with me concerning choice of rooms and if we needed any advice concerning activities in the area. Worth noting that Curry used to be a tour guide and had great advice on activities in the area and what to see and do.

And after having been running around in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an and Chengdu with a rather aggressive itinerary (self chosen and guided), it was nice to just play things by ear in Yangshuo. As we decided what to do each day, Erica and Curry were there with suggestions and choices, and when we needed a driver, they were able to secure us a driver, always within 15 minutes, meaning that we didn't have to plan activities far in advance. And they must know some really great people because the drivers we had were fantastic. We were picked up from the Guilin airport after arriving late at night from Chengdu, and then we were driven to Longsheng where we spent a night at the terraced rice fields, and finally back to the airport. And of course, they have plenty of bicycles on hand if you'd rather go that route. That Erica and Curry spoke English better than any other people we met on our 3-week trip was a big plus too. It just made everything very easy.

As for the hotel itself, the Mountain Nest is pretty new so the rooms are in great shape, very nicely decorated, and with pretty comfortable beds. Air conditioning worked well, water pressure in the bathroom/shower was good and there were plenty of outlets. I really liked the balcony and the views of the karsts and the small farms in the area. Just note that the typical room is on the smaller side so you won't have places to store clothing other than in your suitcase. We really didn't consider this to be a concern even though we spent four nights here.

Food in the restaurant was pretty good. You have your choice of Chinese or Western breakfast, with many options, including dumplings. Pretty decent food for dinner too -- make sure to have the Li River snails, a delicious local recipe . . . I couldn't get enough of them. I noticed that Gourmet Magazine had a recipe for them from years ago.

In terms of our favorite activities in the area, make sure to visit the farmer's market, which only happens every third day. It's huge, and with some pretty good things to eat (very inexpensive too) and amazing things to see. We also loved the hike up Moon Hill (don't miss the chance to say hi to and buy a drink from the very friendly older woman at the top), the easier hike up Xianggong Mountain for some of the most spectacular views in the area (and lunch at the small farm restaurant in the area), a bamboo raft ride, a boat trip with spectacular views of the karsts (the view here is the same pictured on the back of the 20 yuan bill), strolling around West Street and the park, a visit to Fuli ancient town and a tour of a tea farm. We weren't thrilled with the evening light show, not that it was bad, so if you're not doing anything else in the evening, it might be worth it.

But overall, we really enjoyed our four nights at the Mountain Nest (a perfect length stay in my opinion), and particularly how easy Erica and Curry made it for us. They (and the rest of the staff) were very generous and welcoming and Erica was even kind enough to prepare a tea ceremony for us one night. If I return to Yangshuo, I would absolutely stay here again.

On business trip to Guangzhou. Found out with new highspeed train, Yangshuo is on 2 hrs plus away. Decided to explore since had Guilin has always been one of the places I want to visit. And many mentioned online the place to go is the nearby YangShuo, not Guilin.

First the train ride. Must go early to GZ South Station. I was early by 40 mins, and still nearly miss my 8.06am train. Long queues to clear security checks. Trains leave ON THE DOT. Nice comfortable ride. Yangshuo Rail Station is NOT near Yangshuo. Either arrange with Hotel to pick up, which I forgot and decided to make my own way to Hotel. Need to take a bus to Yangshuo town, cost 20RMB. Took me an hour. From town, need to take a cab, which u need to bargain, otherwise it’s 40RMB, which can takes u only to the entrance of the reserve area. Apparently the Chinese government disallow non-resident vehicles into the reserve area, where the hotel is. One tip, you need to know the Chinese name of the hotel if u want to make your own way to the Hotel. No private drivers know where is Mountain Nest, but they know “Hong Low Mong”. Private drivers or cabbies will bring u to the entrance to the reserve, call the hotel and they can pick u up.

Hotel is a nice boutique hotel. Good for couples, I think. But I am solo. Food at Restaurant is pretty good, to my surprise. I am particular about food. Erica is very helpful. The hotel staff gave tips where to go. My day 1 which started only at noon: I managed to have a quick lunch at Hotel, took a bicycle on a route to see some ancient bridges, with the Guilin-famous landscape along the way. Took an hour plus to bike up to the bridges, then took a relaxing raft back. They transport your bicycle back and u just need to cycle a short distance back to Hotel. Rested a while and went to catch the famous Liu San Jie show.

Day 2, gonna bicycle in the morning to Moon Hill, and take a trip to another mountain later today. Would be good if I have another day.

So, basically Hotel is great is u want to be away from the buzz, because you need to arrange vehicle to get out of this area. But if u want a relaxing time to chill, bicycle around and avoid all the town crowds, then this is good.

Getting back to the rail station.... I decide to let the hotel arrange a transfer, 250rmb, to save me the hassle of multiple changes using public transport.

I was able to get to the property by taxi, as were all other guests that I spoke with, and also to take a taxi to a night show in downtown, another to come back to the premises after 11pm, and yet a third my last day to take me to the Moon Gate formation and the Gold Water cave. So, I think you will make it to the hotel just fine. Just work with them to call the taxis and provide you the transportation, they are very nice, speak good English and you can use a credit card to pay for it.
