The Cosy Garden, is everything you'd expect from its namesake, A warm welcome and a cosy getaway to relax from all the stresses and chaos of the big Chinese cities. Set in the beautiful Yangshuo countryside The Cosy Garden offers everything you need for a relaxing and active stay on your journey through Yangshuo. Our cosy hostel offers Single, Double & Twin rooms all with their own en suite bathrooms. There is a large open terrace out front with a pool table, a great guest kitchen & lounge area with soft sofas and dining tables, and lots of nice spots to relax and read a book or sit surfing the internet. And of course we have a great cosy garden out back which we have lovingly designed to offer a great place to relax and socialize, with plenty of seating areas, a small waterfall and stream running around the whole garden, lots of beautiful plants and even space for BBQ's and a nice campfire. The whole garden is designed to focus on the karst mountains around the village and offer views down onto the paddy fields where the locals still go about there daily business.. Our little village offers a great place to relax and plan your time in Yangshuo, our English speaking staff have been here a long time and know a great deal on what Yangshuo has to offer, from bike routes running along, around, across the beautiful Li and Yu-long rivers. Excellent local knowledge on the best places to go in town, be it eating, drinking, shopping. Or even letting you know about some of the great little walks around and beyond the village itself. We also have great contacts for getting tickets to all the popular Yangshuo past times, Tai chi, Kayaking, Rock climbing, bamboo rafting, caving, and we can also help you arrange tickets for the light show, the great Yangshuo cooking school, cormorant fishing and one of our real favorites the Longji Rice terraces! We are only 5 minutes from the Li-river and can point you in the right direction for some great swimming spots, including the ever popular Double headed sandy Beach! Yes we may be out of the main town, but so is almost everything you could really want to do here in Yangshuo. If you want a great base for your travels and the opportunity to relax in a truly unique and beautiful environment, get some great advice on the best way to really take advantage of this spectacular area over a beer or coffee, be looked after by a great team who genuinely care and fall asleep in a comfortable clean bed to the sounds of nature then we think we have everything you could need...

Overall a good experience, although in hindsight I might have just walked in to this "village" about 1.5 kilos north of Yangshuo to find something. The room seemed a little bit overpriced to me, but also they do have a lot of shared areas for people to congregate together. However, when I was there, there were almost no other travelers, so there was no community. Only one member of staff really speaks English. Staff were generally very helpful though. The Cosy Garden is not too far from Yangshuo and it's very quiet. On the downside, there wasn't really much to eat in that area so you had to walk into Yangshuo to eat. On the other hand I think you were allowed to cook in their kitchen. Overall, this place seems to be based on an old style of hostel catering to foreign travelers but I'm not sure if the traffic is really there now.

Cosy Garden is 1,5 km north from Yangshuo. If you arrive by boat just follow the river and turn left after the "tourist street" ends. It a really relaxing and quiet place without the hassle in the city. This special atmosphere is contributed by the common rooms where you have to prepare your breakfast by yourself and you also can cook your own lunch and dinner there. It is true that the hotel has seen better days and the garden is not like it is shown on the photos anymore. But still it is a very nice place if you expect a common hostel and not a five star hotel. Bikes for a trip in the city are free after 4pm.

Trippers Carpe Diem, Yangshuo: Pro's: helpfull friendly staff, good decent restaurant with local cheff, relaxing communal area with nice view, AC and fans in the room, pool biljart, Belgian cold beers, WIFI works reasonable, quiet environment and very very decent vegetable spring rolls. Cons: hammock is outdated and not usefull, bad stairway to the entrance, it's 20 minute walk to the centre and In conclusion: quiet guesthouse with a decent kitchen, good value for the money Tips for the hostel: build new entrance stairway, buy new hammocks, keep the cook and improve the already good communal area.

The Cosy Garden, Yangshuo: Pro's: helpfull friendly staff, make yourself breakfast (if you like it), easy bike rent, no hassle with transferring to sister hostel Trippers Carpe Diem, peacefull location just outdide Yangshuo. Cons: what happened to the garden? Overgroin, not mantained, floorboarded are lose, gardenfurniture not useable. The shower is very near to the toilet (tiny bathroom), molded bathroom wall, dirty stains in the sheets, very hard matrass, some lights and plugs in the room didn't work, you have to do your own dishes after breakfast, WIFI connection to internet hardly works. In conclusion: the only hostel in China we left early. In potention good deal but not with these standards. Tips for the hostel: make a new garden or change the name and photo's online, maintain the new garden, ask the neighbours to take care of their gardens, buy new sheets, clean the bathroom with a new brush and use antifunghi, ask your staff to do the dishes not your clients, make schedule to check plugs and lamps every month, make the front garden covered for a nice communial area.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There were trip ideas and leaflets available to use and the location was a 15 minute walk to town. Food and drink in the hotel was pretty good - they had just brought out a new menu during our stay which had more food options both western and Chinese. For breakfast you help yourself to eggs, tomatoes, bananas, bread, yoghurt, milk and muesli as well as coffee and green tea. You cook what you want and you can store your own food in the fridge if wanted. You wash your own plates and cutlery and then it goes in a steriliser. During our stay we had high humidity and quite a bit of rain. The rooms were not very accommodating of this and therefore your clothes and wet towels did not dry, leaving a musty smell in the room. The floors were often wet in the communal areas and ants and bugs appeared around the hotel. The water from the taps was brown for 2 days due to the rain affecting the mud in the water. The overhead shower didn't work and so we had to hold the handheld shower to wash. Toiletries were very basic with no soap or hand wash so I suggest you take your own. 2 friends got sick during our stay and we heard of others who got sick too, we are not sure if it was from the water, food or just a bug but we have lived in China for 3 years and so we are used to the conditions..... Overall the place is okay to stay at and cheap at 180yuan a night for a double with breakfast included. The communal areas are good for meeting people and sitting out having a drink and food with friends and playing cards etc, they could do with some comfort seating though. It is probably worth paying a little bit extra for a cleaner and better maintained place.
