We spent 3 nights here in October 2018. It's a very nice, small hotel in a small village near Yangshuo. On the outside, it looks much like many of the buildings in the village, although better maintained than most. On the inside however, it's beautiful. The rooms are very well furnished and very comfortable. The facilities are excellent and, best of all, Gary and his family are very friendly and welcoming. Even though the hotel is well away from the tourist spots, Gary is very happy to arrange trips and activities, including the transport, and there is more than enough to keep you occupied in the local towns. We tried a Tai Chi lesson, caligraphy lesson, bamboo rafting and a cycle ride though the local countryside. We also went to see the famous Yangshuo light show on the lake. It was an excellent way to spend a few days relaxing, having just done a 5-day hike on the Great Wall.

If you're like me and don't like crowds that often accompany Chinese touristy locations, then you have come to the right place. Mountain Escape is away from the hectic area of Yangshuo and situated in a calm and peaceful neighborhood but close enough where you can bike ride or walk to some attractions. As this is a small place with only four rooms, you will receive personalized service that you won't get even at those big chained five star hotels. Out of the five plus hotels I stayed at during my trip to China (including 5 star ones), this was my favorite one because of the level of service and care they give and the value you get out of what you pay. The photos are accurate and the quality of the fixtures to the toiletries provided were top notch. The most memorable part for me however was the food, which really exceeded my expectations. We were told that the meals would be simple, but were surprised when the food arrived as it was actually a gourmet five course Chinese lunch and dinner. Our meal even came accompanied with a home made passion fruit juice drink which was delicious. The place provided us with free bike rentals and Gary the owner gave us great suggestions for what to do in the town. He helped arranged a guided driver when the weather wasn't too great on one day of our stay, as well as airport transportation. I'm glad I made the choice to stay here!

We spent 4 nights at this beautiful family run hotel. It is about 15 minutes from Yangshuo in a typical Chinese village called Yulong. From here you can easily walk to the village and take a bamboo raft, or cycle to a nearby village for something to eat. The hotel provide good quality bikes for getting around. Gary, the owner arranged all our activities including cycle to moon hill, trip to rice terraces, evening with cormorant fisherman and morning of tai chi. He also arranged our transfer to and from the airport. There are only 4 rooms but they are done out to a five star standard with high quality toiletries and a huge bath! The evening meal is delicious. I’m a bit fussy but needn’t have worried. It really was something to look forward to on an evening! We had terrible weather when we were here so couldn’t enjoy the terrace but I imagine it is a beautiful place to watch the sun set in the evening. Would highly recommend staying here!

This hotel is a traditional heritage building. Nothing on the outside prepares you for how beautiful it is on the inside. It’s an Alice in Wonderland experience. It is a boutique hotel and has been extensively renovated by the owners. The fitout is a very high standard. Our room was a loft bedroom with a comfortable king size bed and an ensuite toilet and washbasin. Downstairs was the main bathroom with a rain shower and a large bathtub and double handbasins. The two toilets have settings for douching. The room was clean, very large and well furnished. Room facilities included a safe and a night light on the bed which was activated by a movement sensor. Excellent bathroom facilities with a walk in shower and a separate bathtub. High quality toiletries are supplied. The owner also provided us with welcome gifts which was very generous. Good wifi connection in the room. Breakfast is good. A range of western options are available. Sleep quality is excellent. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet. Staff were very friendly and hospitable. They go out of their way to make sure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Every effort is made to make you feel right at home. In fact the best feature of this hotel is how personal the service is and how welcoming the hosts are. The hotel serves dinner in the evening and the chef is an excellent cook. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and recommend it highly.

Our stay in Yangshuo was absolutely amazing and it was made by this beautiful hotel. It is tucked away in the countryside away from the town but that is exactly what we wanted. They offer a taxi service into West Street which is only a 15 minute drive anyway and you can arrange a return pick up time with the driver. They also provide a taxi service from the high speed station and even though we were delayed getting to Yangshuo, because Gary and Fiona were so good over communication, we were able to delay our pick to the next morning. It is only a small hotel so was very quiet when we were there. The facilities are excellent- I don’t think I’ve ever had a nicer bathroom! And the rooftop has beautiful views of the stunning surroundings. It was more than comfortable and more than we expected as we knew we would be out exploring for most of the day anyway. But what really matters is the people who work in the hotel and we truly received a 5 star experience from the start. We were given the option of homemade cooked meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner which were huge portions and absolutely delicious! We are both vegetarian and they were more than happy to accommodate. Any excursion we wanted to do, we just asked Fiona and she did all the organising for us. We would highly recommend the guided bike tour, bamboo raft and cooking course. On top of this, when we honestly learned so much about the history and culture of Yangshou from our hotel! Fiona talked us through the beautiful decor in the hotel and the grounds on which is stands. ALL of the staff were so helpful and genuinely helpful. Such a bargain for the price they charge! We cannot recommend them enough!
