We went to Jiayuguan to see its part of the Great Wall and, of course, the Jiayuguan Fort.
We stayed at the Guotai Hotel, which is centrally located but it seems that since the previous reviewer's visit in August 2011, there was no real maintenance done to it and this hotel really went down.
The first room we were assigned had a leaking bathroom, the bathroom floor was itself covered by water and the entire room was badly in need of some good maintenance. Got another room, but this one too was the shabbiest room we had in China. It was obvious that the room did not enjoy the benefits of a good vaccuming in a very, very long period of time, the furniture was shabby, the carpet was coming off at the edges, the widows had not been washed in along time and the bathroom needed a good cleaning and some fixing as well. The only good thing about it was the clean bed sheets. I would not recommend.

In early July this year I was having a brief holiday in Jiayuguan with a Chinese
friend on the way back from a visit to Dunhuang. As we hadn't booked a hotel in Jiayuguan I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find such nice accommodation in Jiayuguan. The room was immaculately clean and beautiful and to my great delight
had a small refrigerator in the room and a bath tub.In all the hotels I've stayed in in China this is is the only hotel I can recall having a refrigerator. The room was very spaciousand the air conditioning provided welcome relief from the July heat.
The staff didn't peak much English from memory but were very polite and friendly
and did their best to assist me when I spoke in Mandarin to them.I definitely would
stay in this hotel again if the opportunity presents itself and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone needing clean ,comfortable accommodation in Jiayuguan.
