Their staff is very friendly. I had a knee issue - Feng drove me to doctor and Tina came as a translator - I just didn't expect such a great service. Location is good. You will meet at least few English speaking people - which helps a lot if you don't know Chinese.

Dunhuang has Mogao Grottoes: arguably the best Buddhist ancient marvel in Cathay; also the Singing Sand Dunes: among the biggest on the planet. Clear warmish blue sky stretching across the Taklamakan Desert of November. A perfect day. Until you try to find any budget place to kip. There's the rub of early evening's chilly shoulders. And the Shazhou night market... More

Pros The staff is always attentive; replying to all kinds of questions and seriously trying to help. The bus trip for 85 RMB was one of the best experiences in my Silk road trip. The location is OK too. Cons Only one Chinese toilet, one western toilet and one urinary per floor (dozens of guys) is very bad. Similarly sized hostels... More

We stayed five nights here and the biggest positive of this hostel is the location. It is just over 5 minutes walk from the night food market, five minutes walk away from a supermarket and close to the train and bus station. We contacted the hostel before arriving asking if they could pick us up, they didn't reply despite our... More

I stayed here two nights, being the only foreigner in an INTERNATIONAL youth hostel was quite an experience. Rooms was okay, clean blankets but toilets were not cleaned in 2 days and common area trash bin was overflowing. The staff speaks little English but I lacked a bit of interaction and it felt anonymous and a bit boring to me.... More

it's in a great location where is so close to the Shazhou night fair, where so many delicious tastes and also delicate accessories, also some local souvenir you can get. there is also a Islamic church near there. Also the bus station and railway agent is not far. all in all, a comfortable hostel.

Rubbish hostel in terms of despite being told it's an INTERNATIONAL youth hostel, they wouldn't take us despite prebooking, as we were Brits? They said it was government policy. We met others staying there on one of our tours the next day, they'd be staying there for 4 days already and said there was hardly anyone staying there so should... More

Enjoyed our stay, perfectly pleasant and staff willing to help with our many (and sometimes odd) requests. Rooms & sheets were clean, rooms spacious enough, large communal area and great roof top to dry clothes in the desert sun. Bathrooms/loo area could do with a facelift but are regularly cleaned. Good location, 4mins walk to bus no.3 (to the dunes).... More

We stayed for four nights in a double room. Theroom was not horrible, te hot water just didn'twork. Everytime we wanted to take a shower, we had to run down from floor four to floor one and ask them to fix the water. Hot water was only from 18:00h till 24:00h. After we finised showering under our warmish water, we... More

We are now for one year on our trip by bicycle from Germany/Austria to New Zealand. We usually sleep in our tents, but in cities camping is not recommended. Therefore we sleep in guesthouses, hostel and hotels up to 4 stars. We stayed in this hostel for several days and we highly appreciated it. Friendly and helpful staff ! Some of... More
