This is the finest lodging experience we have ever had. The level of service and attention to detail is absolutely phenomenal. My entire family could not have imagined a better travel experience anywhere, anytime. From the moment you arrive ( via the Awasi shuttle), you are treated as if you are the only people alive. Your food/beverage preferences are noted, any special requests are honored at all times and the food and restaurant service is Michelin quality.
The excursions are magical, and the guiding is tops. We had a family member who desired equestrian excursions. She was accommodated with 2 of the best "rides" she has ever had, in the middle of the Mars and Moon Valleys. Everything we had was personalized. No other place we have ever stayed at was truly able to do this to the degree that the Awasi did. We have been fortunate to have stayed at some wonderful, highly rated Relais and Chateaux facilities in the past. This topped them all. If you want the trip of a lifetime, in the place of a lifetime, Awasi Atacama is it.

Dear Martin L, What a wonderful review to read, we really appreciate your kind words. It was a pleasure to welcome you and your family to our home in the north of Chile for your double celebration! Your guides will be happy to know you enjoyed your adventures with them, most notably the horseback riding. Now that you’ve already hiked Cerro Toco as a family (quite the feat) we would love to welcome you to our location in Patagonia for more hikes! If you do come back to South American please feel free to reach out. Warm regards, The Awasi Team

It is obvious from before you even arrive they are looking to understand what type of vacation you are location for and then delivering well beyond your expectations. Adjusting to your every request and delivering a level of service I've never seen before. All while you are in the middle of the Atacama desert.

It started with our guide, Mabel. She was so thoughtful, funny, and genuinely wanted to show you the world of the Atacama Desert. We climbed a dormant volcano, hiked along/in a river bed, rode horses, and swam in the salt lakes. We went with more adventurous excursions and very thankful we did.

Food and beverage. We had breakfast delivered every morning but one morning I woke up a little early and went to the restaurant and before I could even order our coffee drinks, they read to me the coffee drinks we ordered every morning to confirm I wanted them again. It is a little thing, but shows the level of detail they go to. I asked for no olives on one of the entrees, I never saw another olive again. The food is absolutely incredible. Such flavor and there isn't a single thing on the menu you'll be let down by. Great bartender in David. The service from Max, Alvero, Aljandro, Frenanda, Connie, Ericka...I'm sure I'm missing a few but they all deliver top level service without making it feel "stuffy". Very fun and personal.

The hotel is beautiful, calm...and when the stars were out, sitting by the fires and drinking wine was so peaceful.

Loved every moment and cannot wait to enjoy the other Awasi resorts and likely coming back to Atacama. Staying at the Awasi is the move to make when in San Pedro.

Dear Ryan W, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your time in Atacama with us and the rest of the TripAdvisor community. Words like yours motivate us further to keep surprising our Awasi family with the "little things". Without a doubt, from a volcano hike to a river walk and horseback riding, you set out to have quite the adventurous visit and we are so glad that you enjoyed it all. We hope you have some "rica rica" to prepare your own Atacama pisco sours and bring a little bit of your Awasi experience back to life. Mabel sends her best to you both and we all hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, The Awasi Family

This was our second visit to the Atacama and we loved the Awasi. The fact that it is a small boutique hotel means you get excellent, personalized service. The staff were amazing…every time we came back from an expedition we were greeted warmly. The rooms are very comfortable and private and you have both an indoor and outdoor shower. Laundry service is efficient. The food and drinks were great also, including the special barbecue. Wine pairings at dinner from the knowledgeable wine staff were really good. We had a wonderful private guide and vehicle and planned each day’s activities with her in advance. The altitude isn’t bad and they make sure you acclimate to the expeditions gradually…we went to see the El Tatio geyser field one day at almost 14,000 feet and had no problem (BTW, no need to go at sunrise as they are amazing later in the day as well and no one is there! Thanks to our guide for this tip). We didn’t walk around town much but you are located right in the middle of San Pedro. Travel tip for September: it can be very very cold on some of the expeditions at altitude if the wind is blowing. We wore wool base layers, thick fleece and both a down vest and down jacket with gloves, beanie, and ski type neck gaiter. We even brought the little ski style packaged hand warmers and used them. All in all, an excellent stay and highly recommended.

Our stay at the Awasi Atacama was the highlight of our 35 days in South America. The hotel is quiet, comfortable, private and provides excellent service. The food was beyond our expectations, as it was not only delicious, but creative and beautifully presented. The staff were, without exception, warm and helpful. Most of all, we appreciated the individualized tours that were tailored to my interest in photography. Our guide, Coti, and driver, Ariel, were delightful. We stayed for four nights but I could have stayed longer!

Awasi Atacama is at least a 10-star hotel. In a category of its own, Awasi's food, villas, service, and experiences are unmatched by any other hotel in the area. Every villa comes with its own guide and a 4x4 vehicle to take you to any excursion you wish to do. Completely private. Completely taylor-made. To me, that luxury of privacy on your own time is worth every penny. And don't even get me started on food! Chef Juan Pablo and his team make every meal a Michelin star experience. They are, afterall, a Relais&Chateaux property. The staff have become our friends, and we cannot wait to see them again soon!

This all inclusive resort sits in the town of San Pedro. The ambiance in this resort is fantastic and the staff from the manager, to our guide, to the wait staff and chef were outstanding. This resort catered to my special diet and made my wife and I feel special while we were in the resort. The meals were varied and excellent with plenty on offer and much creativity used to create special meals for us and a wonderful Valentines Day meal. We were looking for special gift items in the shop and they made sure we were able to get them. Our guide Vivi took great care of us from pick up at the airport to check in on our departure. She also was our chef for a wonderful picnic meal in a gorgeous natural setting. We wished we could have stayed longer as we enjoyed this resort so much.

WOW this place is incredible. Every detail from the moment your private guide picks you up from the Calama airport until they drop you back off (and offer to assist you with luggage at the ticketing counter) is so well coordinated and well thought out. I have never stayed anywhere where the service was this outstanding from every single member of the staff. I can’t thank Pierre, Felipe, Alejandro, Alessandra, Brian, Alvaro, Samantha, Fernando, and everyone else on the staff enough, you made our first trip to Chile one we will never forget and we can’t wait to come back to this property in the future. The food is phenomenal and the wine pairings are perfection (shoutout to the chef and the sommelier, Alvaro)! Our room was spacious, quiet, and felt like home during our stay. Our guide Pierre recommended 4 hikes specifically for our activity level and what we wanted to see within the Atacama desert. He and a couple of drivers arranged a post hike lunch and snack for us that were so nice. Even today when we were headed back to Santiago, Pierre arranged for a short hike for us so that we could take advantage of every moment we had in this amazing place. Hands down this place is worth every penny, we will definitely be coming back in the future.

We had previously had a wonderful stay at Awasi Patagonia so decided to check out Awasi Atacama for a five night stay. It was just wonderful! Mabel, our guide was perfect - she understood our pace and vibed with our car music choices and odd requests (like to make a detour to see a ghost town!). Brian and his team at the hotel also truly went above and beyond. For example, we missed our flight to Calama and they had champagne and food waiting for us despite pulling up at midnight. They also pulled off some pretty astounding food/drink surprises: they secretly learned from the manager of another R&C hotel we'd just stayed at that we wanted to try chicha (a traditional, very tasty boozy beverage), and they managed to find us a bottle even though it was the down season! We were truly surprised and delighted. They made us an incredibly delicious pastel de choclo for our last lunch with barely any notice at all that that's what we wanted to eat. On top of all of this was the usual perfection of Awasi, such as scrumptious mixed drinks; excellent, friendly service; and lovely design touches in the room and property. Thank you again, Awasi Atacama!!!

Dear Rachel N., As always, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your time in the Atacama Desert, exploring the must-see places and the less known stops as well. For your second time around with us in Chile, we couldn´t have been happier to give you the “full Chilean experience from “chicha” to empanadas and, of course, pastel de choclo. We are happy to see that it left quite the impression on your stay! Now that you’ve visited Atacama and Patagonia, we hope to see you at Awasi Iguazú soon! Best wishes, The Awasi Team

Awasi Atacama is incredibly excellent. This is definitely an entire experience and not only just a hotel resort. They are nice and highly customized from the first contact you make upon reservation all the way through your entire experience. The personal customized stay and tour with your own guide, car and tours just seems so necessary for anyone adventuring to improved Atacama experience and learning. There is so much to see and enjoy that everything is breath taking and Awasi will make that happen. Many thanks to all the Awasi Atacama family for making myself and family so comfortable and we will definitely be back to even enjoy the hotel, wine and food experience. They will accept any challenge for a better customized experience. Muchas Gracias Bruno, Brian, Pierre, Anibal, Stephanie and everyone else, I apologize if I forgot anyone. I will also schedule Patagonia and Iguazu.

Pierre, you are the best tour guide and so caring for our family ! Muito Obrigado.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights following a 5 night stay at the Awasi Patagonia. After experiencing the truly exceptional service and staff in Patagonia, this resort was a disappointment. Our room was large and had lovely outdoor areas. Unfortunately, it also had 2 bathroom faucets which dripped loudly and constantly. (We were told by management the pipes were soon going to be replaced).

Our guide, Caro, was wonderful and offered up multiple options, helping us choose those which best matched our fitness level and interests. We truly enjoyed our time with her. She even showed us a nest of burrowing owls and assisted with some photography tips.

Unfortunately, the rest of the staff seemed indifferent, particularly in the dining room. The exception being Gustavo, who was warm and helpful. Dinner staff presented me with someone else’s menu one night, explaining that wine had been spilled on mine. My dining preferences (sent from our travel agent as well as in a hand-off from the guide at the Awasi Patagonia) clearly state “no seafood”. However, 2 nights in a row my menu (which was clearly not personalized for me) included seafood dishes. The sommelier never visited our table and one evening when I ordered a boulevardier straight up (which is how I prefer it), the waiter lectured me on how that was not the proper way to drink it.

Assistant Manager Brian would occasionally check in but it was always perfunctory. He never addressed the dining room issues.

Our final evening, the waiter presented an option for a special tasting menu “to make up for the misunderstanding earlier this week”. This was a blatant lie as the tasting menu was included as part of our package from our travel agent.

The property itself is beautiful and our guide was fantastic, which is why I feel the resort is worthy of 4 stars. The excursions were great and that was our main reason for visiting this area. It’s too bad the management does not share the same standards and warmth as the Awasi in Patagonia, as I feel the indifference to guests comes from upper management (who operate more like staff in large hotels).

Hello, sorry to be so long in replying but we have been away again!. We have not been to both Awasi properties only the Atacama one and would most definitely recommend it. The rooms are very comfortable and having your own personal guide and four wheel drive vehicle is fabulous. The food is excellent and the staff wonderful.

The hikes are customized to your abilities and wishes. We were a group of 2 couples so we had 2 guides. For example, my wife and I did the very easy 2+ hour climb right behind the lodge one AM through a gnarly forest to a "meadow" where we had great views and watched condors. Another day my wife and I did almost the all day trek - challenging because of the crowds and very rocky - to the Spires. But it was one of our best treks ever. Another day the 4 of us visited a ranch where he ladies rode horses and the 2 guys trekked all over the "ranch". Etc. Note that some of the best treks in the world are the "W" circuit at Torres del Paine so you can do as much of that as you can stomach. It is all up to you and the weather.
