We stayed at Awasi Atacama for 4 nights in September to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We had looked at numerous hotels in the area, but what made us decide to stay at Awasi was our customer service experience with Caitlin before we booked. While other hotels sent us a brochure with very little information, Caitlin set up a telephone call with us to answer our questions. She continued respond to all of our questions up until our stay. After reviewing some of the Tripadvisor reviews, we had pretty high expectations, but the room, quality of the meals and the staff exceeded all expectations. Everyone there was wonderful, and it would be a long list to name them all, but we really appreciated Pablo's attention to detail in the restaurant, Sofia’s cocktail creations, and how everyone remembered small things like whether we liked still or sparkling water, etc. Victor, our guide took us on excursions we will remember forever. Our advice: you may have some specific ideas about what you would like to do, but if you provide some general direction and trust your guide, you won't be disappointed. By the end of our trip, we decided to "always trust Victor". :) He even showed me how to use the compass of my Apple Watch to track the altitude on our hikes. We noted before our stay that we wanted to go horseback riding, be in nature and see lots of animals. We saw Flamingos the first day, and did an unforgettable moon valley hike in the afternoon. In the evening, we were lucky to see Jupiter at a time it was closest to the earth since 1963! We rode horses the next day, and did a very cool hike in the Guatin valley. On our last day, we did a full day tour of El Tatio, and saw lots of animals. On one hike, I accidentally stepped in water and my hiking boots were soaking wet and filled with sand. Victor called ahead and made sure my hiking boots would be clean and dried before our next adventure, and at dinner Brian checked in with us as well and my boots came back cleaner than they originally were. Note in September, the weather goes from freezing to 20+ degrees C so definitely make sure to pack for all seasons. Juan Pablo and the kitchen team prepared delicious vegetarian meals, filled with local ingredients everyday. As vegetarians, we were given a full menu of items to try at every meal, unlike many places that may only give you one vegetarian option. On a couple occasions, we were lucky to be the first to try one their brand new vegetarian creations. Paired with Alvaro's wine choices, these meals were unforgettable. Also try his detox teas. They were wonderful after a large meal. There were also many “surprises” along the way that were unexpected and definitely made our stay special. Even after we checked out, we were given a box lunch, which we enjoyed outside while waiting for our connecting flight in Santiago. If you have a bit of time at the international airport, there is a really nice outdoor space between the two terminals to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. We feel very blessed to have stayed here, and would not hesitate to return.

This is a truly stunning, amazing resort that is in a league of its own. It's the best hotel my wife or I have ever had the pleasure of staying at, and I say that with a very high level of confidence having stayed at a number of high end properties over the years. Let me cut to the chase on my reasoning - the staff is what makes Awasi Atacama as good as it is. Everyone, from our guide, to the restaurant staff, to the housekeepers, to the front of the house and management, wanted to make our experience here as perfect as possible. Yes, the adobes and the grounds are gorgeous, the food is amazing, as is the Atacama and all the wonderful excursions we took part in. But it really is the staff that I think makes Awasi as special as it is. Alvaro's wine pairings were just amazing with dinner each day - highlighting some of the best of Chile's wine, showing how versatile it is. Pablo runs a great front of the house for the kitchen and even helped us with our Spanish when we wanted some tips. Sofia the "bar mom" (as our guide put it so accurately on the first day) created delicious welcome drinks with dinner each day and some great pool drinks during the afternoons following excursions. The kitchen - it's like going to a Michelin star restaurant every evening, and I don't think that's an exaggeration, either. Just look at the pictures here and elsewhere of some of their creations. Even "Cat Stevens", the resident feline, welcomed us at dinner most nights :). Our excursion guide and drivers were equally amazing and we really got a sense of the Atacama over the four nights we were in the area. We cycled, hiked at elevations higher than Mt. Rainier, ate breakfasts near Lascar Volcano and El Tatio, stargazed amongst the clearest skies in the world, and took a dip in a salt lagoon. My wife and I have more amazing pictures from the four days in the Atacama than we do from trips to Hawaii, Europe, and even the Grand Canyon. I can't overemphasize how nice it was to have a private guide each day. Let me give you an example of the staff's desire to please. We wanted to do a sunset at the last minute, mentioned it casually to our guide. They were able to arrange that at the drop of a hat by finding an available guide, and sent us out to a beautiful, secluded place near Laguna Cejar with a charcuterie plate and wine. All just arranged on our behalf because we thought it might be nice to see a sunset - and indeed, it was! Going in, I had sky high expectations and even with those initial hopes, they were exceeded across the board. If Awasi is in your price range, booking here is a really easy decision. It'll be one of those experiences that you'll cherish for the rest of your life.

This was our second visit to the Atacama and we loved the Awasi. The fact that it is a small boutique hotel means you get excellent, personalized service. The staff were amazing…every time we came back from an expedition we were greeted warmly. The rooms are very comfortable and private and you have both an indoor and outdoor shower. Laundry service is efficient. The food and drinks were great also, including the special barbecue. Wine pairings at dinner from the knowledgeable wine staff were really good. We had a wonderful private guide and vehicle and planned each day’s activities with her in advance. The altitude isn’t bad and they make sure you acclimate to the expeditions gradually…we went to see the El Tatio geyser field one day at almost 14,000 feet and had no problem (BTW, no need to go at sunrise as they are amazing later in the day as well and no one is there! Thanks to our guide for this tip). We didn’t walk around town much but you are located right in the middle of San Pedro. Travel tip for September: it can be very very cold on some of the expeditions at altitude if the wind is blowing. We wore wool base layers, thick fleece and both a down vest and down jacket with gloves, beanie, and ski type neck gaiter. We even brought the little ski style packaged hand warmers and used them. All in all, an excellent stay and highly recommended.

We travelled with my husband and our 4 kids. The trip was wonderful from beginning to end. We stayed in Awasi Atacama the first week of July. Every excursion, the guides, the food, the rooms, the service was a delight! At one point my 19 year old son got sick because of the altitude and needed to visit the local medical center. A member of the Awasi staff, Christopher, was there with us the whole time to make sure we had everything we needed. Even in trying circumstances, Awasi stepped up and provided the 5 star treatment we were used to receive.

My fiance and I stayed at Awasi Atacama for our honeymoon. The Awasi experience is nothing short of top tier, and Atacama especially is a truly magical place. The staff was so friendly, every meal was five-star and the excursions were thrilling. I would absolutely recommend a stay at Awasi for anyone looking for both a serene oasis and an epic adventure all at once.

I have travelled the world and have stayed in my share of amazing hotels. Awasi Atacama is in a league of its own. It is truly one of the best hotels in the world with an unparalleled level of service, food and experiences. This was my second time there and it has only gotten better. The staff and guides are exceptional and although a small boutique hotel there was not a single guest who did not express the same sentiments about the place. The Atacama Desert is extraordinary but made more so by the delight of returning each day to the care and comfort of this unique, amazing place.

Awasi Atacama is at least a 10-star hotel. In a category of its own, Awasi's food, villas, service, and experiences are unmatched by any other hotel in the area. Every villa comes with its own guide and a 4x4 vehicle to take you to any excursion you wish to do. Completely private. Completely taylor-made. To me, that luxury of privacy on your own time is worth every penny. And don't even get me started on food! Chef Juan Pablo and his team make every meal a Michelin star experience. They are, afterall, a Relais&Chateaux property. The staff have become our friends, and we cannot wait to see them again soon!

It is obvious from before you even arrive they are looking to understand what type of vacation you are location for and then delivering well beyond your expectations. Adjusting to your every request and delivering a level of service I've never seen before. All while you are in the middle of the Atacama desert. It started with our guide, Mabel. She was so thoughtful, funny, and genuinely wanted to show you the world of the Atacama Desert. We climbed a dormant volcano, hiked along/in a river bed, rode horses, and swam in the salt lakes. We went with more adventurous excursions and very thankful we did. Food and beverage. We had breakfast delivered every morning but one morning I woke up a little early and went to the restaurant and before I could even order our coffee drinks, they read to me the coffee drinks we ordered every morning to confirm I wanted them again. It is a little thing, but shows the level of detail they go to. I asked for no olives on one of the entrees, I never saw another olive again. The food is absolutely incredible. Such flavor and there isn't a single thing on the menu you'll be let down by. Great bartender in David. The service from Max, Alvero, Aljandro, Frenanda, Connie, Ericka...I'm sure I'm missing a few but they all deliver top level service without making it feel "stuffy". Very fun and personal. The hotel is beautiful, calm...and when the stars were out, sitting by the fires and drinking wine was so peaceful. Loved every moment and cannot wait to enjoy the other Awasi resorts and likely coming back to Atacama. Staying at the Awasi is the move to make when in San Pedro.

I was lucky to stay at all 3 Awasi properties on my trip to South America. Awasi Atacama is a bit different from the others in that it is central in town. It is an easy walk to shopping and restaurants (not that you need to - the best one is at Awasi!). Obviously what sets Awasi apart from other places is your private guide and excursions. My guide (Alonso) was fantastic. We did a few hikes, saw the geysers and the sunset out in the desert. They even set up a star gazing excursion for me despite it being a bit out of season. Whatever you want or need - Awasi will do. The service is top notch and amazing. I could not have asked for anything more. Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant to the drivers were always ready with a smile. I can't recommend Awasi enough!!
