10/10: among the friendliest, homiest, most fun places I stayed in the course of a two month trip through Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Fabiola goes out of her way to make you feel at home, and provides you with absolutely great information about San Pedro and available activities/tours (and helps tailor them to your interests based on where you've been already), and she also arranges fun and interesting events for hostel guests several evenings per week, like city tours and Pisco sour class! Rooms are simple but clean and comfy, shared spaces are great for meeting other guests (or just for relaxing), and kitchens (that's right, more than one kitchen!) are well-equipped and a great way to save some money on meals if you're traveling on a budget! Highly, highly recommended - I'd be more than happy to return to Backpackers San Pedro any time (I don't think I'd even look anywhere else in town to be honest). Also, this would be a great place to volunteer - if only my trip had been a bit longer!…

What made this hostel experience so great was the host, Fabiola. She is so passionate about making sure that tenants get the most out of their stay in San Pedro de Atacama. She booked us tours, recommended sights (and how to pair them to reduce travel time), told us about the "local spots", and even drew us maps so that we could find remote sights.

This is a really cute hostel with a friendly atmosphere and a lovely outdoor area to relax, as well as nice, clean rooms. Fabiola went above and beyond to make all her guests feel welcome and booked all of our tours for us, giving really helpful advice on what to do without trying to sell them to us. I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone travelling to Atacama!

The manager is super helpful and friendly. There are two well stocked kitchens. It’s a little out of town, but not too inconvenient. Facilities were kept quite clean by volunteers who are also cool. Nice place to hang out.

Lovely little hostel in the middle of San Pedro. Super chilled out with hammocks and tiny pool. Bar area etc all a bit hippy so super laid back. No breakfast unless requested but 2 kitchen areas. Great value for money.

“Dirty, dusty and a little shambolic” This was the consensus of several other travellers we were with at the hostel. The bedrooms are far too small, very few plug sockets in the rooms. No where to store bags and stuff but the floors. Kids running a mock around the place - everywhere is dirty and there are cats meowing all the time. They say they have a 12pm noise curfew.. but heard screaming kids and people on our roof way past midnight. Flies everywhere - showing how dirty the place is. Bathroom filthy - blood on shower curtain and sticky floors. Beds are uncomfy and very squeaky. Staff at the hostel are very nice however - the only good thing.

The place is a bit far away from the city centre and a bit difficult to find but once you are inside it becomes a really cosy place where to stay. Staff is really helpful and patient, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are really good. They have a fully equipped kitchen where to cook and a fantastic bar and restaurant where there is always people to chat with and activities to due. In addition, they have bikes for renting that becomes a really easy and nice way to discover the surroundings of the village. I totally recommend this hostel in San Pedro.

Although hard to find since there is no sign outside, this is a cozy and clean hostel. The kitchen is a little small but usable. Rooms are a bit cold in the winter and some can be noisy as they are located to shared facilities such as the kitchen. Good choice for this very interesting area of the Atacama Desert.

+ clean + friendly staff + strong (!) wifi + bonfire / chilled out + allows card payments for a fee + hammocks - no breakfast included - bit outside, ie 7min walk to the centre - private rooms do not get cleaned for the duration of your stay (at least for me, stayed c 6 nights) => definitely recommend

Located a short walk from the plaza in San Pedro this hostel turned out to be perfect for our three nights stay in the desert. Small dorms but honestly you don’t spend much time there anyways. Two kitchens. Two backyards, one with tv and hammocks and one with a small pool, bonfire, and perfect chill out area. It says all over the hostel that you’re not allowed to drink alcohol but that was never a problem as long as you kept quite after midnight (due to early tours for most guests). More bathrooms with showers would’ve been preferable. A little overpriced but I’m sure it’s in line with most hostels in Atacama. Would absolutely recommend staying here while you’re in San Pedro.
