Come to Enjoy the French Style : UNIQUE in Battambang !
If you are travelling to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, I recommend a visit to Battambang, to have a better sense of the "real" Cambodia in the sense that unlike Siem Reap it is not a town oriented around tourism, but a bustling and prosperous provincial town. And within Battambang, Au Cabaret Vert is a haven--a peaceful and beautiful boutique hotel with natural salt-water pool. The restaurant serves exquisite Khmer and French food, and has a good wine list. The staff were very helpful and arranged for us an excellent full-day cycling tour of the countryside with Soksabike.
We booked 5 nights and stayed 2 months ...comfortably installed in the bungalows next to the swimming pool. The hotel staff is extremely kind and goes the extra mile. Top kitchen as well with local and western dishes....and if it is not on the menu..just ask. Breakfast made to order The resort has some apartments for long term rentals. The location also excellent ..close to everything The staff goes the extra me for the well being of their customers so you end up with a family feeling. We will be back soon and thanks to accommodate us 6 stars ... in this special times
The pool is quite small and adequate for about 10 adults soaking, good to cool down in on a 35 C day, especially as it has shady areas. As it is a natural pool, your skin won't smell like chlorine. Our drinks of beer, juice and a soft drink, had no ice and only the beer was served in a cold glass. We had chicken cordon bleu, chicken and bacon with mashed potato, and chicken and bacon with French fries. The first two looked attractive and tasted great. The chicken cordon bleu had very plastic cheese which brought it down from excellent to average. The chicken, bacon and French fries arrived barely warm with the vegetables cold. The chicken was presented mixed through/on top of the (soft) French fries, with a rich sauce poured over them both. There was no bacon. On calling the wait staff the plate of food was microwaved and was now hot. Unfortunately the fries were soggy and no longer crisp. When I asked about the bacon, I was told the chicken was cooked in the pan with it. Hmm, my friend had more bacon then they could eat plus onion. Mine was very different. In conclusion its a beautiful pool setting. The chicken and bacon with mashed potato is delicious, and the chicken cordon bleu is average.…
What I loved about my stay at Cabaret vert : - the friendly staff and extremely nice owner, Mathieu - the luxurious garden with many flowers - the natural pool (no chemicals, the water cleans itself with plants, so don’t be surprised by the color) ; apparently they will change it to a salted pool some time soon It is the perfect place if you are looking to relax and take your trip easy. I would always do some activity either in the morning or in the afternoon, and spend the rest of my day napping by the pool.
Mathew and team were absolutely lovely! We have traveled extensively in the region and our stay was by far one of the best we’ve had anywhere. The gardens are beautiful and the place has such a relaxed vibe. Truly is an oasis within Battambang. The staff were extremely helpful with all and any requests we had. The food was great value and had plenty of veg/vegan options to choose from. Mathew, the owner, checked in with us personally each day. On Valentines Day he even serenaded my wife and I during dinner with his saxophone. We didn’t want to leave! If you like low-key, small, service oriented places then look no further.
Beautiful garden area and natural pool. A lovely place to relax. Very nice menu, a little pricy but you get what you pay for. Ambient and relaxing it's a nice place to escape the dust and heat. The staff are most friendly and accommodating.
We were very please by the accommodation of this wonderfull hotel. Staff were always there to help and food was very good. It was very easy to go around the city using the local tuktuk and discover the market, heritage buildings in Battambang.
We stayed next door at Moloppor Villa which is a much more charming boutique hotel. So we came here one evening to have dinner. They have Cambodian dishes but mainly focus on upmarket French cuisine. Overall we found it a bit overrated!
The garden area around the accommodation is lovely and a relief from the dust. Battenbang is a $2 journey away in a tuktuk. We used Jackie Chan. The hotel has his number. He was very reliable and took us around throughout our stay. The rooms were fine but need updating. The sink was very cracked and on arrival the plug was stuck. The plug was mended then water went straight from the tap to the bathroom floor. I reported this to a member of staff and nothing was done. Problems on and off with the air con. The breakfast is fine but the same every day unless you pay for extras. A bit of variety would be good. The pool is eco which is great but we were a bit put off by the green colour. We asked for details of the bamboo train and the staff knew nothing about it so we had to source information elsewhere. Jackie took us. On departure although we had paid some time ago via a well known company there was confusion about whether we had paid or not. We had written confirmation but confusion reigned. There were no Managers about. This meant my husband missed most of his breakfast as we had a bus to catch and we were kept waiting. It was sorted eventually but we could have done without it. Hotel needs to up its game in a few areas.…
A great place to stay in Battambang . The garden is stunning, the room are well-arranged and super clean, the food is excellent (delicious amok and eggplant with pork). Staff attentive and caring. Very high standard for a decent price.
