If staying in Kawthaung again, I would probably return to this hotel. It was cheap, fairly quiet and in a good location. I was allowed to check in on arrival at 12 noon. My main complaint was the room I was given - room 224. It had no window and I was told that since I had only paid for a "single room", I could not use the air conditioner. So, only a ceiling fan to circulate the stale air in the room.

Staff don't speak much English or Thai, but they tried to be reasonably helpful. Included breakfast was instant coffee, toast and a boiled egg.

This is a great little, down-to-earth hotel in the heart of Kawthaung's old town. The rooms are simple, clean and air-conned. Their managers are friendly and very happy to help. They organised transport and a local guide for us and answered all the touristy questions we had. Can only recommend the place!

The room was clean and nice - the hotel was a pleasant surprise.

There is plenty of "Penguin Hotel" signs around the city, so it was easy to find the road back to the hotel.

Staff was helpful and kind.

Wifi worked well. I have nothing to complain.

Great restaurant on the hill of victoria point wth view on andaman island.Ownership and staff are just amazing.very accomodating, the room are very clean. There is a little shop very tiny on the first right corner were you can buy your cigare well recommended just for the lady who own the shop. Great hotel:-)

I stayed here for one night hoping to get the boat to Myeik early next morning, as the hotel indicated when I booked. Well there was no boat so ended up doing a 13 hour overnight minivan trip. The hotel itself was ok - clean, quiet and in a good location. Wifi was ok if you sat in the lobby but not so good if many people were online. I advise people travelling in Myanmar to buy an ooredoo sim and just top up. It is very cheap and there is good coverage and bandwidth. You save time and it is very convenient to book hotels and go online.

After a month riding motorbikes throughout Southern Myanmar it was nice to get a real bed :-)
Nice staff, good breakfast, free wifi, quiet location (we got an upstairs room and made sure it was not on the side of any mosque)

Nobody seemed to speak much/any English here, fortunately on day 2 the manager(?), a very helpful guy, assisted us and answered our questions in detail. Single rooms were tiny, rabbit-hutch like places but mine had a window and was clean enough. Cold water shower & fan for $20. The double rooms looked a bit more spacious. Western-style breakfast included, nice little communal area for dining/drinking//chatting. Wi-fi was sketchy. Short walk into the center of town where you can dine at the street stands. Whatever you do, DO NOT take the Fortuna Express boat to Myeik. It was close to freezing in the boat, and there was awful music blarign the entire 7 1/2 hour trip.

Considering how overpriced lodging is on Burma (lots of demand, no supply) the single room w/fan for $12 is pretty good. The place is clean and the staff friendly. If only they had hot water in the rooms then this would rate much higher

Just the best place in town. It is not at the water front like Honey Bear, but that place is pretty run down.
