Terrible food in the hotel’s restaurant. We had a table of five, we ordered different things. For three of us food came after 15 minutes, for the fourth persone came after 25 min and for the last one after 50 minutes!!!!! If they can’t take care of a table of five in the same time, then they should just close it or train the COOK!!! Don’t order Chicken risotto, PLEASE DON’T!
Bedroom windows overlooking Fortress was the one and only good feature. Stale smelling. No kettle, no safety box, no instructions on how to use the climate control or TV's either. When I finally figured out how to, everything was in Bulgarian despite the fact that most customers were Italian, Spanish or French or Chinese speakers Breakfast was chaotic: not enough bowls, or stuff. The staff pulled our dishes before we could finish. Cutlery was also missing. Dinner was a bit better but not by much.
We loved this hotel. Our room was spacious - almost a suite. It had a fantastic view over the old fortifications which are illuminated at night. Dinner was served on the open air terrace with the same view. Staff were friendly and helpful.
A 3 star hotel perched on the ridge overlooking the Fortress. Ask for a fortress view room. The view is fantastic especially at night once the fortress is lit up. Room is spacious with a full size bed which was very comfortable. There are a couple of not very comfortable arm chairs and a coffee table, if you have time to sit and relax or read. Bathroom comes with basic amenities. The bedroom carpet looked like it could do with a good clean. They don't provide room slippers so the tiled bathroom floor can get a bit cold. The safe in the room is fixed at the back of the wardrobe so can be accessed only if you are 5ft 8inches or taller!! Room comes with free wifi. There are 2 sets of elevators, one with a panaromic view, though you have to climb a flight of stairs round the corner from the lobby and then again a flight of steps to whichever floor your room is on. Funny set up, but probably because this lift was put in after the building was completed. Breakfast came included with the room and is served in the restaurant which is a flight of steps down from the lobby. So be prepared in case you have difficulty with stairs. Breakfast had a reasonably good choice of food, fruits and drinks.…
In the center of the Bulgaria, there is the beautiful city of Veliko Tarnovo. The downtown is very good, especially the old town. There are a lot of attractions, restaurants and hotel. I have a comfortable room in this hotel. The spa is magic.
