We were scheduled to stay but when we arrived, the street was torn up with construction that the city had started with no warning. The site was nearly inaccessible and no water between 8 am and 5 pm as a result of construction. The owner waited for our arrival (late), had tried multiple times to reach me to warn us but I was not checking my email so didn't get message. We stayed one night due to the late arrival but then moved to another hotel. She was very very sorry and accommodating and we truly felt sorry for her predicament. One can always tell good service by how a business owner handles a problem, and she did all that she could. That said, once we settled in, we discovered that the air con did not work in our attic room and there was no one on site to fix it as the staff had gone home.

We received a nice, friendly welcome and were upgraded to a larger room which was much appreciated. Quite old and traditional but well maintained and kept very clean. Good location near to the fortress and round from some great bars and restaurants. Basic breakfast. Best value laundry service outside of Asia!

The location is superb and our room was clean and well supplied. The downside was that we couldn't get the heaters to work so the room was very cold at night and in the morning. Also, we wanted to leave our bags at reception after check out while we explored the town before our train. However we were told that the hotel didn't allow that. I explained that every hotel I've ever stayed in provides this simple courtesy, and the receptionist responded with an awful attitude. So we had to lug our bags around town before our evening train. An appalling piece of mis-management so beware.

Nice little hotel midway between the town centre and the fortress. Independent and family-run, it does the job if you need a low-cost, no-fuss stay. Few luxuries - I haven’t seen a cathode ray TV for many years but our room had one! - but you don’t need them as you should be out exploring the city.

It's a typical budget hotel but really well managed by friendly staff. 10-15 walk from the bus station and minutes walk to the fortress. Comfy room and clean attached bathroom. Breakfast was standard fare.
