This hotel has rooms, studios and appartments. We got a studio (although we paid for junior suite), with a doble bed and one bed more made from an armchair which was very uncomfortable and made noise on every move of the body, which was the reason we couldn’t sleep the first night. We asked for appartment with normal third bed (because our daughter is 17, and needs it) instead of this studio and improvised bed, but the hotel said they don’t have free appartment. At the end the cleaning lady gave us a better mettress and it was better, but still making noise. The bathroom and the furniture were old. We couldn’t open the doors of the closet. But is was really hot. We could use the pool and the gym, but not the sauna, nor the steam bath, which was ridiculous. The pool was small and the gym was ok. The food was good with many choices for breakfast and for dinner. The hotel has a good position towards the slopes, which means one can easily approach Martinovi baraki (by walking 5 minutes) or the gondola to Markudzik and Jastrebets (by skiing downhill for 1 minute). Also there is a van (Borosport) that takes you from the gondola to Jastrebets slopes in 5 minutes, which is very convenient and faster compared to the gondola. The hotel didn’t clean well the stairs and the approach to the hotel and it was not easy to walk with ski boats on ice.

Decent hotel, food was really good :there was only one night I didn't fancy the choice for dinner and I'm really picky. Bacon, sausage and 3 types of eggs for breakfast every day or cereal or cold continental... Excellent choice. The staff were lovely and the room was clean and warm. The pool was a nice touch aswell. Very pleased

Recommended by friends which turned out to be excellent advice. Basic, clean and spacious double bed apartment ideal for our ski holiday week as close to slopes and facilities.Intended to self-cater but didn't because hotel breakfast was excellent and close to bars, cafes and restaurants offering a huge range of European and Asian foods at reasonable prices.I think we will be back here again.

Its difficult to evaluate ski resorts as their product is different from the standard business hotels. (We paid 1000 eur for a room with half board for 6 days )

But there are some minimum standards that need to be observed. My main comment is that the majority of the staff has a really unfriendly attitude to clients. The ones who were really non responsive / rude/ always saying NOOOO/ were then ones from the reception.

Can we check out later? NOOOOO (it was quite theatrical as the guy was holding his hands in the pockets during our conversation)

Could you please repair the phone in the room? Well I ll inform the technician and it will be done. / as a result the phone has never been repaired and we used our personal phones to call the reception which actually was recommended by the reception too)

The mattress was really worn out and we requested a top up

These are only quite a few examples of my shorts chats with the reception

I was quite disrupted by the lack of help from the reception . I think when you spend 160 eur per night in a 4 star hotel you should receive some minimum service.

My overall assessment is quite negative and I wouldn’t recommend any stays there as a price value ratio is quite low and the staff is very disappointing and insulting.

Favorite place of residence for many years. Pleasant atmosphere, attentive and caring staff, very convenient location to the ski lifts and the center of Borovets.
Half board with excellent cuisine, original events on holidays.

Flora hotel is a small hotel adjoining the Flora Apartments. It is close to slopes and a 5 min walk to gondola and chair lifts.

Hotel is clean, modern by Boro standards, with cosy bar area with log fire. There is a bank next door with two cashpoints and a small supermarket 50 yds away.
The main complaint was the food. ( Well some surprise there ) As with other comments on food in Boro it was always cold or just warm.

Breakfast: cold eggs, cold fatty bacon, cold sausages, cold tomatoes cold baked bean etc. This was a little strange as all above sat in a bain marie that appeared to be hot. The Head Waiter always keen to get your room number, remained unconcerned by comments about cold food. Similarly tea bags, milk and bread ran out regularly. They were rarely replaced. The usual ham, salami cheese option was available.
There was copious fruit available. Evening meal similar, cold deep fried meat and fish, rice and cold chips. A microwave appeared towards at the end of the week.
One of the bar staff strangely spent all day on the customer side of the bar playing non stop computer soliaire. It was possible to sit waiting to be served while the solitaire continued, morning pm and evening. No one seemed to care.

Bedroom was OK but curtains didnt fit the windows and provided no darkness. Sheets didnt fit the bed and often found you were waking up on the mattress.
Ski instructor called Angel from Borosport was brilliant. He took no prisoners. After a short downhill test straight to the top, by day 2 skiing down mountain 3 times on red and black runs. Great fun

My boyfriend and I booked here for a week in March, the snow and the slopes were great for first timers such as ourselves. The resort is cheap and there is a mix of posh and rough bars & restaurants.
The Flora was an OK choice, the rooms were very smoky, the bathroom wasn't exactly great - we had a shower with half a shower curtain so every time you showered the bathroom flooded!
The food was typically Bulgarian, served luke warm. The food would vary depending what time you went for dinner as a few couples from our boarding group staying in the same hotel would have something completely different to us.
Breakfast was typically European but had a microwave so you could warm your food up if you wanted.
The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from the slopes which wasn't to far.

We had a great instructor, sevillen, he was great!! If you get him you know your in for a great week of boarding/skiing!

We are just back from our Skiing holiday in Bulgaria having stayed at this hotel. We have been to Borovets before and stayed at the Rila, which was OK, however, the Flora is definitely a cut above!

Before I go on, I would like to caveat this review with a bit of common sense. We paid just over £1300 for two people for 7 nights, half board. This included Ski Hire, Flights,Transfers to and from the airport and lift passes for both of us! - Very Cheap!!

A four star hotel in Bulgaria is not the same as a 4* in the UK! BUT...

The room was warm. The beds were better than the Rila. The room was clean and spacious. We were on the 7th floor and didn't hear a thing once the room door was closed! Oh - just one thing! The bed squeaked very badly if you - erm, moved about on it a lot (if you know what I mean!)

The food was warm - never hot, but that what we have learned to expect in Bulgaria as they believe it is unhealthy to eat your food at a high temperature. There was an amazing choice! I am not a fussy eater and I love salad, so I was catered to at an impeccable standard. Some of the dishes look a bit 'strange', but then you're not in the UK so don't expect a UK diet when you're abroad! All the food was tasty and you could opt for a plate of meat and chips (albeit a bit soggy if they've been sitting around) or fish and chips if you are not too adventurous. (This standard was the same for both Breakfast and Evening meals).

We went down to the dinning room at different times every day and always had plenty of choice and they never seemed to run out of anything.

The staff are 'friendly'. Well, at least some of them are! They work hard and are not all smiles all of the time, but I'm pretty sure that's just their way!

Ski Hire - we went on a package with Crystal, so we picked our ski up from the Depot opposite the Rila, which is quite a walk in Ski boots. We therefore opted to store our skis and boots in the storage under the hotel. (Walk around the corner of the basement, on the same level as the Irish bar (nothing Irish about it BTW!) and through a door at the end and you're there). You can hire from these guys too, if Skis don't come with the price of your trip. They charged us 20 Lev to store (for both of us, for the week). They were friendly and efficient.

Drinks - two pints of Beer in the hotel will cost you 6 lev. (About £2.34).

There is 'juice' available at breakfast, but it is more like squash! However, you will have a fridge in your room and can pick up a litre of fresh orange, apple, grapefruit juice ect. at the local supermarket for about a £1. So you don't need to miss out.

Take a kettle! Take Tea Bags - not easy to find decent ones in the town. We also took coffee and hot chocolate, but we could have picked this up in the resort. We also bought milk, wine and Vodka, but hey, we were on holiday!

Take a hair drier!

Towels are provided for the pool and spa area, so you don't need these.

To use the whirlpool, you will pay 6 lev each for 20 mins! We only went once, but were VERY impressed with this. It's an amazing bit of kit and will give you a great pummelling, which is just the job for those aching muscles. On other words, it's not to be confused with a bubbly bath, more like a Swedish massage really!

The resort is busy and on your doorstep! You have an amazing choice of bars and restaurants. We opted for Joy (at the bottom of the cable car) for lunch drinks and rest stops. Sunny's for our night eating out! (We had the ribs - and were very happy with one portion between the two of us! - so it worked out very cheap (about 50 lev for ribs, dessert and the local Bulgarian Red wine)). For night life, we opted for BJ's Bar (that seems to have a constant happy hour, is busy and lively!)

Over all, we had a truly fabulous holiday experience! If you are just on the way out, I'm incredibly jealous, as they've just had a HUGE dumping of snow - you are in for a real treat!

We arrived at the Flora apartments in Borovets in December 2007 for a 7 day ski holiday for New Year. 3 of the 4 people in our party had never put on a ski boot before and one was an intermediate skier with great reservations and negative preconceptions about the resort.
After driving past lots of dodgy erotic bars in the coach we were expecting Borovets to be awful but were pleasantly surprised.
The reception staff were helpful and organised our room key swiftly. A lady took us to our apartment in the Muy Lily block behind the main hotel - you do have to trail your bag up and down steps in the snow though so be warned! Our apartment was clean and spacious with a great balcony (for the smoker in our party!) and good views towards the woods. We had a kitchen but as we were half board there was nothing in it, not even a bottle opener! Our breakfast and evening meal were provided in the hotel's Irish bar. The breakfast was acceptable but the evening meals were pretty awful with cold, unappetising food and poor bar service so we ate elsewhere every night. There is a pool which we used once - it was ok, not very big though and full of dive-bombing kids. The hotel itself is fairly modern with a nice bar in one of the apartment blocks. The location is good as it's about a 5 minute walk to the gondola and the ski shack and about 5 minutes to the chair lift the other way.
We found some good places to eat and drink - the Blue Bar, the Salamander, the Alpine and the Black Cat are all good, not pricey and with good service. Frankos is also reasonable food - especially the pizzas. Hot wine and chocolate brandy are a must after long ski days.
Ski school is good value for money as the 4 hours tuition doesn't start until you actually start to ski - the 25 minute gondola ride doesn't count. The skiing was good for all of us - we all improved a lot over the week and my intermediate friend said she enjoyed the skiing immensely and thought the snow was better than France. The ski store was well-organised too and the people were helpful overall.
Be warned - if you book to go to Sofia on the last day you may freeze to death! We booked it thinking we would be on a coach tour and ended up standing outside churches (for what seemed like hours) when it was minus 17 degrees outside. We hadn't realised that it is much colder in Sofia than in the resort itself. Think we'd give it a miss next time and spend the day chilling in Borovets with a few hot wines before flying home!
Overall we had a great holiday - good accomodation, great skiing and enough decent bars to occupy us for a week. We've booked again to stay in the Flora next New Year but will be giving the food a miss this time and going B&B.

Just got back from our ski holiday in Borovets. We stayed at Flora hotel, at the older part of the hotel. Our room was small, clean and warm ( maybe too hot, but than you can switch off the radiators ). We had a small shower, and the only thing that I missed was a hairdryer. I was before in hotels that have 4 stars, and I think that Flora hotel is somewhere in between 3 and 4 stars, but its a good choice considering what we had payed. It has a good location 3 minutes walk from the ski slopes. The food was ok, only thing that I didnt like was how they prepare the chicken, but you can chose always something else to eat. I would recommend this hotel for families with little children because they have playground ( kindergarten ) in the hotel and also outside the hotel. They gave us a baby bad for our baby and they didnt charge this as an extra cost ( as they do in some other hotels ).The stuf was also nice and willing to help.
