We had an excellent time at the Samakov hotel. The trip was excellent value for money. Being such a cheap package deal we had very low expectations but were incredibly surprised at the great service. The food was nice with lots of options. The hotel has loads of facilities and is well thought out for practicalities, such as plenty of space for clothes, skis, boots and coats. The twin room was nice and roomy with a great room. The hotel is opposite the Gondola for the intermediate slopes which was perfect for us. We went to the pool and had massages and nails done at the in house spa which again was excellent. Would definitely recommend for those looking for a good deal. Borovets itself is also a great resort for relaxed skiing.

We stayed here for 5 nights, it was very well priced with breakfast included. It is a little dated but all very functional. The room was fine and had a balcony which was a nice touch. Rooms serviced every day. Only weird thing was the lack of powerpoints by the bed.... we had to use the TV socket and one other spare socket on the other side of the room! Included breakfast is ok, nothing flash but does the job. The hotel is still stuck in the soviet era but from its looks but staff are nice enough and the on site spa /massage was great! Indoor pool and jacuzzi are great after a long day on the slopes. The bowling alley was good fun too on our down days. Main gondola is stumbling distance from the hotel entrance, you can just about ski in and out (if you dont mind crossing a road and scratching your skis!) Would stay again, recommended for the price and value!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing the gondola for great sunset views!

Worst hotel that I have stayed in, we did get it for cheap through crystal but still don’t think it was worth what we paid. The hotel is very outdated and the beds are awful, ended up leaving with a bad back from the beds. On our first day on the slopes we got back to our room and the cleaners hadn’t locked the room after they’d been in it, when we informed the reception they didn’t seem to care. Only benefit to this hotel is that it is right next to the gondola. It was advertised as ski in-ski out but it isn’t. The ski resort itself is really good and will return again but next time we will spend the extra to stay in hotel rila!

I would rate the Balkan Holidays Rep( Her name is Prolet ) with 5 stars. She is amazing, very gentle, very helpful and organised. Thank You Balkan Holidays for the great experience, this is not going to be our only holiday with you. We are looking to book another holiday with you very soon. Highly recommended. We had some issues with the room, but Prolet managed to solve them in a very kindly manner. Look for her if you have any issues. She is situated at Samokov Hotel, Borovets resort. Probably the hotel is not exactly 4 stars, but 3, but it has everything you need- great and warm swimming pool, edible food, spa, ski depot, ski teachers(which are great, English ski instructor- Grace, who is amazing), hairdresser, manicure, pedicure, great lounge...Balkan Holidays organised also our transfer to hotel from airport, which was also good experience. We are still not able to book room with balcony for next visit, but probably they are all occupied and therefore the option can not be chosen. Even without balcony room was nice and warm, also large enough for 3 of us. Toilet and bathroom are separated, which is good. Thank You Balkan Holidays for the great experience.

I read some terrible reviews on this hotel so was not expecting anything palacial, however for what we paid through crystal ski I am very happy with what we got. The location for the slopes is ideal, opposite the main cabin lift or a short interesting walk (6mins) through to the main centre. It's an old hotel and in its day I expect it would have been 4* however it remains the same without modernisation. The reception areas are all clean and spacious. The swimming pool was very clean and hotter than my local David Lloyd centre and free to use. Jacuzzi and massage treatments were cheap although we didn't get around to using them. The food was OK. Breakfast had a fair selection of cereals, fruit, bread, cheese, ham etc. The cooked breakfasts which were also self service were luke warm at best, so I used the microwave to heat mine up. The evening meal had a good selection of salads and a meat or veggie soup. The main food was also tasty enough and warmer than breakfast. We actually had some reasonably good meals and were happy to eat there 4/5 nights. The 5th night we went out for a change. My son is a vegetarian and was able to find choice each day. The covid protocols for staff were fairly poor like the rest of the resort, waiters had the classic uncovered noses and one felt it was a chin warmer. My biggest gripe with the hotel is the paper thin noise insulation in the bedrooms. 5/6 nights I was woken up, and kept up for ages by loud guests coming in drunk and that was with me wearing ear plugs as I had read the reviews before arriving. The ski and snowboard hire centre on site was fine for beginners but could do with some upgrade options for intermediate or advances. Would I go again, yes, but only if I got it again at a good price. Value for money was spot on. The Rila hotel up the road is better placed and looked like 2*s ahead of the Samokov but will cost you more $.
