Just 6 miles down the mountain from Grand Targhee and only 2 miles from breathtaking Teton Canyon, the Teton Teepee Lodge, family owned since 1974, offers you a one of a kind mountain lodge experience. Gather around the sunken, central fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa and share stories of the day, play a game of pool, ping pong or foosball, or just cozy up in one of our 18 private guestrooms with a good book. Whatever your pleasure, the Teton Teepee is the perfect place to kick off your boots after a day of adventure in the Tetons.
Excellent stay at the Tepee and Maddox cabin! Perfect fit for our family of four. We were overtaken by the charm and patina from this inimitable vintage setting. This experience is not by accident. It is thoughtfully curated by its wonderful hosts, Dan and Alma. They were genuinely friendly, offered great guidance for our trip, and went above and beyond on several occasions during our stay. We’ll be back.
My husband and I had an excellent stay at the Teton Teepee Lodge. It is well located to go skiing at the Grand Targhee Resort. Dan and Alma are great hosts - they are very friendly and make you feel 'at home' with their warm hospitality. And then there is the resident dog, Lizzy, who welcomes you every time you come home. :) She is a sweet Swiss Mountain Dog.
They feed you delicious breakfast, which includes Dan's phenomenal muffins. The rooms are not big but the common area of the lodge is so spacious that you won't spend that much time in your room. There are dining tables and comfortable chairs/couches to lounge in throughout the common area. There is also a beautiful fire place in the center of the lodge. You have access to community refrigerator, microwave and electric kettle throughout the day, so it's easy to make a meal if you don't feel like going out to eat. There is a great supermarket in a nearby town of Driggs, ID. Alta, WY is a small, mostly residential town, so you do need to drive to Driggs to get food, groceries, gas etc. If you're arriving late, you might want to pick up something in Driggs before arriving at the lodge.
As for the room itself, we stayed in #17 (one queen bed). We really liked this room.
They also have rooms with two twin beds, if you're traveling with friends, family etc. The floor is heated around the bathroom/sink area, which is really nice in the winter. Water pressure in the shower was great and the bed was super comfy! There is also a boot dryer for your ski/snowboard boots right outside of each guest room. It was nice to step into warm ski boots every morning!
We will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area. In fact, I'm already thinking of staying here for a week next winter and ski Grand Targhee Mon-Fri... ;) So much powder at GT, it was unreal!! Ok, I'll save that for another review.
On a recent solo road trip through Wyoming I stumbled across this place while looking for something affordable near Jackson (250 bucks for Motel 6!? Get over yourself Jackson...). And man am I glad I did. I tend to drive/ramble around a lot so I've stayed at the entire range of interstate exit chain hotels to quirky lodges in the middle of nowhere, but this one really impressed me. Dan and Alma are both awesome, accommodating, and very friendly (Dan actually programmed a route into my phone to get to West Yellowstone the morning I left that ended up being the highlight of my entire trip). The property is unique, well kept, and full of little fun ways to relax after a hard day on the road. My only regret is that I wasn't there during the colder months so I could enjoy the fire pit in the center of the main lobby which looks really amazing. I can not recommend this place highly enough! Thanks again Dan and Alma, you made my entire trip!

All the positives of this amazing place have already been highlighted in previous reviews so I’ll keep this short and sweet: Alma, Dan - our sincere thanks for making our visit to this beautiful part of the US so special. You are the perfect hosts - thank you for allowing us to stay at your special lodge! We will definitely be back for the ski season. Dave and Tracey (The Brits)….

Fantastic time at this one of a kind place the rooms are set around the community area and you get to mingle with other guests. We made new friends. Location location. 5 mike drive to the Grand Teghee ski resort. We took the chair lift and had magnificent views of the west Tetons. The town of Briggs has great food. Perfect stop over on the way to Yellowstone and a lot easier on the pocketbook than Jackson. The owners were great hosts. Very friendly. Great coffee and muffins I. Mornings

Nice place to stay. The room is small, but very clean. No chair(s), no fridge, no TV in the room. You are expected to sit in the round living area, where there are comfortable chairs, couches, a fire place and tables/chairs for breakfast. Breakfast is good, the host is a very nice lady.

We loved this place! We stayed in four different places each night going around the two parks, and this one was by far the best! The room is a modern lodge feel, and it was very clean. We will definitely stay here again on a return trip!

The Teton Tepee is an absolute gem, it feels like the best of what traveling used to be like before everything became corporate and standardized. Solid wood, My daughter picked the Teton Tepee for me to stay when visiting her as one part of her grand plan to get me to fall in love with Alta WY/Driggs ID and move our whole family out there too. I can see why. Many weeks are now permanently booked years ahead, by people who return repeatedly once they experience it, so if you can find availability, take it. Part of the charm is location .. it's right along a river, close to Targhee, XC bike trails and XC ski trails. You can literally start an XC ski or XC bike trip from the lodge, and it's the closest lodge to Targhee. The bigger charm is the central lodge is a a grand wooden yurt but solid wood and surrounded by 18 rooms. It's big enough you could keep entirely to yourself and that's just fine. But the grand central room and fireplace somehow turns a quiet nod "hi" to another guest into a conversations with amazing people. A fellow guest was a grandfather traveling by motorcycle across the US with his wife. No TV, plenty of games, tables, seats, fireplaces, books. The place has a long history, e.g. you can see skis donated by Targhee Ski Patrol in thanks for long service and support. But it's recently updated by the new owners/hosts, and who can point you to the exact right trails to experience. …

This is an awesome place to stay. It’s dog friendly and I highly recommend!! This is a small no frill lodge but it has a lot to offer. The staff is excellent and very knowledgeable about the area. The pastries for breakfast are unbelievable.

We only stayed on night at Teepee. It looks nothing like a teepee as we expected. It is a pouted top lodge with a huge fireplace in the center, several conversation areas and a small breakfast buffet area. The rooms go all the way around the edges and all open into that lodge part. The rooms are small with either one queen or 2 twin beds. No tv, no hair dryers, no frills. Just a sink, toilet and shower. No a/c but the rooms were clean and neat. Seemed expensive to me for what it was.
