Casa Marques is the city's newest artsy house of Rio de Janeiro. Built on the foundations of an old colonial mansion in Santa Teresa, each room has been designed to allow you to enjoy a unique view of the city in an elegant and sophisticated environment. Everything here is centred around art, which is vitally important to us. Contemporary art is our guiding principle.

Casa Marques is situated at the top of Rio, in Santa Teresa. Thus, the view is amazing- to you right is the christ-statue and in front you see the Sugar Loaf mountain. The downside is that it is some distance from the beaches, but the nice infinity pool makes up for that. The casa is filled with modern art, books and decorations- I loved it. The staff are polite and competent and you feel welcomed. The only minus is that the place is small and only serve breakfast, not dinner or lunch. You need to head out to eat at night, or order food.

Casa Marques is a beautiful boutique hotel in Rio‘s Santa Teresa district. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. Especially Marianna was very supportive and did everything to make us feel welcome. The pool on the roof top is an absolute highlight and the best place to enjoy the view over Rio.

Wonderfully friendly staff, only to happy to help on any manner of requests. Great food at breakfast. An infinity pool and deck to die for. We had such a wonderful time and we’re just so gutted we had only booked three nights there and were to late to extend. Our room was large well laid out with cascade shower and bath looking out through floor to ceiling glass over the canopy outside and the view( also shared by the room) of sugarloaf mountain and the sea. Would we come back? YES in a heart beat.

This hotel is a bit difficult to get to and some uber drives might refuse to go all the way there because of the many communities (favelas) in the area. But fear not as it is actually quite easy to get there and really safe too. The views you will get, the warm welcome by everyone, the amazing bed and peaceful pool area are all worth it! We just could not get enough of the views and woke up everyday at 5:30 to watch the sun rise. It was definitely one of the most amazing views I’ve ever experienced and I have traveled extensively! Rio is my birth land and I haven’t visited in more than 20 years. We felt very safe, there were lots of police around the city. We haven’t visited much of Santa Teresa but it’s a very interesting area. The hotel is not walkable anywhere but taxis and uber are cheap to go around. The staff at Casa Marques were really friendly, we ordered ifood in the evenings and their breakfast is really tasty. Anything you need you just have to ask and they will do their best to help. 100% recommend this place!

I spent a weekend break in Rio after a week working in Brasília. I really liked the hotel: great people, great Franco-Brazilian breakfasts. It is about a 45 minute walk from the start of artistic Santa Teresa. Taxi/Uber fares are cheap and I only had one occasion where the failed to find it. It is a half mile walk to the nearest tram stop- and this makes a pleasant way to get down to central Rio (where it connects pretty well with the metro). I tried calling in a delivery meal on my first night. On the other nights I went to the Mercado das Pulgas and Espirito Santa(45 minutes on foot/ten minutes in taxi): both were better options. I jogged on the road one morning: it felt quite safe (not sure I would do it after dark though). One small but: my room was marketed as a “suite”. But it was really just a room. Last thing - the view is incredible.

I'll get the bad news out of the way first. The location is absolutely stunning - but that is a curse as well as a blessing. Casa Marques is up a long winding road, high into Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa was once the preserve of the rich, in the forested hills looking down on Rio. The beautiful houses are still there, some of them converted into boutique hotels (like this one), but some of the spaces in between have been taken over by the less wealthy, and these favelas give Santa Teresa a distinctly 'edgy' feel - to the extent that some taxi drivers refuse to come up the hill. If this is a problem, the hotel has the details for a local taxi co-op who will happily collect you from elsewhere in the city (Santaxi, +55 (21) 25021111). Once you have arrived, the news is all good. the hotel is built around a beautiful (1920's/30's?) house - lots of space and light, with a terrace and small infinity pool on the top floor. the views are to-die-for, with the Corcovado (with the iconic Christ statue) to one side, and the city straight ahead. Our room was large and airy, with the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. Breakfast was fine (cold-cuts, fruit, and omelettes cooked to order) and the staff were friendly and helpful. If you don't fancy venturing out in the evening, they can order take-away food to be delivered. My wife gave me full marks for this one!

My friend and I spent a week in Rio; half the time on Ipanema beach and half the time at this amazing hotel. If you want a different scene from the beach I HIGHLY recommend coming here to see Santa Teresa. It felt safer and much more comfortable in Santa Teresa than near the beaches. The hotel itself is in an old colonial house - and it truly feels like a home with only a handful of guest rooms. There's a gorgeous infinity pool with a view of the Christo and Rio below. The style was a mix of eclectic and mid century modern which was super trendy but warm. The room was huge and even had blue tooth speakers. The food was some of the best in Rio - get the plate of the day every day! Sophia made killer drinks. Paolo was the nicest man ever and even helped us order in food so we could watch Game of Thrones. The only drawback is the hotel is not walkable at all... in fact uber drivers can barely find it. But it's still 20-30 minutes from Rio and 10 minutes from Santa Teresa, so not bad. We will definitely be back!

The property is located in the mountains and offers a fantastic view. With a short walk from the hotel, we have access to the public transport. The property is managed by the owners themselves and supported by friendly staff - very supportive folks. Neat rooms and good hosts.

Our taxi had a hard time finding the hotel. Apparently the hotel’s address number (which is up on the hill) is the same number as the building on the main road and we almost got kicked out from the cab on the main road. Luckily few locals saved our life. I think if there is the hotel sign on the main road or even bigger sign at the gate would be very helpful. It’s not close to key sights but the view make it worth staying. Our room is nice also. Though the service is not up to professional hotel, but staffs are nice and very helpful. If you really miss your fur friend back home like me, two dogs here will help make you smile. They are super friendly.
