We just got back from spending a fabulous week in Rio, and I was able to compare and contrast two different hotels in two very different areas of town. When I was planning this trip, I decided to split our time between the Grand Hyatt and a different hotel in Copacabana. My family had never been to the city before, and I was concerned that spending an entire week at the Grand Hyatt might not give them the feel and flavor of the city. That feeling was amplified by reading all the reviews online, which almost invariably mention the distance of the hotel from downtown. And while I don't regret having booked a different hotel for a couple of nights in Copacabana, I can also state that we would have had no problem spending the entire week at this stellar property, despite its location in Barra. First off, and most importantly, the service is remarkable, and everyone we encountered, from the valet to the front desk to the towel attendants at the pool, were friendly and helpful. Upon checking in, the front desk recognized our Globalist status and upgraded one of our two rooms to a suite. While we were waiting for our rooms to be cleaned (we had gotten in early on a redeye), they insisted we hole up in an unoccupied room and rest, which was a much appreciated gesture after a long flight. The rooms themselves were stunning, with balconies either overlooking the lagoon and mountains or the beach itself. Every amenity at the hotel was on point, from the Kids Club that had extensive games for the littles, to the peaceful pool, to the larger than average workout room. My only (minor) complaint was that the food at the main restaurant by the pool wasn't to the same standards as the rest of the hotel. In terms of location, the ocean in front of the resort is amazing and clean (which became particularly appreciated after spending the last half of the trip at the dirty water in Copacabana), and my kids could have spent the whole week just riding the waves! There are also numerous upscale restaurants nearby and an amazing hike to Pedra do Telegrafo within a 30 minute drive. I could go on, but needless to say...good work, Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro! We will be back!

I’ve stayed at Grand Hyatt’s around the world and it’s always an experience, so I figured let’s try the one in Rio. It’s a lovely, new, modern and comfortable building and the views are stunning. And while it’s on the beach, don’t plan on actually going to the beach if it’s a nice day. The towel kiosk and attendant are in the pool area. So we asked for two towels and crossed the street to the hotel’s beach area. There must have at least 75 beautiful parasols and two lounge chairs under each. But none were available. On this sunny Sunday afternoon though, several of the lounge chairs were taken by non-hotel guests, it was clear from their different colored, faded and sad towels, not the plush, striped hotel ones. And for this entire large area of hotel beach goers there was not a single hotel employee to help or keep order. Crowded beach areas can happen, however, the hotel either offers a structure for guests to be at the beach or not. After 45-minutes of walking around the hotel’s beach area and with no luck in finding a place to sit or finding a hotel employee to speak with for help (or even just to watch our belongings while we quickly went for a swim), we gave up. On our walk back to the hotel there were other hotel guests with new towels coming.. why did the kiosk attendant not advise there is no space at the beach, thus saving people from frustration? Great hotels and great hotel experiences happen because hotels have structure, planning, processes and training. Not here. As a first-time guest at the Rio Grand Hyatt, I thought it was important to share my frustration with the hotel so that they could at least know there is an issue to be looked into. At checkout I spoke with the front desk attendant who expressed solidarity and offered to send a hotel survey, but never did. The next day I called the hotel for the same reason and was advised that someone would be in touch with me, but then was not. So I can only imagine the hotel is un-interested in feedback. The Rio Grand Hyatt is not up to par with Grand Hyatt’s global standard.

Spent 9 nights here in March 2024. We had a suit with a stunning view of both the lagoon and beach. Service was very good and rooms were clean and comfortable. The Hotel's beach area is lovely, although the sea was very rough and you do have to cross a busy road to access it. The pool area is great too! Breakfast in the hotel was great and the Japanese restaurant and main restaurant were also both excellent. We will definitely return!

Good beach hotel. Expensive breakfast buffet. Great location. Would revisit. Staff was great. Drinks and dinner reasonably priced. Entertainment with love music was a plus. Weather restricted pool and beach time.

We had a great family vacation at the Grand Hyatt. The rooms and amenities are top notch and the hotel is steps across from a beautiful private beach for guests. What really sets this establishment apart is the staff, who were amazing from the moment we arrived until the time that we left. We couldn't have asked for a better ending to our trip to Brazil. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place to stay outside of the Rio City Centre.

One of the nicest hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The Suites are spectacular, spacious and modern. It's in an isolated area so there is not much to do in the immediate area except go to the beach, or the quiosque across the street. The Sushi restaurant is one of my favorites. Beach chairs and towels are provided. The hotel is located in Barra da Tijuca, near the Reserva beach area, you'll need to take an Uber to go to the action areas, but this is a nice place to come back to and relax. On the weekends the traffic can get bad because of the narrow beach road in front, and this can add to the wait for an Uber or taxi.

We stayed at the Hyatt at the end of February and had a fantastic time! The concierge desk was the best I have ever encountered. Due to my flight being delayed more than once, they had to change my transportation from the airport a couple of times and had to reschedule our tour of Rio. They did this with ease. I was so thankful for them when I was scrambling with my airline’s changes. The bar tenders in the evening are amazing and make the best drinks! Love doing the Caipirinha Class and the Cachaça Tasting. Lastly, we stayed at the Club level and their breakfast and happy hours are incredible - all the food - could not believe it! And the staff working there are so nice and take care of you. Thank you, Hyatt, for such a great vacation.

The Grand Hyatt is a very worthwhile hotel to stay at. However it is at least 50 minutes ride by taxi, Uber to get to any of the major attractions such as Copacabana beach, Christ the Redeemer or Sugar Loaf Mountain cable car. The beach opposite the hotel is great to relax on.

Great hotel but we went to the New Year’s Eve dinner in the ballroom thinking it was going to cost us about AUD$120.00 per couple and had to pay by credit card but when I received my credit card statement we were charged AUD$1450.00 for 2 persons.
