We stayed 4 nights in a private room with shared bathroom. The hostel was very secure (as we originally had trouble find it) and the staff very friendly. Hostel included free breakfast and wifi. There are kitchen facilities and a rooftop terrace.

The hostel is very perfectly located between Ipanema and Copacabana beach. It's only a few 100m to the subway and a couple blocks from the beach.

My only word of advise is it's very discreet for the first timer. It's not sign posted so it would of been really cool if the hostel would send a welcome email on booking telling you how to find (through a couple of gates you need to be buzzed through). Other than that was a good stay.

I was very lucky to find a room at the Ipanema b&b during World Cup season. As a matter of fact, I was traveling alone to Brasil and while most people would go for a hostel, I'm so glad I did not. Truth is for just a little more money, I got so much more! I stayed with Brazilian locals, had my own double ensuite bedroom and all the above in the most secure, elegant and exciting, in my opinion, neighbourhood in Rio. Rodrigo and Felipe were both very attentive, friendly and always there to give me great insight into Brazilian culture. The only drawback was that the house was a little dirty, yet I was aware that I wasn't going to stay at a 5Star hotel so I didn't mind.
The most important thing about this place is that you are staying with a Brazilian family and you get to experience the Brazilian lifestyle as a true carioca; and this renders your experience magical and worthwile.

I recently stayed here and to be honest it is not worth the money.
The breakfast was poor, the place was dirty, the bedroom was full of old bedding and an old TV set and the bathroom was very very small.
This is my first experience of Rio and it was not a good one.

We had to leave early on our last day and there was no breakfast left for us not even a drink albeit Felipe was making his breakfast at the time but did not offer us anything.
The whole atmosphere of the place was depressing - please look elswhere.
The one redeeming feature was the location - very good!.

Had to move to another area to receive wi-fi.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel my trip to Rio. The airline I booked my flight with was gracious enough to refund at least 85% of my total cost. This was not the case with Felipe, the owner of Ipanema B&B. After receiving my email informing him that I had to cancel my trip, he emailed me back stating that he would definitely refund the money that I had sent via Paypal to reserve a room. At first, I felt relieved and glad that he would indeed refund me the full amount. However, my relief was short lived when I didn't hear back from him in a week. I finally initiated another dialogue with him to kindly ask if he had forgotten about me. He assured me he hadn't. He kept giving excuses as to why it was so difficult for him to send even a partial refund. What really led me to believe he doesn't care whatsoever about customer service, was when he emailed me stating that he would finally send the refund via Western Union. Foolishly, I fell for it. I've sent two emails since then, and I haven't heard back from him. I consider it a somewhat pricey lesson learned. Felipe probably didn't think (or maybe he doesn't care) that his poor behavior would be reflected back as bad advertising.
I've stayed in Rio before, and I chose this location because it's near an area of Ipanema that I really love. I had really high hopes initially. If he would've returned even a small portion of the money I sent to secure the room, I would've at least given him a decent write-up. In light of other customer complaints, I think it's obvious he simply doesn't care. Do yourself a favor, and stay somewhere else.

Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the

The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing
