If you want to stay in Santa Teresa (and you probably do), this is the place to be. Beautifully appointed rooms, lovely pool, attentive staff, this place is fantastic. I only had one gripe, and that was a dog barking once before noon. (I'm a tough room!) Thanks for a wonderful stay in Rio, Mama Ruisa!

Mama Ruisa is very charming and comfortable. It will be my home every time I visit Rio from now on. -The neighborhood is hip and trendy, perfect location. Walking distance from shops and restaurants. - Decor is beautiful, well designed, nice touches in the rooms, quality toiletries. We had a very quiet stay and slept very well in a comfortable... 3 years ago we stayed in MR for one night and liked it a lot so passing through Rio on our way North we came back for 2 nights. It was as great and lovely as we remembered. We got the "red" room downstairs. It is very spacious with a most comfortable bed and has a "bohemian chic" to it.... More

We stayed at Mama Ruisa for two nights, but I would’ve loved to stay longer. The staff was extremely responsive and attentive from the initial booking through departure. Everyone was offered great tips on things to do, see, and buy in the area. I absolutely adored the entire property. All of the small details make a difference. Mama Ruisa is... More

The reason to stay at Mama Ruisa is the staff. The owner, Jean Michel, assembled a top flight professional, knowledgeable, and friendly crew. Jean Michel himself is all of those things too as I had the opportunity to meet and chat with him. I stayed there 4 nights and like others writing here, wanted to stay a little longer. A... More

We stayed here on our last leg of our tour of Argentina and Brazil and we're delighted by the room, the location, the food and the service. A brilliant breakfast on the balcony overlooking the bay was a special experience as was lounging in the shady garden by the pool (a bit chilly at this time of year) You need... More

I stayed at Mama Ruisa for 4 nights and quite frankly I didn't want to leave. The area of Santa Teresa is beautiful and a bit bohemian and you get a sense of that at the hotel. The whole place is individual, charming, interesting and the staff were so friendly and helpful yet totally discreet. I felt as though I... More

Large rooms, original decor, we enjoyed our stay at Mama Ruisa where the staff were incredibly helpful suggesting local places to eat, samba bars, booking taxis etc. Felt more like the original home it had been than a hotel and was a 10 minute walk down the hill to the nearest metro. Recommended if you're looking for a centrally located... More

Mama Ruisa is a charming place to stay in Santa Tereza. It is located near the action in the neighborhood, and a short taxi ride to downtown. The house is lovely and tastefully furnished in rooms and common areas. Our room was large with high ceiling and a great view on the bay. Receptionist was very sweet and tried her... More

Our two nights here were so chilled and luxurious, namely because the staff and quality of room were brilliant. Flavia was so helpful on booking in and nothing was a hassle to any of the staff. Jean Michel runs a tight ship here and it works so well. Some people have mentioned noise...there is quite a lot of traffic goes... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
