Marta welcomed me enthusiastically when I arrived and was very helpful during my stay. I stayed in the comfortable Aquamarine Suite which has an ensuite bathroom. The guesthouse and balcony are beautiful and the views of Copacabana and Sugarloaf are stunning. Breakfast was very good. There is a small kitchen for guests to use with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Great location. Although I traveled alone, I walked the length of Copacabana and Ipanema, watched the surfers, took a 4 hour bicycle tour with Rio by Bike, visited the Botanical Gardens and went up to Sugarloaf. There is plenty of shopping nearby if you like to shop. Banks and small grocery stores are also nearby. Marta can advise you on where to exchange money; I got a good rate and there was no fee. She ordered a taxi for my trip to the airport which only cost 50 Reals. The area felt very safe during the day and early evening. Cell phones are a popular item to steal. Keep your phone and some money in your pockets. Don't walk around with expensive cameras or jewelry. It seems safe to take your camera if you take a taxi to tourist sights like Sugarloaf or Corcovado. Taxis are convenient and inexpensive. Many taxis accept credit cards. Marta speaks excellent English and German. Her housekeeper and I communicated via a translation app. In my experience, not many people in Rio speak English which is not surprising in such a large country. After all, how many people in the US speak another language?…
We've spent 5 nights in Marta's Guest House and had a wonderful time there. Marta is a great host and the guesthouse has a stunning view over Copacabana beach and is very close to Ipanema as well. To celebrate New Year's Eve there with her and her family (who are great cooks) and to see the fireworks from the beautiful terrace was an experience we'll never forget. The room (with air conditioning) was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was nice, everyday with fresh fruit. We think this is the best place in Rio to stay. You feel welcome from the very first moment and the guest house is a beautiful appartment with rich history. Also the contact with other guests was inspiring. We would absolutely recommend this place !!!
This is a guest house although there is no reception, no easy way to get help - it's just like living in someone's house. Marta was lovely although we didn't see her as she was out quite a lot arranging events in the property. The terrace is AMAZING and each evening we brought beers back to drink as the sun went down. Property is in great location. Note that the property is not cheap and yet Marta insists on payment IN CASH which can cost a lot withdrawing from ATMs. I paid by paypal but she was quick to insist that I pay all of the relevant paypal fees. With an easy way of getting help at the property and payment by credit cards accepted - this would be a perfect property.
There's no better place to experience Copacabana than Marta Rio Guesthouse!! The view is just amazing, and we loved to have breakfast or a glass of wine on the terrace. The breakfast was really delicious and varies a bit every day so that you never get bored of it. The rooms were clean and cozy and Marta, the owner of the guesthouse is such a perfectionist related to quality. Everything here is selected with love, the furniture, the decoration, the food,.... Marta thank you for an amazing time in Rio <3 We loved your place!!!
As others have stated - The location OVERLOOKING the most amazing, well known beach in Rio ...Copacabana Beach and across the bay toward Sugarloaf. Marta had advised us earlier that she would not be there on our arrival but Lucia would and we’d all catch up later than night. Lucia showed us to our room, around the guest house with the 'guest' kitchen and of course the view all with NO English - there was NO problem at all...we all had lots of laughs and of hand waving and we all ‘spoke the same language in the end’!!! Such a delight!! Marta’s enthusiasm and positive warm outlook makes you feel extremely welcome and like a long-lost friend! Nothing was ever an issue and she was always willing to go the ‘extra mile’! Marta's Guesthouse is spacious and very comfortable with a delicious breakfast, freshly squeezed juice, coffee, fruit and yummy cakes all served with a huge smile from Lucia on the terrace with THAT view!!!We felt very safe as the building has a gate with a 24h guard to operate it, a wonderful ‘old fashioned lift’, you come and go as you please, use the guest kitchen, cold water, put your wine in the fridge bought from a supermarket one street away – home away from home but BETTER!! Apart from THE VIEW and beach across the road, opposite the building entrance is a laundromat and next street (back from Marta’s) is a Bank-5 mins walk away! Fabulous restaurants all a few minutes walk from Marta's. Word of warning re: Banks in Rio. Saturday, Sunday and Monday is classified as ONE day therefore only R$200 per day per card can be withdrawn. When in Rio STAY at Marta’.... you’ll love it!…
